I am completely drained!
I am drained of all emotion right now. i do not know what to do. i cannot get drunk right now because i am home alone with my 11 month old son ( the wife does not like to be around for Horns’ games). I have not felt like this since 2005 Rose Bowl watching Vince on that 4th down run. Let’s enjoy this one for the day and get ready for another big one next saturday.
HornsRiverine - October 11, 2008
If I were OU I would contemplate jumping of the big ass ferris wheel.
they lose and worst of all for them they are probably remembering that they live in oklahoma. Man talk about a double whammy. Man I love it.

Who woulda thought we’d out-rush them by 120!?!
Zero turnovers to OU’s 2. Turnovers alwayss win this game.
I’ll easily take Chris O at RB for the rest of the year.
How bout Cody Johnson? 3 Carries, 4 yards, 3 TDs. Power at the goalline!!

GD earned his paycheck today
hookemkp - October 11, 2008
Yes he did.
the1austin - October 11, 2008
crazy
but i didnt think id ever be able to feel that way after the VY era was over. i think we all thought that the VY was an anomaly for GD. as in, the offense was essentially idiot proof with VY at the helm. but today, to come out in the spread, and pass to set up the run, I just never thought I would see that kind of initiative and ingenuity ever again in the Mack Brown era.
6th street - October 11, 2008
BTW Colt was 28-35: 80%. Sweet. nt
whills - October 11, 2008
I told my friend in the third quarter...
“I know Bradford has 4 td’s but would you ever trade Colt for him?” Hell no. Colt outplayed Bradford today even though statistically Bradford had a better game.
the1austin - October 11, 2008
Colt's good judgment on runs played a key role in fourth.
Just enough to befuddle OU’s defense. And those laser passes were beautiful to behold. Bradford threw at about 72% and some of that was throw aways due to the rush.
Colt clearly led when it was most needed. That’s what great QBs do.

vivalonghorns05 - October 11, 2008

crocodile235 - October 11, 2008
Mack Brown just outcoached Bob Stoops
I have to give credit for Greg Davis. His play calling was so aggressive at times, and he called a hell of a game after their MLB went out. We are so willing to rip up GD when we struggle and we should recognize his game plan today. It was effn’ brilliant.
How about our O-Line? What did they eat at halftime?
Muschamp. My goodness we need a Muschamp cam because I want to see his reaction to every play.
My Game MVP: JORDAN SHIPLEY. The kickoff return changed the momentum at a time when the game could have very easily gone another way.
Defensive MVP: Half RAK Half Kindle. Those two guys destroyed OU’s line. I love that Loadholt lost about 5 million dollars in this game and Orakpo jumped into the first round.
OU Sucks.
the1austin - October 11, 2008

Ogbonnaya is a tailback! I’m happy the team has its featured back now. The guy isn’t a star, but he’s been clutch. I hope he has some more tricks in his bag for Mizzou.
burntorangehorn - October 11, 2008
so what do you think about
Chiles as tailback? I like the idea but it didn’t seem to be too productive today.
SelimSivad - October 11, 2008
I agree. I think that was more for getting him in the game.
As the back-up QB, you’d like for him to not go out there stone cold. A couple of plays at least gets him bloodied a little bit and eases the nerves a little. I think it was tactical and a smart move, even if the couple of plays didn’t work out too well.
whills - October 11, 2008
i thought maybe GD was trying to set them up for a trick play later.
SelimSivad - October 11, 2008
Could have been. OU played pretty deep, esp. later in the game.
That 37-23 split on time of possession was the big factor; we wore the defense down and they had to adjust for their own tiredness and be more careful and bend-not-break.
whills - October 11, 2008
I said before the season that DeMarco Murray has been overrated since birth. The guy is NOT a great running back, and in fact, he’s not even the best back on his team. OU should be feeding it to Chris Brown, not Murray. I’m really glad they didn’t though.
burntorangehorn - October 11, 2008
Murray: 7 times for 6 yards. Brown had 7 for 29. They only had 48 altogether. nt
whills - October 11, 2008
no doubt our D-Line won the battle of the trenches
TXStampede - October 11, 2008
OU's ability to run sets up their offense. Stop that and you stop them.
That’s a four-quarter strategy but obviously it worked. They couldn’t run and thus couldn’t eat up much time and keep the Horn D on the field. Quick TDs played against them, and esp. their fast operating pace.
whills - October 11, 2008
Maybe he is good
and we are just that much better.
Wells - October 11, 2008
Drained and excited
I haven’t lost my voice like this in years…
bigfatdrunk - October 11, 2008
Early indication is that the Mizzou game will be at 7 p.m.
The locker room (from radio) sounds like bigfatdrunk: delerious, excited and within a few minutes drained and wore out. But still smiling with big shit eatin’ grins. The players are very humble about this, not too high.
Were y’all in better shape late in the game? Ulatoski: we’ve been running the no-huddle, we’re in pretty good shape.
All those games where McCoy played late in the game kept the OL in there: that paid off.
whills - October 11, 2008
Can’t be too confident, look at last years #1s and 2s falling so easily. We still have a rough schedule ahead.
MJY6087 - October 11, 2008
yes...
but we BEAT OU!!!!
This is really gonna test us, these next three weeks. And remember that as bad as they are, the aggies will come to Austin pissed. Angry players win ballgames. And we have a sad history of choking on a cupcake game late in the season.
txex92 - October 11, 2008
It was a great game
but I felt like some of the calls made by referees were RIDICULOUS….at times it was like TEXAS Vs. OU vs. Refs
6 is the number of holding penalty on RAK that should have been called…..(at least the ones I counted)
hookemkp - October 11, 2008
Okay, it’s time for UT to break the pattern of falling #1s. Step one: vs. Mizzou.
That is, if UT is #1. Either way, BEAT MIZZOU!
The problem is that Jeremy Maclin is a lot more slippery than Broyles, and Chase Coffman is a lot better (collegiate) tight end than Jermaine Gresham.
burntorangehorn - October 11, 2008
We might not be #1 coming into polls, we’ll see how LSU does
MJY6087 - October 11, 2008
F maclin
kcc28 - October 11, 2008
I guess what I’m saying is that he and Coffman are dudes who can take advantage of the freshman safeties. Earl Thomas gave up a few big plays, including the long touchdown. I think they’re going to have to stick Muckelroy on Coffman and have him slam him at the line as much as possible. I think the best way to approach Maclin is to play Brown on him as much as possible.
burntorangehorn - October 11, 2008
Texas should be #1.
No team has a more impressive victory than the one we just saw on national tv. I also think OU should stay at about #7-8.
1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. MiZZOU (Can pass Alabama with a blowout against the Pokes)
4. LSU (can move past MiZZOU and Alabama with a big win in the swamp).
the1austin - October 11, 2008
good thing we got a huge dose of the WR screens
i know that Mizz likes to run those with maclin and now we have some film as to how to limit the yards after catch.
kcc28 - October 11, 2008
Hey guys, don't forget
We’re bowl eligible!
OU sucks.
Meekrob - October 11, 2008
Random Thoughts
1. OU – 0/3 on 4th Down
2. OU – (-2 Turnover Ratio)
3. OU – 48 Rushing Yards
4. UT – McCoy 308 Yards
5. UT – Ogbonnaya 127 Yards
5. OU – SUCKS
2Bearnest - October 11, 2008
Great win, but we gave up alot of yards bc of missed tackles, etc. Maclin i believe is better than any of OUs receivers, we need to get back to work this week

Color me impressed
what an awesome effort from our team! They got out there and beat the #1 ranked team with style to spare. lots of fight in em. I heart Horns.
Missouri: i know mizzou’s got maclin and gresham, and i agree on the missed tackles, but i think our D can slow up their offense enough for the Cosby show (costarring- Jordan Shipley, Colt McCoy, and Chris Ogbonnaya) to put more points on the board.
HOOK ’EM HORNS!

From ESPN
Destiny. Yes. We can dream. However, the players go back to work Sunday. But, from the locker room, they already know that are ready to work. Great attitude.
whills - October 11, 2008
I hope we all see why UT didn’t bother recruiting Chase Daniel next Saturday. :)
burntorangehorn - October 11, 2008
It will be a dog fight. Daniel makes great decisions himself.
Even with our improving D, OU, Mizzou and Tech are powerful offenses. Other teams will be crying many tears due to them. If we can get to Bradford, we can get to Daniell, too.
It comes down to Mizzou’s D. Can they stop us?
whills - October 11, 2008
What we are seeing is that the spread can be beat
by time of possession. And that requires a balanced time-burning attack which is what we got today.
TXStampede - October 11, 2008
Exactly. Keep the D fresh and aggressive when it's in. nt
whills - October 11, 2008
BTW Neb. has tied Tech and has held the ball for a time ratio of 36-20 so far.
This strengthens that thesis.

JohnsonUT - October 11, 2008
Jordan "hoss nuts" Shipley
he really is. he is setting a good pace this season. arguably better than any other receiver Texas has ever had. God permitting, if he doesn’t get hurt, he’ll set the single season record for TD receptions if he stays healthy. only needs 5 more. and he has caught one TD pass in every game this year. he looked like a hoss out there today

Nice.
the1austin - October 11, 2008
Best part of this all......
Is Muschamp has a basis for how to beat Mizzou, Okie Light, Tech, and KU now with this game. He can go back and break down this film and improve on it for all the other crazy ass spreads. I LIKE OUR CHANCES.
I dont see Mizzou et al having anywhere near the athletes all over the field as OU. There’s just no way. They may have better schemes, but not better athletes.
Texas_Fight - October 11, 2008
screens almost killed us
we definitely gotta stop those
hookemkp - October 11, 2008
On the defensive line, no. At running back, no. in the back seven, no. But Mizzou has better athletes at receiver, QB, and TE, no question.

swingerbone - October 11, 2008
I think the secondary played pretty good today
exception of chykie giving up a 20 something yarder
OU’s offensive weapons? huh?
majority of bradford’s passes came on missed tackles and bubble screens
hookemkp - October 11, 2008
There was the blown coverav by Earl.
But he made up for it with 2 INT’s.
the1austin - October 11, 2008
May "Let's not get on the Texas bandwagon yet."
F that guy.
the1austin - October 11, 2008
BTW Muschamp talked about the bust on Gresham.
And so did Earl. They were supposed to have double coverage on him – which Earl said they did most of the game – but on that play both of them (the safety and the LB) blew the coverage. They didn’t make that mistake the rest of the game.
Earl also said they worked hard on tackling this week and are getting better. Probably hard to drop back to basics in the midst of preparing for an opponent, but definitely necessary with the younger secondary. We didn’t let the OU receivers break away for TDs and that’s a strong point. It wasn’t perfect, but obviously Muschamp preaches to stop the outright TDs and give yourself and your D a second chance.
whills - October 11, 2008
The great thing about a win like this...
…is that this team as a core unit still has one more full season together! We add a quality RB in the offseason (I think we have the #9 RB National Recruit verbally committed), another good WR, and we have another season of potential greatness to look forward to! The 2008 and 2009 seasons could line up just like the 2004 and 2005 seasons…
While the penalties and fluke plays were nerve-racking, I am glad that the calls ended up balancing out for both teams so we don’t have to listen to OU fans all season complain about bad calls (Oregon anyone?) being the reason that they didn’t make the national championship.
No time to rest on our merits as Mizzou and another Heisman candidate awaits us next week! However, I say tomorrow should be a national holiday so we can soak it in all we can for a day!

I like Texas and Texans. In Texas, everything is bigger. When Texans win they win big. And when they lose, its spectacular. They like losing? Thats not what im saying . Nobody likes losing show me a happy loser and ill show you a loser. Its a Texas attitude towards faliure Im talking about. Its how they handle life. They go BIG! For example, What did Texans do at the Alamo when they knew the suffered certain defeat? They fought hard and gave their lifes. If you look at it it was a military defeat , hell a failure if you will. So how doesTexans handle failure? They still shout remeber the ALAMO! THATS TEXAS!!!! HOOKEM

I feel intoxicated on Will Muschamp, Chris Ogbonnaya, Jordan Shipley, Colt McCoy, Sergio Kindle, and the entire Longhorn football team. We needed everyone to play their very best today and that is exactly what occurred. What a great team effort! HOOK ’EM HORNS!

Not in our house
Texas has taken a 58-40-5 lead in the series with Oklahoma and has won three of the last four.
ยท Texas has taken a 48-36-4 lead in the series with Oklahoma in games played in Dallas.
TXStampede - October 11, 2008
What a game. Congraulations to the coaches and players on a fantastic victory.
71grad - October 11, 2008
Stat from ESPN
Texas is now 14-3 vs. ranked teams since 2004.
Pretty impressive.
JohnsonUT - October 11, 2008
Other fun defensive stats...
Muck had 14 tackles
Orakpo had 2 sacks and four tackles for loss
Blake Gideon had 8 tackles
Sergio Kindle was a beast
40AS - October 11, 2008
Rak
Rak also should have earned about 15 holding flags. The guy routinely puts pressure on the qb while being held and never gets the call.
JohnsonUT - October 11, 2008
Absolutely
40AS - October 11, 2008
Wonder how much money
Rak earned from the NFL today. And how much he cost Loadholt.
edsp - October 11, 2008
Blake - "true frosh" and true unsung hero today
TXStampede - October 11, 2008
Not to mention Earl Thomas
He has come a loooooooooooooong way, 2 INTs
40AS - October 11, 2008
These guys have three more years.
Imagine what playmakers they could become by 2011.
JohnsonUT - October 11, 2008
Glorious, glorious day!
Analysis can wait. For now, just celebrate.
Caradoc - October 11, 2008
All I can say is...
BOOM MOTHERF*CKER!!! Wow… What a hell of a game.
LadyLonghorninOK - October 11, 2008
stoked.
also, drunk. and happy. Colt, OB-won, Shipley, Gideon, Rak, Kindle, Muschamp, and heck, even GD. what a freakin’ fantastic game. I know part of the momentum swung our way because I bought some “OU SUKS” beer and wore my new UT shirt. Ya know, I’m just sayin’.
Seriously, a sweet victory, and kudos to our guys and our coaches for this great win and this great football game.
Time for a nap.
And oh yeah, it’s 5:48 and OU most definitely still sucks.

mark may butt hurt
mark may still will not give any love to Texas. i am starting to think that the University of Texas somehow hurt his feelings someway. he is now butt hurt because the two band wagons he has jumped on this year ( oklahoma and usc) have gotten their butts beat. honestly what does he know about being a college football analyst, he was an offensive lineman. i guarantee he picks missouri to beat Texas next weekent.
HornsRiverine - October 11, 2008
Whoa all you Mark May Haters
I don’t like the guy by any means, but him and Lou Holtzth both agreed that Texas should be the number one team in the country after the pasting today.
In all seriousness though, I cant recall a time when I felt this damn good about a regular season game, save for the 05 OSU game. Texas took a superior opponent and shut them down. As far as talent levels go, I think Texas is a less talented team than Oklahoma, but the Horns did something that they have seldom done and that was play above their expectations. I couldnt be happier for those “untested” freshman DBs, who did more than their share of damage to the Sooners, and I’ve got nothing but appreciation for Shipley and Quan, who made their last RRS the most memorable one yet.
The sky is the limit ladies and gentlemen; I dont care who is left on the schedule, if Texas plays week in and week out like they did today, they are going to crush some people and have a definite shot at a National Championship. I just find it ironic that on the eve of the BCS rankings, the “up and coming” team from the SEC and the “almost there” team from the Big XII could go 1-2 in the BCS polls.
SuperBentley - October 11, 2008
You really hit it, Bendj
when you mention Texas playing above expectations. We here in blogger land CANNOT EVER be satisfied
-but today we were. I’m not convinced Texas’ talent level is below OU; Sooners have more quality receivers but the best two were No. 6 and No. 8. KO coverage is part of talent. No turnovers is talent and coaching. It’s also college football. The next opponent — and they’re gonna be plenty mad — is the next threat (look at gagging W. Virginia at the end of last season, USC at Corvallis, Florida against Ole Miss, Appy State and Toledo in the Big House).

i just got home from the cotton bowl
and my first UT OU game and it was special. it was amazing. it was every other generic superlative and then some.
two of my favorite things were: seeing half of the cotton bowl empty and the other half going crazy and every UT fan cheers (even though there are only about half as many UT fans as DKR it’s about 10 times as loud)

OU SUCKS!!!

It's late
and probably no one will read this, but…
I tried to keep my emotions in check for the entire
morningweek leading to this game and then during the game. Five minutes after the victory I crashed and didn’t wake up for six hours. Was is a dream? No, it was the best damn regular season football game I have ever seen and I am so proud of the Longhorns.I absolutely love Colt McCoy and Will Muschamp.
bfaut86 - October 11, 2008
Hey man, dont sweat it...
Im sure most of us did something strange after the game. I for one, threw myself fully clothed into the family pool postgame, because I didnt know what else to do. I must agree with you though, EXCELLENT GAME.
SuperBentley - October 11, 2008
agreed was so nervous the whole week.
MJY6087 - October 12, 2008
Wifey asked me where she could get one of those pom squad outfits with the chaps and such. She says she’ll wear one and have another female friend or two wear other UT stuff for me sometime soon. I’m so glad I married a good woman.
Okay, Mizzou lost, but I sure hope this doesn’t bite Texas. Daniel and Co. will be very hungry after feeling like they didn’t get to hit their stride against a team they should’ve beaten, and UT is coming off an emotional game. Keep focused and take care of business, guys! Good win!
burntorangehorn - October 12, 2008
Mizzou was just overrated
Great offense, but Muschamp’s D will be able to contain them. On the other hand, I have no idea how they’re going to stop McCoy and our rejuvenated running game that could have Fozzy back.
