The Austin American Statesman is reporting that Damion James is now considering the Longhorns. James is the 6'8" 225 lb forward who was released from his letter of intent to attend Oklahoma in the fall after the departure of Coach Kelvin Samson. We thought this might be a possibility a few weeks ago.
This would be a major steal for the Horns. Rick Barnes has already signed six players including McDonald's All Americans Kevin Durant and DJ Augustin. What is missing from next year's team is a dominating frontcourt freshman. Matt Hill and Dexter Pittman have a chance to contribute but by all accounts James is in a different league. With the definite departure of Lamarcus Aldridge and most likely departure of PJ Tucker, next year's team is very thin down low. The Horns do return Mike Willams, a likely starter, and Connor Atchley but no one else.
James is considered the best player in the state of Texas by Rivals.com and a top 20 player nationally. If James were to chose Texas, he would likely start at power forward in the fall.
Cross your fingers Horns fans. James is also considering Arizona and Texas A&M.
