I cheered against Texas in the 2005 National Championship.
Granted I was an undergrad at a small school in Minnesota and was more against the idea of Texas, as I had yet to experience the Wonder of UT, but still…I’m bad.

I am the prodigal son
I started at Baylor before transferring after my freshman year (transferring to UT=best decision I’ve ever made, hands down), and cheered against UT for all of about five minutes until Roy Williams sucked the life out of that enterprise.
Also, being raised by a Red Raider and an Aggie/Raider/former OU faculty meant I was imprinted with significant amounts of UT schadenfreude that took time (until the ’02 North Carolina game) to overcome.
Bevo forgive me, I knew not what I did.

to cheer for Texas even though I never attended, then guilty I am.
But ever since my father dressed me in orange and white on Saturdays when I was a young child — undoubtedly a sin in itself — and had me accompany the UT cheerleaders into the Cotton Bowl in a friend’s orange and white Model T, I have been a Longhorn.

UT-ATM T-day game (yes it was that long ago, well before T+1), when I was 8 or 9 years old was attended with a friend and his father. They were aggies and we sat amongst the brainwashed. In my defense I knew no better and I still rooted for the ’horns.

Like PB, to being in absolute awe of Adrian Peterson. I was at the 12-0 debacle where he officially came out (and not in a Lohan kinda way). The guy had so much speed and so much power. And he took it personal when someone recorded a solo tackle on him. That guy was amazing. I loved Benson when he was here, and he was a great college running back, but Peterson was one of the first mega recruits that I instantly knew was worth the hype.
And I confess, I kinda always wished Texas had signed Todd Blythe. The guy was a great collegiate receiver. He made Iowa State football worth watching. If that doesn’t show greatness, I don’t know what does.

Have to admit, I too have a soft spot for the guy. It’s hard, because I want to hate him, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a runningback quite like him. Other than VY, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a talented college player.

Pick'em contest
I picked USC to beat us in the Rose Bowl in my Pick’em league. I only had it as a confidence of one, but I still did it. My buddy picked Texas as a 10 and beat me by one point to win the league, so karma prevailed.

I also passed up a ticket and trip to the NC Rose Bowl b/c I had just started a new job and didn’t think I could swing the 4 or 5 days it was going to take b/c all flights near gameday were already booked.
I’ve regretted it every day since and think it can only be purged by attending the next national championship game, hopefully not another 30 something years. Help me out Colt.

for a variety of reasons, until the KU game his sophomore season, I had not seen Vince Young play an entire game, only highlights (and, particularly in the OU games, lowlights), and I believed, and even stated in public settings that Reggie McNeal was a superior quarterback…
Naturally, the KU game changed all that for me, and I finally saw what set him apart from mere mortals, the presence he had, and forever after I was a believer. But guilt stains me yet from those former times, my times of darkness, wandering in the wilderness…
that plus I kind of admired the way Oklahoma ran the wishbone in those accursed Switzer years.

I doubted you Colt McCoy. Thought b/c your favorite song is Kenney Chesney’s tractor song that you would never amount to much. Should have realized that athletic prowess and musical appreciation don’t necessarily go hand in hand. I thought your freshman year was just a fluke of having great receivers turn interceptions into touchdowns. I should have realized you were lucky, but you could improve. You did.
While I am still think Jevan would have made a hell of a Texas QB, I am proud to have Colt as the Longhorn starter. Kid can play.

OK, I was a doubter. One of the ‘wait till next year’ guys who thought that a new defense, a dearth of playmakers, and a QB with happy feet added up to an off season. But the defense has pulled together, even with frosh safeties. Cosby, Shipley, and even Oggy have delivered big plays. And McCoy has been having a Heisman year without taking unnecessary risks. I’m not someone who poses as a pessimist so as not to be disappointed. I really did not see this coming. And though there’s still a long way to go, I’m now fully onboard. Let’s win it all!

Bradford is a very talented, smart QB and I hope that he (at some point) wins the Heisman. As much as I loved the game Saturday, I did feel for Bradford as he walked off the field.
With a relative playing for A&M and the fact that I like Bradford, I assume they will revoke my lifetime Texas EX membership shortly.

That's one good QB
Even if he is a Sooner. He appears to be a good kid, too. He always seems to stay even-keeled: never too high, never too low. You need that in a quarterback. I enjoyed watching him converse with Colt after the game – it was a shame that one of them had to lose after playing a game like that.

I have not watched a single game this year
And while I am in Bolivia, I’m not using that as an excuse. Also, instead of figuring out a way to watch the OU game this year (which I had no faith we would win), I spent the weekend at Lake Titicaca like a stupid tourist (Lake Titicaca = a lot more of the latter than the former).
In addition, I walked out at halftime of the Rout 66 game.

was because one of my best friends was a die-hard aggie and when he asked me if i was an aggie or a longhorn i chose longhorn not know what the hell he was talking about. i only chose the longhorns because i wanted some competition and didnt want to be the same as everyone else.

Whenever that terrible Boomer Sooner song plays, you know, the one where the entirety of the lyrics is “Boomer Sooner” on repeat for like a full minute, I can’t help but sing along. It’s just too catchy. I know that the music sucks, that the words don’t make any sense, and that I hate OU, but still, I can’t help not singing along.

I yell (team lines up) OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (then the kick happens) UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
Mimicking the OU cheer for the same event. I’m not sure why, maybe jealous that we don’t have a well defined cheer for kickoffs besides just yelling.
To make matters worse, I only really do this when in attendance at games in DKR.

I started using different teams than Texas...
when playing NCAA Football 2007 video game last year on the PS3. I had always used Texas to whoop people but last year I was getting it handed to me online. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I will never stray again. Forgive me for my sins and may you strike down upon me any punishment you feel I deserve.

i think i have a laundry list...
i was born in oklahoma city, while this is hardly my fault, its an original sin that will be tarnished on my soul forever. you cant choose where you are born, but you can choose where you are from; I’m from Texas.
much of my family is from there and i have long since cast off the evil, vile sins of the place. i even have an uncle that graduated from choklahoma. whenever i absolutely, have got too, can not get out of it, have to travel to the forsaken land, i never ever spend any money on anything up there so as to not be one who supports the enemy and its practices.
I kind of feel for aggy, although, knowing that they wouldnt have any remorse for the Longhorns if the situation were reversed kind of helps to keep everything in perspective.
when UT was at tOSU in 2005, i couldnt watch the last two and a half minutes because i was too affraid to see the mettle of the Horns, should it have not ended in victory.

When they played USC for all the marbles in early 2006. I absolutely HATE USC and Texas, but I had to pull for the Big 12. From an OU fan, that game was amazing. I couldn’t believe that UT stopped Lendale White on 4th and 1 and I couldn’t believe how Young scored that last minute 4th quarter touchdown. I enjoyed seeing Leinart, Bush, and Carrol walking off the field as loosers. It was a good game…

I can honestly say...
I have never had a mortal sin against Texas in my entire life of 41 years. Now I have had a few venial sins against the almighty Bevo. I had come to the conclusion that I was going to have to go to atm because I did not think ahead and take a foreign language in high school. Thank Bevo, I was never swayed and never wore anything associated with aggy (even though in the 80’s it was the hip thing to do). The day (actually night) I received my acceptance letter, the thought of going to the hell of B-CS was purged from my mind.
While I’m in the confessional, I have left 3 games in the third quarter. Two in total disgust (66-3 UCLA & 2003 ou 65-13). My though, why am I here if the team did not even show up? The other game was the 92 cougar high game. After the 900th screen in the flat early in the 3rd quarter, I was so pissed I went home. Now I did listen to the game on the radio and on TV when I got home. For staying with the Horns in spirit, I was rewarded with a pick six and a win.
I have been known to pick the Horns over Country. I skipped my Saturday Army Reserve drill because I had 40 yard line seats for aggy (they were on probation in 94) even though I knew we would get smoked. I did go to drill on Sunday.

I have been in Purgatory (Oklahoma) since 2000. From 2000 – 2004, I thought it was hell (they say Purgatory is like hell except you can get out). But by the grace of Bevo, I do have season tickets and am allowed out to visit the Promised Land (when gas prices allow).
A tear did come to my eye twice in the past month, when my youngest daughter (4 yo), came to me in Wal-Mart (the main place to trade here) with a hat and said, “Daddy, can I have this?" Good thing I did not give the normal parent canned answer without looking. She had this white hat with a little pink longhorn (hey pink is better than the other options) and it said "Texas Girl”. I had a weak moment and could not refuse, considering she picked that one over the more pink ou and osu hats. She even picked one out for me (Texas one at that). The best one was last week in the 4th quarter; she was shouting “Go Texas” without me prompting. I wanted to thank the Greatness of Bevo for allowing my child to be blessed with such spirit even though she is living around such debauchery here in Oklahoma.
