Morning Coffee

*Congratulations to Cat Osterman and the women's US softball team, who won the World Cup of Softball by defeating Japan. The victory was especially sweet for Osterman, after her struggles in Big 12 championships in Oklahoma City, where the World Cup was held. Osterman struck out 11 batters in the 5-2 victory.

Cat Osterman: World Champ

*The Nittany Line notes that Big 10 football games were being officiated by a partially blind man.

*Kyle's back, and getting out his early Top 10, which looks a lot like our own first stab.

*And lastly, SI.com "previews" Texas. Honestly, if you're reading this site regularly, you won't learn -anything- new from it. You will, however, note that either the preview was written a long time ago or the author is simply unaware that Ramonce Taylor was arrested on felony drug possession. And they wonder why more and more fans are turning to blogs covering their favorite teams?

I'm now a big fan of Kyle
Any man with the good taste to post a pic of Mary Louise Parker has got to be a football fan worth following.

I agree with his comments on Auburn.  For their sake, I hope they are rated in the Top 5 pre-season, so we can avoid another debacle like 2004.  I could easily see a Texas - Auburn matchup for the MNC.  Maybe it's a year too soon to be rooting for Texas, but just imagine our nasty defense against their nasty defense, Chizik proteges vs. Chizik proteges, and two awesome, Heisman-worthy backs trying to outdo each other.  Tasty.

Obviously SI is more optimistic than me...
... and most of BON.

"Taylor was basically booted from spring football by Brown as a message to get serious about his academics after skipping a few classes earlier in the year. Taylor is expected back, but it's no guarantee."

The best thing about the one eyed reff
is his grades as a reff actually went up after he lost one eye.
Ramonce
I'm starting to think that Ramonce will still be playing this year.  I still haven't heard anything from Mack or any other UT officials about him.  I predict he gets off on the weed charge (I honestly don't think it was his) and is allowed to play.
but do you really want him back?
i just as soon have RT not play. he doesn't make great decisions on or off the field, and he might cut into the number of touches JC gets.
good point, but...
he is still one of those explosive players that every team needs, and he'd only get 5-10 touches per game anyway.

plus, he's a damn good kickoff return man

we have a couple explosive receivers, but they arent good after the catch. they simply are able to get behind the DBs. JC is an explosive running back, but for health purposes he should not get any more than 20 touches per game to start.

RT can do it all from any part of the field, and he's probably the only longhorn we can say that for.

he may not be the smartest person, but he has the talent that mack would love to have back.
