Last game of the regular season and last home game for Brad Buckman and Kenton Paulino.
Win and claim the Big 12 title and get the #1 seed in next week's Big 12 tournament.
Lose and tie for second in conference and get the #3 seed in Dallas.
My prediction: Texas 68, OU 59.
Game 3 PM CST on CBS.

Question
If and when the Horns win today, they will be tied with Kansas for the overall best record in the regular season. But the Horns own the head-to-head with KU, so why aren't they the outright champs?According to the Morning News, Kansas has already locked up at least a piece of the regular season championship.
I'd rather have a piece of the championship than nothing, but I still hate co-champs.

That is just what they call it
but everyone knows who gets the #1 seed is the regular season champs.Wells - March 5, 2006
Sucks doesn't it!
Same thing happened to OU last season. OU won the head-to-head but tied Kansas in the conference standings. The Sooners got the #1 seed but had to share the conference title.Congrats on the win today.

Strategy
I never heard a coach say outright that he didn't want to win the conference tourney but playing three grueling games in three days is not exactly the best way to get ready for the big dance after a long season, especially if draw the early game on the first Thursday of March Madness.Do you think Texas should sell out and try to win the Big XII or just play loose and see what happens? If the #1 seed isn't up for grabs, then I don't see what the big deal is. Nobody seems to look at Big XII basketball championships like they do for football.

i doubt it
in basketball, the national tournament is obviously paramount, but the conference tournament is still bragging rights for these kids and a banner that the program gets to point to. there's no doubt that this team and this coach want to win the conference tournament pretty badly. hopefully the friday game will be an opportunity to get some bench players plenty of minutes. the next two will a bit more hard fought, but i think adrenaline and pride will carry them through just fine, and with at least three days off until we get our 15th seed powder puff matchup, i'm not too worried about whether or not they'll be ready for the big dance.littlevisigoth - March 6, 2006
D-fense
Defense wins championships. I love seeing us play the 2-3 zone. Unless we draw someone who can shoot lights out from long-range, we're going to be a killer matchup for anyone we play in the NCAAs.Our guys play much better on offense when they have the lead and don't feel preesure to score each possesson.
I'm still on record as saying I will be shocked if the Horns don't reach the Final 4.

Co-Champs it is
I don't think there's a single KU fan who would say that KU is the better team, but nonetheless it's a shared title. I would also be shocked if Texas didn't make the Final 4... I don't think they will have another bout of complacency before they can reach the Final 4, and by then they will be focused as hell anyway. Is it just me or was the home crowd pretty quiet today? Like the fact they were only playing for a shared title was a bit of a downer.

crowd
we were in such control of the game the crowd didn't get to involved. Actually, up almost 20 with 10-11 minutes left was when it was the loudest. I think the excitement of beating OU got to us.During, one of the timeout MCs said over the PA,"Well it's about 3:30" and the student section replied,"OU still sucks." Priceless.
The 'Worse than Baylor' chant was a little obnoxious, and it was with 9 min. still left in the game.
I hate OU. Good win, and nice to see DGib performing.

Surprised you did not know.
After all, he is in the Hal of Honor...I wanted to mention this earlier when folks were questioning why Verne did narration for the UT DVDs and started ripping him.
Other AHS HoH distinguished alumni:
Don Baylor, Ben Crenshaw, Carroll Keaton-Rylander-Strayhorn, and about a hundred others who have skipped my mind. If this site goes big time, we could be inducting three more in 2008.

Hal of Honor
Oops. I meant "Hall." Obviously Verne, Don, Ben, and Carroll are not qualified to be in the "Hal of Honor." That prestigious award has only been donned on Hal Hankowitcz '45, Hal Fennington '67, and Hal G. Emerson '72.Lincoln - March 5, 2006
Another good nugget from the TV announcers
Texas has played almost 100 years of basketball. In those years before Barnes Texas basketball was in the AP top 10 a total of 3 weeks.
Since Barnes has gotten here, 33 weeks (Not sure it was 33, but it was in the 30s).
