oklahoma has “solved” the osu defense. they were dominated early but really adjusted by resorting to the underneath stuff. steady, efficient, they won’t be as high flying as normal but it’s enough to get 35-40+ points on the board. as well as they’ve played, okie state needs to know they need a lot of points to win this game and play accordingly. unless they get some big plays from dez on special teams or the passing game i don’t think they can get to that number
I thinkUtah to the Sugar was based on an assumption that the Fiesta would take USC
If the Fiesta’s choice for a Texas opponent is Utah or OSU, I think they would take Utah. Remember that OSU has been to the Fiesta (or the BCS Championship Game in Glendale) four of the last six years.
Don’t you think all three teams would have ballooned many of their scores if they knew that was a tiebreaker? We, for starters, would have definitely scored more against Kansas and A&M. I’m sure OU and Tech had several games where they could have ran it up. It’s a stupid point to put in right now.
It’s one thing to say “Team X” generally looked better than “Team Y” against common opponents.
But you can’t retroactively apply a specific point differential standard on a season when no coach was playing for that standard.
And on a go-forward basis, doesn’t that standard reward the team with the great offense rather than the team with the great defense just about every time?
we’re ahead of OU in the AP tomorrow, but not in the BCS.
I posted about this in another thread. DO NOT root for this scenario, since the only way it can come true would require us to root for OU in the BCS Championship game, hoping that OU’s doing so doesn’t swing AP voters their way.
would USC be an at-large in that scenario? i highly doubt the fiesta would be able to swing picking two of the hottest at-large teams to fill their bowl. somebody else is bound to snatch one of us if the other is picked, imho.
Even though Ohio State isn’t that grand this year, at least there is some benefit to playing them. Against Boise, it’s a no-win situation: If we don’t obliterate them, then we’re overrated. If they play us close or if they beat us like they did the Sooners, then everyone will talk about how the mid-major schools should go to the national title game. Blah blah blah…
We'd still have a shot at Split Championship if.....
OU plays Florida in the BCS championship. Not sure if AP voters would spring for us though if we had to play Ohio St or Boise St in the Fiesta. If Oregon State would rally to win, then we’d get USC and a win there could do the trick for a Split Championship
PB or anyone else,
Cincinnati won today and Mizzou lost. I am hoping for a close OU win and specifically Bradford doing nothing special in the win. However, what does the win mean to us. A kansas win helps us just as much as it helps OU doesnt it? Do we have a chance in the computers because to me it seems our only hope shifts to the human voters. Man I am worried. Any thoughts. Please someone comment…I dont have any finger nails or skin left…………………………..
We’re getting WAAAAY too far ahead of ourselves here talking about Fiesta opponents. The game we’re watching is close, and OSU can still win, or OU can win unimpressively enough that we’re #2 tomorroe.
USC will win another by 45 against an overmatched Big 10 team. Even USC wanted to go to the Fiesta (per the LA Times) so that they would have a chance at a split title against Texas/OU.
Only by voters suddenly jumping them over other one-loss teams
And if voters haven’t done so already, they won’t suddenly decide next week that USC is better than Texas or OU. I don’t believe in the existence of the Vast USC Media Conspiracy. If it existed, USC would be top 3 right now.
Oregon is up by 20 in the 4th quarter. USC is now the Pac 10 champ. Get ready to start hearing about how USC belongs in the MNC game.
Even with an Ok State victory, this hurts our shot of making it to the MNC game.
Let’s say Mizzou beats Tech: All the country will say you can’t send Texas to the MNC game since they didn’t even win their own conference. USC must go over Texas. I bet the BCS voters vote USC ahead of us in this scenario.
I know I am getting way ahead of myself but the Oregon State loss really hurts us.
it doesn’t really matter how the humans vote because the computers should favor OU just enough to bump OU over us. The only thing that helps us is OSU winning.
You don’t go for two unless you know you have to. Now, instead of being a field goal away from taking the lead, a field goal still leaves them down by 1.
into the endzone against us that the second receiver scooped barely off the ground? I think Swoops sold his soul to Switzer (beezlebub) this year for another title shot.
did well but 25-7 in the 2nd half of OU/UT tells a more complete tale of our 2nd half dominance over OU, not just 45-35, but 25-7 in the 2nd half when the game was on the line
with the defense throwing the kitchen sink at them and legitimately stopping them at least two of those drives without lucky bounces. that defense needs to keep their heads up
Yep. But what's the alternative? An OU blowout would have been a much more convincing argument for the Sooners. We already knew OSU was a very good team.
i have know idea how to feel about this game as related to bcs now. if osu would have kicked the extra point that ou ran back for a 2 points it’s a tied game.
I really hope you're right but I don't think you are.
I mean, the pollsters were just trying to find a reason to vote OU ahead of us 4 weeks ago. When we lost to TTU, we fell behind OU in both human polls. This was before OU beat TTU and just 3 weeks after we beat OU head to head.
I think the pollsters are still trying to justify keeping OU ahead of us and I believe this game will do us in.
Yeah Gundy needs to start onside kicking the ball next opportunity whats he worried about Oklahoma recovering and scoring a td they been scoring all night
are we going to know the BCS results any earlier if OU wins?
I mean I am a student graduating on the 6th and would like to know if my family is going to have to do a graduation party in a two foot radius of a TV or not
It’s amazing that after the Red River Shootout, the Media is in love with Texas. And then we lose on one of the greatest plays in the history of football and now everyone forgets about us and thinks that Oklahoma won the Shootout and should just be crowned the National Champion! I dont’ get it…
When they mention Oklahoma’s vaunted offense, they always say, “Since the loss to Texas…” But they say it so cavalier as if that loss shouldn’t count against the Sooners.
silky51 ARE YOU RETARDED. THIS IS THE BEST THING to happen to us. #2 does not get 41 points scored on them. nor touchdowns off kickoffs, nor held at the 3 yard line. i
Mizzou loss was a huge hit to Texas in the computer rankings, so OU will be slightly ahead of us in computer polls more than likely. Which means when the human polls come out, we need to probably be slightly ahead in the total vote count between the two human polls…………..or we r toast.
in the conference game and not these bastards. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Texas-Florida Championship game either. Good luck tomorrow with the rankings and whatnot.
It seems that Colt has reemerges as the front runner...
The head to head win might be enough for him to beat OU even if OU advances. It will be a very close vote. No real consensus there and Colt’s running might be the deciding factor (10 td’s).
but if we had not made all those other mistakes, Tech still could have won by countering what we were doing, though our chances of a win would have gone up. Had Gideon’s mistake not been made we definitely would have won as long as we could make 1 safe snap.
Isn’t that what we all wanted? A close game that OU wins at the end?
Well, this one was in doubt up until 8 minutes in the fourth and OSU scored 41 points. How is this not what we wanted? It wasn’t as beautiful as Tech sucking it up against Baylor, but this was a lot closer to what we needed than not. A 65-21 thrashing would have cemented a spot for OU. We can still be optimistic.
but you’d think they’d be particularly sophisticated in football compared to the average fan. I expect them to appreciate the nuance of the situation. It’s rare that an outside populace can decide a conference titlist, a one-year deal if Mack has anything to do with it.
But, if OU jumps us, make no mistake about it, that play will go down in UT"s History of Infamy right next to Phillip Geiggar’s roughing the kicker penalty against Colorado that is credited with costing Texas a MNC appearance in 2001 against Miami.
Gideon wasn’t in on the winning play. It’s not like Texas didn’t have opportunities to win the game on either side of the ball. It’s the team that took the hit and playing youth is a risk this team took: you don’t blame the players, you blame the coach, for they were willing to take the risk because this team needed the rewards. Gideon’s best play has served us well and doing this undercuts that respect for his overall play.
Yeah, no doubt, I remember a certain QB (no names mentioned, *Chris Simms*) who threw
4 picks in the first half and the 3rd pick caused our star RB (Cedric Benson) to get a stinger when he was forced the tackle the Colorado player that made the interception that held Benson out of our bowl game.
Applewhite almost brought us back but it was too little too late.
pure class my ass. he whored him self out a lot last week. even took a shot at florida. he’s not saying anything anymore because the voters had you guys up after he whored himself out.
look, i’m all for politicking if it’s what it takes. every coach has been doing it. but saying that stoops was somehow “above it all” when he had all his starters in with a minute left in the game and a 20 point lead, following his press conference last week, is just silly.
I don’t think OU is going to jump us by several BCS Points here, this is going to be very close. Let’s not forget that Texas had the national stage on Thanksgiving, they could have changed many minds that night.
HOW DOES STOOPS SHOW CLASS WHEN HE DOESNT EVEN PULL IS STAR FUDGE PACKING QB BRADFORD WHEN THEY HAD A 10 POINT LEAD IN THE END OF THE 4TH QTR THEY DIDNT EVEN KNEEL DOWN ON THE BALL MAN I HOPE THIS BITES THEM ALL IN THE DICK
lets allow voters to ignore the entire first 9 weeks of the season and take all of their votes into account considering only the last 2 weeks. thats fair, right?
oh yeah, they should also nevever take into account any big 12 defenses ever showing up and just take qb passing yards into account. its the only rational way to tally this thing up.
Since when does having an awesome offense but no defense get you votes, We will see if they just want a million points on the board to increase ratings
Bradford deserves no shot at the Heisman. When you are surrounded by NFL talent, you are not the MVP. Bradford just throws shit up and hopes his guys get to it (as evidenced by the MANY tipped balls). The only MVP in the Heisman race is Colt McCoy.
OU SUCKS AT REPRESENTING THE BIG 12 ,,,, THEY JUST WANNA LOSE IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN !!!!! SO AT LEAST IT WONT LOOK AS BAD AS LOSING TO UTAH, (NOTICE HOW THEY HAVE DONE BOTH) SUCK IT SOONERS ,, YOU CAN BUY ALL THE MEDIA YOU WANT BUT YOU CANT BUY CLASS
i have absolutely no confidence in the voters. does that make me a horribly pessimistic person?
coming down to the wire, i just can’t see these voters actually remembering the month of October. You know, where Texas played top #11 teams four weeks in a row? Or the neutral field win, or the dropped INT by one of our true freshman safeties, or the fact that Mack Brown actually has some class and could’ve run up the score in almost every game this season…
He’s been on OU’s jock for weeks now. Every time Mark May tries to put him in his place, he slobbers his way out of the discussion with babbling mumble jumble.
mack takes the high road every time, we beat ou head-to-head and we now face the very real possibility of watching two teams we beat play for the conference title next week.
Do we just dismiss the Tech game then? After all, everyone will agree that Texas is a VERY different team than what we showed that night…
Furthermore, it’s not like OU played awful that game. Bradford tossed five touchdowns, for crying out loud. But we pummeled their run game and we carved up their weak defense and weak special teams.
They just had the best season in their history, yes in their history, and they are going to the CoTTon bowl When it comes down to it, Mack has only gotten UT to 2 BCS bowls, so at least we are guaranteed to accomplish getting to a 3rd.
Not going to happen. The Big 12 and SEC champion will settle it on the field.
Maybe, maybe if USC had a better offense (and not struggled with some crappy Pac 10 teams) there would have been enough media pressure to create another MNC game in the Fiesta (especially if Texas got in). I think USC going to the Rose Bowl kills any chance of a split national title. Texas beating Utah, or OU beating Utah, or USC beating Penn State won’t do it.
I’d vote for Texas because – I want to keep my lame system intact. So I can be a self-important “BCS” voter. Head to head is a hell of an argument. It’s the playoff argument. If that’s not honored, I may be at risk of losing my status as a “BCS” voter, which I like. I like very much my current self-importance, and these Longhorns could make us look like idiots if we don’t put them through, just when we have a new President dogging my system, my Harris vote, my BCS self importance vote.
Harrell injured two fingers on his left hand in the second quarter and is scheduled for surgery Sunday. The injury will not keep him from playing next week, if the Red Raiders have a game.
seriously i don’t know what it is but when he’s on i can’t eat a thing. is all the spitting and lisping an old thing or did the old guy just lose too much teeth and refuses to wear dentures? i don’t get it. can’t understand half the things he says and his constant lunatic raving for nd is embarrassing. only lou holtz could possibly make mark mayes look non-partisan by comparison. (and yes i am referring to mark mayes’ constant sniffing at usc’s jock strap. at least until they blew it against osu.)
i heard ‘em go quiet, and then start booing. lol. personally i think if two public faces are saying it, it echos among the football world and gives legitimacy to texas’ claim of being better than OU and deserving to be ranked up above OU.
I hope Florida beats the living hell out of OU. I want to see Bradford get drilled into the field. Literally. Drilled. They’ll have to take a timeout to grab some shovels and dig his ugly ass out. Then a gator player walks up to him, reaches down to help him up and at the last second pulls his hand back and then laughs as he points to the scoreboard. 52-3 with three more minutes left in the first half. The only thing better than beating OU in Dallas is seeing them utterly humiliated in a BCS bowl.
Yes, Stoops and friends, you may end up stealing something away that you did not earn and you can laugh all the way to your bowl in January but when you get beaten down by Florida as the OUverrated dogs you are the nation will be laughing but nobody louder than BURNT ORANGE NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s 11:51 MT and OU still fucking sucks. Ok there’s my f bomb for the thread.
Random contrarian thoughts on a sleepless night....
1. Holtz and May are both selling something they don’t believe because producers tell them to. May is trying to make up for 2005 when he spent a month declaring USC the greatest ever – so ESPN lets him take the “pro Texas” view. That means Holtz takes the other side….they are entertainers, not journalists. (BTW, Mark, how many Heisman winners does it take to beat Vince Young?)
2. USC may be the team really getting screwed this year (I hate to say it). But, I’ve seen them a few times this year and that defense is unreal. Yes, they lost a game to a team with four losses – but they lost on the road at night and nearly won to a team that will end up tied with them for first in the conference. Sounds a little familiar. Not that I’m losing sleep over their bad luck…..
3. How about credit for non-conference scheduling? Three years ago when we set this schedule (after Utah backed out thinking they didn’t need 2 for 1 anymore) would you have taken Texas’ non-con with UTEP on the rise (and on the road) and Arkansas or OU’s with Cincy and TCU? We scheduled more difficult, our partners didn’t live up to the agreement!
final td with 25 secs to go. stay classy, bob stoops!
no sense in kneeling for ol bob stoops. he likes to go all-out til the final seconds. ‘course, there’s being a douche bag (bob) and being a class act (not bob). stay classy up there in norman, bob! you da man! (douche bag.) i would love it if people made a big deal about that last td in the news tomorrow and some voters decided to kick him in the balls for it, but i doubt it. oh well.
25 seconds left, first down, on the 20-something. how many timeouts did osu have, infinity? give me a break. he was running up the score so he could go to the camera and say “see? we beat osu by 20!” which he immediately did. in that situation, a classy coach goes into the v formation.
i seem to have read somewhere that it’s DOABLE for ut to stay ahead of ou if mack, who has a vote in the coach’s poll, to leave ou off the ballot completely. i mean, totally shaft them. and if he could get one or two other coaches with votes to do likewise. it would be unethical of course, but hey, this is ou we’re talking about. screw’em. am i wrong here?
I don’t think Mack does it. If OU jumps us do you think the media questions it? No, they’ll figure “OU beat Ok State on the road by 20, Texas beat them at home by 4 so the voters went with OU despite the head to head.” But if Texas stays ahead of OU it will most likely end with blaming Mack for it even if the voters wake up and think “You know this is a really good OU offense and OSU couldn’t stop them. Actually the only team that could was Texas. I’ll change my vote and go with UT instead.”
It comes down to Mack’s character. He will politic as much as he can but at the end of the day he always says the same thing “We will go wherever they send us.” Mack Brown is no Bob Stoops and I thank God for that.
But after the Kansas game, OU figured it out, and it’s been OU 2.0
NOT the same team
At this point, I wouldn’t put it past Mack to do such a thing, since he’s already lost the respect of most people for his politicking. Bob answered a question after the Tech game, and refused to go on about it. Let the chips fall where they may. How Mack has gone onto every show possible and whored himself out to beg and plead for votes instead of just letting the teams’ play be the determinant has been pretty despicable.
Before Thursday, I’d have rooted for Mack and UT if they were to get the nod ahead of OU. And, not because of the way the TEAM played, but because of the fans and Mack’s attitude, no way that happens now….
Oh no how will we ever live if you don't cheer for our team?
“Wow. This BCS bowl game is very enjoyable. Texas is kicking ass but you know what? It’s missing something. I’m just not enjoying the game quite as much as I would if some sooner that has nothing better to do but troll BON could be cheering the horns on. That’s it. I can’t watch this game anymore. It’s too painful.”
the big question in my mind with that pitiful 2.0 argument is simply
Why did your beloved Sooners WAIT till after Texas polished them into the ground to show up 2.0? Texas doesn’t need motivation, BlowU does. We deserve it because we beat you simply stated.
around these facts and how they are being totally disregarded… 1) OU was #1 in the nation on oct. 11th, lost by 10 and at that time the voters thought so much of UT that we jumped from 5th to 1st, and OU only dropped to #4. Since then we’ve held all mutual oppenents to less points than OU, excluding TTU. 2) I think if we had a week off before TTU it would have been a different story. Instead, our schedule was rearranged by a hurricane, and we played 4 top 11 teams in consecutive weeks. 3) This year marked the first time the underdog won the RRS when both teams were ranked, meaning, we were supposed to lose and came out on top. For all of Stoop’s glory, he’s never upset Mack…also, Our SOS got a boost with Rice & Arkansas winning while UF’s biggest wins this year are to a 4 loss LSU team and a 3 loss Georgia squad. They both lost this weekend, does that also favor OU?
our SOS took a hit when CU and Mizzou couldn’t finish the deal against their opponents. Also, FAU helped us out with a big win while UTEP got destroyed. All in all, the weekend was a wash in terms of hoping for massive computer help.
If you want to look at their computer help, they really had a rough weekend. Miami, Vandy, UGA, LSU, South Carolina, all lost. Had a couple teams on their schedule win, but it seems like they took some hits overall.
so, i know this is pretty much a foregone conclusion...
…since Florida is so close to us in the BCS, but are they guaranteed to jump us if they beat Alabama? The computers don’t love Florida. I just wonder if somehow the computers held on and we were still somehow in the top 2.
Fiesta
If OU wins out and with Oregon State choking who would we most likely get assuming Fiesta takes Texas?
seth78 - November 29, 2008
I'd say Utah
bamfor - November 29, 2008
Are you assuming the Sugar would grab Ohio State?
Not sure who’s picking in what order here.
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
i think the two national title bowls pick first.
meaning, sugar picks first after losing AL/FL if ranked BCS #1, fiesta would get 2nd choice after losing OU/TX/TT.
after that, i don’t know the order.
cwofford - November 29, 2008
After replacement picks
Fiesta, then Sugar, then Orange.
I would assume that Ohio State would be more desireable than Utah.

Top Jimmy - November 29, 2008
did anybody watch the abc halftime show?
I could have sworn that Lee Corso said OU has to do ALOT more to get the vote over Texas..
jacobb23 - November 29, 2008
yeah he did. he said they basically need a blowout
thatgooner - November 29, 2008
Well if Corso said so..
I will sleep better tonight…. Dammit, I hate the BCS.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
That's only in his opinion
Unfortunately, while Herbie agrees, he’s also cynical enough to think that the voters will still put OU ahead.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
and with Mizzou losing
it doesn’t really matter how the humans vote because the computers should favor OU just enough to bump OU over us. The only thing that helps us is OSU winning.
seth78 - November 29, 2008
USC is a joke
They lost to an unranked team. End of discussion.
milevin - November 29, 2008
So did Florida, but they are one win away.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
But both OSU and Ole Miss have proven themselves to be better than what we thought at the time of their upsets
It’s not like either team lost to a team that would up 4-8.
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
No worries with USC
call me crazy but everything I’ve seen is USC is Rose Bowl bound with a OSU loss. I don’t think Texas has anything to worry about from USC>
TexasGarcia36 - November 29, 2008
USC, at least, is sufficiently behind in the computers
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
I hope you are right
milevin - November 29, 2008
I would tend to agree...
They have too much to climb to pass Texas, but never, ever, underestimate the power of the Media’s love obsession with USC.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
If the media were truly obsessed with USC...
…they wouldn’t be ranked behind three other one-loss teams.
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
Agreed.
The Oregon State loss will hurt them a bit in the computers. I just don’t see the voters putting them high enough to overcome the computers.
drycreek - November 29, 2008

crackaTX - November 29, 2008
houston and utep a couple of weeks ago
abcdmetrius - November 29, 2008
Disagree
You don’t go for two unless you know you have to. Now, instead of being a field goal away from taking the lead, a field goal still leaves them down by 1.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
I realize that's the common sense approach. I just think this was the right call in this game.
crackaTX - November 29, 2008
Going for 2
told either your offense you didn’t think they could score again or your defense you didn’t think they could stop them. Never go for 2 until you MUST.

Kirk made a point but didn't realize it.
It has been about lucky plays for OU. This win is about fluke plays.
Musburger, on the other hand, believes Stoops drew up those plays that way. Arse.

Okie State has run all over OU, will voters really want to see OU's defense against Florida's rushing powers?
HornPossessed - November 29, 2008
maybe
….the high scoring game makes voters see that OU has no defense. Maybe we’re seen as more balanced? Might be grasping at straws….
junglerules - November 29, 2008
we are; OU impresses the voters with their flashy offense but forget that defense also helps win games

thatgooner - November 29, 2008
How in the world...
…is Oregon State or Oregon going to hang with Okie State in the Holiday Bowl?
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
Now OSU needs
the big turnover.
tdwalsh - November 29, 2008

Staying close. Lot of points.
May be ugly enough?
Brian.HalcYoN - November 29, 2008
I don't think it's "ugly" . . .
…but it’s definitely close enough.
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
all in know is i cannot wait to see cincy in a bcs game........sarcasm off.
Mulliganville - November 29, 2008
Cincy AND Boston College in th same bowl! Now THAT'S Must-See TV!

BossierTex - November 29, 2008
OU keeps proving
UT has a superior defense
shadyrock - November 29, 2008
if someone ever mentions that OU's defense has gotten better imma punch that person in the balls
hookemkp - November 29, 2008
Only problem with this game being so close is
That both teams look pretty good which means OSU must win.
I think if OU wins this, the pollsters will give OU credit for beating a VERY GOOD OSU team on the road.
Top Jimmy - November 29, 2008
Disagree.
crackaTX - November 29, 2008
We'll surely find out tomorrow, won't we?
Top Jimmy - November 29, 2008
Yep. But what's the alternative? An OU blowout would have been a much more convincing argument for the Sooners. We already knew OSU was a very good team.
crackaTX - November 29, 2008
I agree with you but that's not what I was saying.
I was saying we wanted OU to win “ugly” in an “ugly game.”
Unfortunately, this game isn’t as ugly as we need it to be.
I’m very afraid OU’s argument will be, “look we won against a very GOOD OSU team at their home and Texas struggled against them at home.”
Top Jimmy - November 29, 2008
bcs
i have know idea how to feel about this game as related to bcs now. if osu would have kicked the extra point that ou ran back for a 2 points it’s a tied game.

That and all the ridiculous plays and 3rd down conversions aren't helping...
OSU’s D has got to step up or this thing is over.
utlonghorn24 - November 29, 2008
That's right, they've converted on EVERY key 3rd down.
Top Jimmy - November 29, 2008

bcs
i think this game score does us in
burntorange81 - November 29, 2008
Does OSU even know how to play defense
Does Gundy understand that you have to play MAN defense?
Since he is a MAN then maybe his defense needs to grow a pair and play MAN.
milevin - November 29, 2008
bcs
will not look at ou’s total lack of defense
burntorange81 - November 29, 2008
i'm more confident in the voters now....OU is showing zero D.
Also, maybe Florida jumps OU in some polls and that helps bring us closer? You never know….won’t give up until I see the BCS standings tomorrow

Actually, it's a good question
At the beginning of the night, I wanted an OSU win.
Now I think OU has played itself out of KC…
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
I really hope you're right but I don't think you are.
I mean, the pollsters were just trying to find a reason to vote OU ahead of us 4 weeks ago. When we lost to TTU, we fell behind OU in both human polls. This was before OU beat TTU and just 3 weeks after we beat OU head to head.
I think the pollsters are still trying to justify keeping OU ahead of us and I believe this game will do us in.

are we going to know the BCS results any earlier if OU wins?
I mean I am a student graduating on the 6th and would like to know if my family is going to have to do a graduation party in a two foot radius of a TV or not

Media/Broadcaster Thought Processes
It’s amazing that after the Red River Shootout, the Media is in love with Texas. And then we lose on one of the greatest plays in the history of football and now everyone forgets about us and thinks that Oklahoma won the Shootout and should just be crowned the National Champion! I dont’ get it…

o ye, of little faith
longhornricky - November 29, 2008
can we credit osu d with an assist tonight?
robshady - November 29, 2008
No kidding
OU caught some lucky breaks, but it’s inexcusable to give up that many fourth down conversions. A stop on any of those would have changed the game.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
this delay calling at the line is well, a little gay
Mulliganville - November 29, 2008
i don't think so
i’d have loved to see colt take a little more time off the play clock when we were driving against tech

Really, this has been a WORST case scenario with the results all day today. Texas in big trouble tommorrow
silky51 - November 29, 2008
Huh?
We got the strong performance from OSU. Aside from a Baylor win, that was #1 on my list.
Peter Bean - November 29, 2008
"Since the loss the Texas..."
When they mention Oklahoma’s vaunted offense, they always say, “Since the loss to Texas…” But they say it so cavalier as if that loss shouldn’t count against the Sooners.

Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008

Super Saiyan Patrick - November 29, 2008

Made for a more educated electorate. We’ll have an idea once the polls come out early in the morning.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
Yes
But a significant amount of voters would have to get their heads out of their rear ends.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008

tdwalsh - November 29, 2008
Mizzou loss was a huge hit to Texas in the computer rankings, so OU will be slightly ahead of us in computer polls more than likely. Which means when the human polls come out, we need to probably be slightly ahead in the total vote count between the two human polls…………..or we r toast.

Will the BCS rankings also determine the Heisman?
OU goes to MNC —> Bradford wins?
UT goes to MNC —> McCoy wins?
goingforthecorner - November 29, 2008
It seems that Colt has reemerges as the front runner...
The head to head win might be enough for him to beat OU even if OU advances. It will be a very close vote. No real consensus there and Colt’s running might be the deciding factor (10 td’s).
the1austin - November 29, 2008
I think it'll be the opposite,
the screwed team will get the consolation heisman

Don’t mention Gideon. It’ll just give me a headache.
To be fair, I blame the game on GD in the first half more, though. And our receivers who weren’t catching jack.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
Yeah,
but if we had not made all those other mistakes, Tech still could have won by countering what we were doing, though our chances of a win would have gone up. Had Gideon’s mistake not been made we definitely would have won as long as we could make 1 safe snap.

NO F-ING WAY...
4th generation fan - November 29, 2008

Mulliganville - November 29, 2008
why wouldn’t they run it up
silky51 - November 29, 2008
I hate BOB
girlslikefootball2 - November 29, 2008
We wanted a close game, right?
Isn’t that what we all wanted? A close game that OU wins at the end?
Well, this one was in doubt up until 8 minutes in the fourth and OSU scored 41 points. How is this not what we wanted? It wasn’t as beautiful as Tech sucking it up against Baylor, but this was a lot closer to what we needed than not. A 65-21 thrashing would have cemented a spot for OU. We can still be optimistic.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
How many voters will see that?
Or how many will woodenly look at the final score?
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
There's only a given number of voters out there
but you’d think they’d be particularly sophisticated in football compared to the average fan. I expect them to appreciate the nuance of the situation. It’s rare that an outside populace can decide a conference titlist, a one-year deal if Mack has anything to do with it.
whills - November 29, 2008
Final score doesn't
look close now, it’s 11:45 in the east, and saturday night everywhere, far fewer voters than you think were watching.
tdwalsh - November 29, 2008
Oh gosh
Please, voters. Punish Stoops for this.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
wow
stoops is a douche..
nyclonghorngal - November 29, 2008

Classless when you can take a knee.
Style points versus unsportsman like. Too bad the system rewards this. It makes me sick to my stomach. I wish OSU would have won.

Hook'em13 - November 29, 2008
i hope stoops gets stabbed in the nuts by bevo.
Hook'em13 - November 29, 2008
Um, are the fans saying "F you?"
And ABC does not notice?
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008
No they are saying OU
girlslikefootball2 - November 29, 2008
Yeah,
that’s the chant we try to sneak “sucks” in real quick between their ous.
tdwalsh - November 29, 2008
Effn Gideon. I love the kid.
But, if OU jumps us, make no mistake about it, that play will go down in UT"s History of Infamy right next to Phillip Geiggar’s roughing the kicker penalty against Colorado that is credited with costing Texas a MNC appearance in 2001 against Miami.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
Dude get offf the kid.
girlslikefootball2 - November 29, 2008
No doubt.
Brian.HalcYoN - November 29, 2008
YOu may
want to rephrase that.
tdwalsh - November 29, 2008
He's a great player, and has exceeded all expectations...
I am simply pointing out that, unfairly, he will be blamed by many for costing Texas a Big 12 Championship and MNC appearance.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
You're putting it in the Buckner position.
Gideon’s best play has served us well and doing this undercuts that respect for his overall play.
whills - November 29, 2008
It's tough, I agree with both of you, there's no easy way
Texas Sized BS - November 29, 2008
Um, of all the players to blame against CU (cough, cough), you pick GEIGGAR?!?
Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
I know Simmshad a greater role in the meltdown
But Geiggar’s roughing penalty killed Major’s Rally. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
Yeah, no doubt, I remember a certain QB (no names mentioned, *Chris Simms*) who threw
4 picks in the first half and the 3rd pick caused our star RB (Cedric Benson) to get a stinger when he was forced the tackle the Colorado player that made the interception that held Benson out of our bowl game.
Applewhite almost brought us back but it was too little too late.
Top Jimmy - November 29, 2008

Super Saiyan Patrick - November 29, 2008

goingforthecorner - November 29, 2008
We're gonna play Boise or Ohio State.
Which, I dare say, sucks WORSE than playing Utah.
utlonghorn24 - November 29, 2008

Really, we can’t pull an OU on Boise State.

It’s 10:52 and……
TEXAS_FIGHT07 - November 29, 2008
Yes, OU still sucks.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
Unfortunately
Between the Big Four in the Big 12 South (UT, OU, Tech, OSU)…
Only one team has beaten the other team IN THEIR HOME FIELD.
OU 61 @ OSU 41
My friends, this is not looking good. Go Mizzou…
goingforthecorner - November 29, 2008
But OSU didn't beat any of the other three.
Really, all they have done this season is beat Missouri (whose only accomplishment has been beating 5 win Illinois).

Minion coaches
Just a reminder, Stoops has the following evil spawn voting for him in the coaches poll, we’re screwed:
•Mike Leach, Texas Tech head coach
Advertisement
Stoops’ first offensive coordinator now has Texas Tech in the top 15 and competing for a league title
•Mark Mangino, Kansas head coach
Replaced Leach, now the Big 12’s returning coach of the year after leading Jayhawks to Orange Bowl
•Mike Stoops, Arizona head coach
Took over at Arizona in 2004 after coordinating dominant defenses in Norman
•Chuck Long, San Diego State head coach
Largely responsible for Jason White’s Heisman Trophy winning career
•Kevin Sumlin, Houston head coach
Becomes first black head coach in major Texas college football history
•Bo Pelini, Nebraska head coach
Boyhood pal of Stoops charged with resurrecting Husker program
tdwalsh - November 29, 2008

they are LOVING this.

they beat them by 20 in stillwater.

crackaTX - November 29, 2008
Boise State. West Virginia.
OU might get there, but I have no confidence that they can play with Florida. The best team in the league would be in Arizona.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
But Texas still beat OU.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
are you still mad about getting your ass kicked in the RRS?
Hook'em13 - November 29, 2008
pure class my ass. he whored him self out a lot last week. even took a shot at florida. he’s not saying anything anymore because the voters had you guys up after he whored himself out.
look, i’m all for politicking if it’s what it takes. every coach has been doing it. but saying that stoops was somehow “above it all” when he had all his starters in with a minute left in the game and a 20 point lead, following his press conference last week, is just silly.
APinAustin - November 29, 2008
Walloped?
You guys barely held on and got lit up by this team. The final score is deceptive since you ran in a meaningless touchdown.
Idiot Sooner.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008

zissou - November 29, 2008
Did you even watch the UT-OSU game???
I suspect not….
28-24, OSU throwing into the endzone with a chance to beat Texas…. Was THAT a convincing win? Over a real team?
TexasSooner - November 29, 2008
I was at that game
Did I even claim that we killed them? Nope. But we played solid defense. Unlike you fools tonight.
Leave it to a Sooner to bring in statements that aren’t even said to cover his stupidity.
TheElusiveShadow - November 29, 2008

I don’t think OU is going to jump us by several BCS Points here, this is going to be very close. Let’s not forget that Texas had the national stage on Thanksgiving, they could have changed many minds that night.
the1austin - November 29, 2008
And remember that Florida...
…looked much more impressive than OU today. They HAVE to steal some votes from OU.

the1austin - November 29, 2008

Hopkins Horn - November 29, 2008
Just like Mack did against A&M..............
No wait….. that was Chiles running the offense and scoring while UT was 33 points up, yeah…. pure class…. Of COURSE Mack would take a knee…..

TexasSooner - November 30, 2008
texaslonghornfan - November 29, 2008
here's an idea
lets allow voters to ignore the entire first 9 weeks of the season and take all of their votes into account considering only the last 2 weeks. thats fair, right?
oh yeah, they should also nevever take into account any big 12 defenses ever showing up and just take qb passing yards into account. its the only rational way to tally this thing up.

i have absolutely no confidence in the voters. does that make me a horribly pessimistic person?
coming down to the wire, i just can’t see these voters actually remembering the month of October. You know, where Texas played top #11 teams four weeks in a row? Or the neutral field win, or the dropped INT by one of our true freshman safeties, or the fact that Mack Brown actually has some class and could’ve run up the score in almost every game this season…
waiting for the polls is KILLING me.

Guess what it’s been decided on the field already.
He says they are different teams today, comapred to then.
Yes, and they will be different next week, and the week after, but we don’t replay every game every week.
45-35 stands above all.
drycreek - November 29, 2008
Using his logic
Do we just dismiss the Tech game then? After all, everyone will agree that Texas is a VERY different team than what we showed that night…
Furthermore, it’s not like OU played awful that game. Bradford tossed five touchdowns, for crying out loud. But we pummeled their run game and we carved up their weak defense and weak special teams.

JBHOOKEM22 - November 29, 2008
Not going to happen. The Big 12 and SEC champion will settle it on the field.
Maybe, maybe if USC had a better offense (and not struggled with some crappy Pac 10 teams) there would have been enough media pressure to create another MNC game in the Fiesta (especially if Texas got in). I think USC going to the Rose Bowl kills any chance of a split national title. Texas beating Utah, or OU beating Utah, or USC beating Penn State won’t do it.

If I was a Harris voter
I’d vote for Texas because – I want to keep my lame system intact. So I can be a self-important “BCS” voter. Head to head is a hell of an argument. It’s the playoff argument. If that’s not honored, I may be at risk of losing my status as a “BCS” voter, which I like. I like very much my current self-importance, and these Longhorns could make us look like idiots if we don’t put them through, just when we have a new President dogging my system, my Harris vote, my BCS self importance vote.

(1) Do any of the coaches vote for Mack over “Big Game Bob” because Mack respects the game and doesn’t run the score up on hapless teams?
(2) Do the voters take into consideration “Big Game Bob’s” pathetic record in BCS games, epsecially when compared to Mack?

If Florida and OU go to the MNC

LFAKevin - November 30, 2008
final td with 25 secs to go. stay classy, bob stoops!
no sense in kneeling for ol bob stoops. he likes to go all-out til the final seconds. ‘course, there’s being a douche bag (bob) and being a class act (not bob). stay classy up there in norman, bob! you da man! (douche bag.) i would love it if people made a big deal about that last td in the news tomorrow and some voters decided to kick him in the balls for it, but i doubt it. oh well.
iamjackburton - November 30, 2008
Kick him in the balls
just for the hell of it. A swift kick by Mack wearing some steel-toed boots. Oh wait Mack already did that to him in Dallas. 45-35.
seth78 - November 30, 2008
dude,
oklahoma state had just called a timeout and all brown was doing was running it up the middle.
kbd - November 30, 2008
dude,
25 seconds left, first down, on the 20-something. how many timeouts did osu have, infinity? give me a break. he was running up the score so he could go to the camera and say “see? we beat osu by 20!” which he immediately did. in that situation, a classy coach goes into the v formation.
iamjackburton - November 30, 2008
doable?
i seem to have read somewhere that it’s DOABLE for ut to stay ahead of ou if mack, who has a vote in the coach’s poll, to leave ou off the ballot completely. i mean, totally shaft them. and if he could get one or two other coaches with votes to do likewise. it would be unethical of course, but hey, this is ou we’re talking about. screw’em. am i wrong here?
iamjackburton - November 30, 2008
I read it too
I don’t think Mack does it.
He will politic as much as he can but at the end of the day he always says the same thing “We will go wherever they send us.” Mack Brown is no Bob Stoops and I thank God for that.
seth78 - November 30, 2008
UT could and DID stop them....
When it was the OU 1.0
TexasSooner - November 30, 2008

"just letting the teams’ play be the determinant"
TexasSooner,
In your own words, 45-35, is letting the teams play be determinant. There should not be any talk about voters. The teams have played and determined.
Thank you for your support in letting the world know that Texas is more deserving team to go to the Big 12 CG.
drycreek - November 30, 2008
the big question in my mind with that pitiful 2.0 argument is simply
Why did your beloved Sooners WAIT till after Texas polished them into the ground to show up 2.0? Texas doesn’t need motivation, BlowU does. We deserve it because we beat you simply stated.
jacobb23 - November 30, 2008
I can't wrap my head
around these facts and how they are being totally disregarded… 1) OU was #1 in the nation on oct. They both lost this weekend, does that also favor OU?
jrod23mc - November 30, 2008
but....
our SOS took a hit when CU and Mizzou couldn’t finish the deal against their opponents. Also, FAU helped us out with a big win while UTEP got destroyed. All in all, the weekend was a wash in terms of hoping for massive computer help.
junglerules - November 30, 2008
Also Rice!
jw4425 - November 30, 2008
re: Florida
If you want to look at their computer help, they really had a rough weekend. Miami, Vandy, UGA, LSU, South Carolina, all lost. Had a couple teams on their schedule win, but it seems like they took some hits overall.
junglerules - November 30, 2008
so, i know this is pretty much a foregone conclusion...
…since Florida is so close to us in the BCS, but are they guaranteed to jump us if they beat Alabama? The computers don’t love Florida. I just wonder if somehow the computers held on and we were still somehow in the top 2.
