To anybody who can explain why even with a win over Bama Florida will jump UT in the polls. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Florida’s SOS is lower than Texas’ and Florida has a worse loss (at home to unranked team). Florida has three wins right now over top 25 teams including one win over a top 10 team. Texas has the same, but all three top 25 wins are over opponents ranked higher than Florida’s. Florida’s toughest four game stretch was South Carolina, Citadel (WTF) Florida State and Alabama. Texas’ was…I’m sure you know. Against common opponent Arkansas, Florida had a margin of 31 whilst Texas had 42. Granted our Arkansas game was at home versus Florida’s at Arkansas, but is that worth an 11 point differenetial against a weak team? Anyway, call me crazy bu I’m pulling for OU tonight because I believe there is a rematch possibility.
That’d just be said given the two teams are pretty easily comparable in their schedules. People need to quit power polling at the end of the season, dangit!
A big OU win tonight could put them in the #1 spot and decrease the space between Texas and Florida in the human polls. That being said, i’ll be rooting hard for Mizzou tonight.
If OU loses, you’re in. If OU wins, you’re probably not in. (If OU wins huge, it’s possible that they would be a unanimous #1 and the computers might keep you ahead of Florida … but not likely.)
If you want to be in the title game, you are a Mizzou fan tonight.
if OU wins, we should actually root for them to win in a huge blowout. We’d want them to get as many 1st place votes as possible from the Coaches and Harris guys, so Florida would be stuck with #2 votes at the highest.
Is that Mizzou doesn’t seem like the team that likes to sustain long drives and eat the clock. We totally wore down OU’s defense and had a big advantage in TOP. I don’t think Mizzou is the type of team for that.
Why reference that 2001 Big 12 title game and use a picture of the Major? Use a picture of Chris Simms. He was the guy who lost it. Major almost brought us back.
about the only thing that could spoil the season for me...
at this point would be Oklahoma beating Florida in the BCS championship. When you think about it, Texas stands a pretty good chance of ending the year at #2 and as the highest ranked team in the Big 12. That being said, let’s see a miracle tonight.
they almost have to kick it deep to even give themselves a chance of containing it, meaning maclin will get it. that then means that he can take it back for a td.
Third and 2: Line up five wide and run a keeper.
Three and out with a shanked punt by OU: Five wide on first down, has to throw it away. Loss on second. Three and out.
After touchdown: Stupid penalty to give OU great field position.
After getting the ball on OU’s side of the field: Run a keeper. Fumble.
This is why you coach at Mizzou, Pinkel.
I’m out. I’m not going to watch this kind of stupid coaching.
When you abandon the run game and let OU just come after you. Instead of using Maclin or Washington, you use the fatso to run the f***ing football. Nice. JUST NICE.
Absolutely terrible. Watch these guys. Rewind the last two runs and watch how easily these guy are blocked. They go out of their way to not make tackles.
Mizzou will regret the day they signed this guy to an extension. The writing is on the wall with this guy. He had a very lucky season in a year where OU and UT were down (and with favorable scheduling).
Mizzou should have just given up their place in the game to us
OU vs Texas, winner goes to MNC, loser goes to Fiesta. Mizzou would get OU’s spot in Cotton Bowl. But no Mizzou doesn’t wanna play any damn ball today. Way to fail, Missouri.
in the polls with this route. this is the last game the voters will see. If OU gets 60, they’ll set an NCAA record for most games in a row with 60+ pts.
Why do we even have freaking north-south CCG. This makes no sense no more than ever. Have the top teams in the conference play. This needs to be changed.
for the standings to come out Sunday, then we’ll start bitching again. We’ve got a shot at #2 if logic prevails. “Logic clearly dictates the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.” Translation: Texas and common sense versus Florida or Tim Tebow.
Just pointing out that for the last two weeks one of the largest arguments I’ve heard to break the three-way tie is that UT beat Missouri, and NO ONE ELSE did (other than OSU). As if it was an incredible accomplishment.
I do believe what you’ve seen so far is a prime example that it was not such a great accomplishment.
OU never shirked the loss. OU tips their hat to UT for a good victory….
But, OU did follow through with the rest of the season, after UT opened the door by losing to Tech…. UT has no one to blame but themselves for a three-way tie……
There’s reason for OU to be ranked ahead of Texas even though I don’t agree with this outcome. There is however, no reason for Florida or anyone else to be ranked above Texas.
2008, North team down 31 at half
2007, North team loses by 21
2006, North team loses by 14
2005, North team loses by 67
2004, North team loses by 39
2003, North team wins by 28
2002, North team loses by 22
So, North team now falls to 1-6 in the past 7 years. If Mizzou keeps it even in 2nd half, margin of victory for Big 12 conference winner? 31.7 POINTS.
A weaker division team can still make it because they have easier schedule, but they still have to be pretty good to have a good enough record. Missouri is clearly not good enough.
Florida still needs to gain about 102 votes on Texas in the human polls...
if hawaii loses tonight, cause they ain’t passin Texas in the computer polls without that. now having said that…………florida probably gets those votes…………..OU running up the score could complicate that though
The point of trolling is the satisfaction you get when others from the site get pissed at you, but can’t do anything about it.
It’s the glory of being anonymous. The internet gave idiots the power to mess with those who would kick the shit out of them in a face to face meeting.
will be a no-show when OU gets rolled by Florida, and Texas wins the Fiesta………………………at the end, Texas will have a better record, be higher ranked, and oh yeah there is that 45-35 game we’ve heard about!
Where will TexasSooner be then? Not on this forum, thats for sure.
I think it was after first drive of 3rd quarter. I know for a fact Nordgren played the third drive. He got a rushing touchdown with 8 minutes left in 3rd.
1. Oklahoma vs. 8. Penn State
2. Florida vs. 7 Texas Tech
3. Texas vs. 6. Utah
4. USC vs. 5. Alabama
Not that hard. 8 teams go. Boise State doesn’t get in. Tough shit, if they don’t like that they should schedule more than one decent OOC team (Oregon this year).
But arent they a little premature in breaking down an OU and Florida match up as if there is absolutely now way that it wont happen. Maybe I should stop torturing myself
…I watched the UF-Bama game with a friend who is an OU fan and who is very wired into this whole BCS thing — like email a question to his buddy Jerry Palm and get a response within five minutes wired — and he wasn’t even aware aware of this scenario. Once I pointed it out and he began crunching the numbers and got some feedback from the Palm types, he became a believer that it can (not will, but can) happen.
Point is: if a BCS number crunching geek like this wasn’t even aware of what might happen, I don’t think Brent and Herbie will be either.
regardless of the bowl result………..as long as Mccoy comes back, which after all that has transpired (and he’s not winning the heisman)…..he should be back ……………….TEXAS HAS UNFINISHED BUSINESS TO SETTLE NEXT YEAR!!
They’ve scheduled a new series against A&M to be played annually at Jerry World, so they decided they didn’t want to play the Aggies and Texas in the same year.
OU had Middle TN State on the 2nd year of a contract, when they reneged on the contract, and OU had to scramble to get someone else who would come and play. TN Chattanooga was about the only ones who were interested….. No DIV I teams wanted a payday….
I find it interesting that you aren’t so quick to defend your “classy” program with the 1st team offense in the game at the 8:50 mark in the fourth quarter with a 27 point lead.
Cincy is 10-2, a major conference champ, on their way to the Orange Bowl. I’m a big college football fan. And I couldn’t name a single player on their team if my life depended on it.
After OU’s 62 points they will probably get the majority of the 1st place votes. If TX can garner a few #1 votes, and split a few #2 votes with Fl, they have a shot.
The next egg pooping out of Stoops ass will be fried with the OU logo on it, because we WILL settle this next year. You can put all of your eggs in the Longhorn basket for next year………..HOOKEM

Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
So I'm a bit confused
I’d been assuming all week that, if OU were to win, a OU blowout would make the “Florida doesn’t catch us” scenario likelier to happen.
But I just read bcsguru, and he makes the case that we’d be better served with a narrow OU win.
My head hurts after all this talk this week.

at this point would be Oklahoma beating Florida in the BCS championship. When you think about it, Texas stands a pretty good chance of ending the year at #2 and as the highest ranked team in the Big 12. That being said, let’s see a miracle tonight.

Mizzou drives to 32
terrible play call (QB keeper) to try to convert 3rd and 2. Lose four yards. Kicker just barely misses 48 yd fg
ellayhorn - December 6, 2008
summary...
OU comes out strong, moving the ball at will on the first drive. Somehow their shanked field goal goes through.
Mizzou gets a few first downs but not moving the ball quite like OU. Short on a 48 yard field goal by inches.
3-0.

ellayhorn - December 6, 2008
Mizzou had two shots to seize momentum
Horrible playcalling muffed both. This might be finished.
TheElusiveShadow - December 6, 2008
they doint have the rushing attack they had with murray, so why not try and play the pass a little better?

JBHOOKEM22 - December 6, 2008
It seems like Mizzou is trying to keep ou off the field with short stuff.
But that may be giving Pinkel too much credit.
ctex80 - December 6, 2008

i do too but i have to disagree. is it jeff or will demps for florida? and harvin are definitely faster.
but they should all go pro..

Do they EVER fucking call holding on OU?

Yes, as a matter of fact.

Run down of Mizzou’s chances:
Third and 2: Line up five wide and run a keeper.
Three and out with a shanked punt by OU: Five wide on first down, has to throw it away. Loss on second. Three and out.
After touchdown: Stupid penalty to give OU great field position.
After getting the ball on OU’s side of the field: Run a keeper. Fumble.
This is why you coach at Mizzou, Pinkel.

Mizzou should go to Shreveport. That's suitable. nt

OU gonna be #1

Florida fans should be nervous.

Hell no Florida isn't going to be nervous. Florida D is gonna take it to Ou.

Only question is how much it will rise and how they are voted by the humans

Having teams like this represent the north division is ridiculous.

Why do we even have freaking north-south CCG. This makes no sense no more than ever. Have the top teams in the conference play. This needs to be changed.

LonghornLostinLA - December 6, 2008
There was talk
that FOX wanted the SEC loser vs Texas (if OU won) at the Sugar Bowl. I can’t see the Fiesta wanting that w/out cash payment
shadyrock - December 6, 2008
So..........
One of biggest arguments pointed to by UT was their beatdown of Missouri (at home in Austin), and the ‘dominating defense’ in that game.
Huh. Well, there goes that argument….
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
We beat y'all
bfaut86 - December 6, 2008
But no matter how much you want to forget it...
UT lost to Tech. A ‘worse loss’.
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
Do you have the capacity for abstract thought?
bfaut86 - December 6, 2008
You're seriously resorting to a Mizzou halftime lead as opposed to a head-to-head defeat on a neutral field?
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
Not at all
Just pointing out that for the last two weeks one of the largest arguments I’ve heard to break the three-way tie is that UT beat Missouri, and NO ONE ELSE did (other than OSU). As if it was an incredible accomplishment.
I do believe what you’ve seen so far is a prime example that it was not such a great accomplishment.
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
Try getting a real education
bfaut86 - December 6, 2008
I think the largest argument was 45-35. I'm certain ou didn't miss that.
You’re not going to convince us, we’re not going to convince you. Thus, your only purpose here is to troll. Drive through!
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
Unlike others....
OU never shirked the loss. OU tips their hat to UT for a good victory….
But, OU did follow through with the rest of the season, after UT opened the door by losing to Tech…. UT has no one to blame but themselves for a three-way tie……
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
no our argument is that we beat OU
justfr1day - December 6, 2008
period
justfr1day - December 6, 2008
And, you lost to Tech
AND, you didn’t win the south…
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
We did win the South, actually. Thanks.
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
Actually, no
you didn’t, but we’ll let you think you did…. :)
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
Co-champs. Thank Crabtree for your share, because you sure as hell didn't earn it.
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
Furthermore
There’s reason for OU to be ranked ahead of Texas even though I don’t agree with this outcome. There is however, no reason for Florida or anyone else to be ranked above Texas.
UTexasCPA - December 6, 2008
Wow
You really must have no life. What is going to be excuse when Florida ass-massacres you?
Texas Our Texas - December 6, 2008

Big 12 North
Here’s the Big 12 title game history recently:
2008, North team down 31 at half
2007, North team loses by 21
2006, North team loses by 14
2005, North team loses by 67
2004, North team loses by 39
2003, North team wins by 28
2002, North team loses by 22
So, North team now falls to 1-6 in the past 7 years. If Mizzou keeps it even in 2nd half, margin of victory for Big 12 conference winner? 31.7 POINTS.
JohnsonUT - December 6, 2008
Get rid of the divisions...
…keep the scheduling the same (based on the now non-existent divisions) and have the top two teams period play in the championship game
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
I agree
A weaker division team can still make it because they have easier schedule, but they still have to be pretty good to have a good enough record. Missouri is clearly not good enough.
JohnsonUT - December 6, 2008
Florida still needs to gain about 102 votes on Texas in the human polls...
if hawaii loses tonight, cause they ain’t passin Texas in the computer polls without that. now having said that…………florida probably gets those votes…………..OU running up the score could complicate that though

How would a playoff work this year?
7 BCS conference one-loss teams (T tech, Tx, OU, Fl, Alabama, USC, and PSU)
2 undefeated teams (Utah and Boise St.)
2 other BCS conference champions (Va Tech and Cincinatti)
Who should be in the playoff?
froggiebaby - December 6, 2008
Half the SEC, USC, OU, and , um, two more SEC teams
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
It wouldnt work if there were automatic berths

Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
I agree, go with the 8 best teams
1. Oklahoma vs. 8. Penn State
2. Florida vs. 7 Texas Tech
3. Texas vs. 6. Utah
4. USC vs. 5. Alabama
Not that hard. 8 teams go. Boise State doesn’t get in. Tough shit, if they don’t like that they should schedule more than one decent OOC team (Oregon this year).
the1austin - December 6, 2008

We should win but I don’t think it’s going to be a blowout.
It’ll be interesting to see how well Mack can motivate the team. If we do win, then I’m thinking we could be preseason #1 next year.
goingforthecorner - December 6, 2008
kinda sad we have to worry about our team being up for a BCS bowl...
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
I imagine it will be like playing Baylor with a slightly worse passing attack but some defense to back it up.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
Also, Beanie Wells would be a bit better than Finley...
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
Ohio State stinks
Wells or no Wells. They are horrible.
milevin - December 6, 2008
rather play them than Utah.. That is just a waste of a BCS bowl.
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
I would love to somehow play Alabama...but that won't happen...
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
right now, that would be the second best bowl for me, behind the mnc.
But I would love a shot at bama, they looked really good today.
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
yes. there is nothing to be won from playing mid-majors
trust me, i know
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
What the hell
Bradford has a injury and has to have surgery in the morning, 4 scores ahead and the 1 st string in still in. What a classless program.
Xerxes - December 6, 2008
Just what I was thinking.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
All they have to do is put Halzle in and let him hand off to backup RBs.
But of course they want points.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
Like I said the year sportsmanship died.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
but this is big game, high road bob
zissou - December 6, 2008
what the hell is shithead thinking?
I hope this turns out to bite stoops in the ass somehow.
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
It wont
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
If you think OU can beat Florida, you're shitfaced.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
you talking to me?
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
You dont think they can beat them?
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
OU can't touch a running QB...
And their defense has absolutely no chance of stopping an option with Tebow and Demps/Harvin/Rainey…
All you have to do to beat OU is throw right down the middle…it’s very easy. Texas did it, but no one took note…
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
I can't believe they are going for 60.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
I can, he has the last 4 games, why not now?
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
I seriously thinks this is so bad for football in general.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
Don't worry about the Bowls
Keanu will uhhhhh … Make the world uhhhhhhhh … stand still
(Dec 12th at a theater near you)
shadyrock - December 6, 2008

Put it on your Blockbuster list now.
milevin - December 6, 2008
Ive never seen it
is it worth renting?
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
I want to see Mizzou back QB.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
I'd like to congratulate the Sooners...
…for bringing their record on neutral fields this season back to .500.
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
Never put anything past those Land Thieves
poteet76 - December 6, 2008
11 defenders standing in the box
and none of them lay a finger on the RB as he goes by?
milevin - December 6, 2008
MIzzou is the fifth best team in the Big 12 South
milevin - December 6, 2008
Baylor could be Mizzou. Hell maybe even A&M.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
Tigers topped Bears by 3.
FWIW
milevin - December 6, 2008
I know its a long shot
But arent they a little premature in breaking down an OU and Florida match up as if there is absolutely now way that it wont happen. Maybe I should stop torturing myself
poteet76 - December 6, 2008
yes they are....
silky51 - December 6, 2008
Weird thing...
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
On one BCS site
If Cinci wins, the probability is ONLY 60-40 in Florida’s favor to pass us up.
With OU blowing Mizzou out, they should get some 1st place votes, so there’s only so much ground Florida can make up.
goingforthecorner - December 6, 2008
Texas will be preseason #1 next year...
regardless of the bowl result………..as long as Mccoy comes back, which after all that has transpired (and he’s not winning the heisman)…..he should be back ……………….TEXAS HAS UNFINISHED BUSINESS TO SETTLE NEXT YEAR!!
silky51 - December 6, 2008
Texas top 2 next year
OU top 5. Tech unranked. Ok St top 15.
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
Florida the other one of the top 2?
blazzinken - December 6, 2008
with Tebow back.
Not without. The USC lovefest will continue if they beat Penn ST
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
OU top 5 if Bradford returns.
Call me crazy, but I doubt he stays.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
Clearly the key to next year...
will be losing the RRS. That should clear the path.
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
I would rather lose early then later as proven this season.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
I'd rather we just not lose...
GAHorn - December 6, 2008
No doubt.
As long as the polls have anything to do with conference standings, the RRS is potentially meaningless because it’s played in mid-October.
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
And schedule the tough opponents at the end of the year when people care more
poteet76 - December 6, 2008
I'll take win every game, for 100.
notsofst - December 6, 2008
The whole system is messed up.
Voters can’t remember the whole season.
we need a playoff now, not next year, now.
Hook'em13 - December 6, 2008
agree!
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
Who does UT play next year non-conference.
Better teams?
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
UTEP, Rice & UCF at home,a nd Wyoming (WTF?!?) on the road
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
...which means we have zero margin for error
Lose by 10 to OU and we’re out of it!
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
And
Louisiana Monroe
MUCH better noncon schedule than this year
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
Yes, ULM instead of Rice
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
Hey, they're all Division I-A. More than I can say for some...
crackaTX - December 6, 2008
Ouch.
Need to get that big time BCS team back on the schedule. Those OSU games were huge for two years
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
We have UCLA in the future, but Arkansas pulling out of their last two years with us hurt us.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
That sucks
Was it Nutt that pullled out?
(hmmm that sentence came out wrong…)
(i swear that wasnt on purpose…)
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
A&M
They’ve scheduled a new series against A&M to be played annually at Jerry World, so they decided they didn’t want to play the Aggies and Texas in the same year.
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
Poor Aggies....
I mean, it is so tough to play Texas and Texas A&M in the same season, they bailed on the SWC!
jhwutx74 - December 7, 2008
No, we have ULM instead of UTEP
IIRC
milevin - December 6, 2008
Just looked it up, it's ULM, UTEP and UCF at home; at Wyoming
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
I will miss that Rice game
milevin - December 6, 2008
Why aren't we playing them next year?
We go right back to playing them in 2010 and 2011.
Hopkins Horn - December 6, 2008
Not a good non-conference schedule.
But OU still has to schedule 3 teams. Which means maybe 1 or 2 FCS (Division II) teams.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
Two. They already have @ Miami and Tulsa
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
Ahh okay.
HornPossessed - December 6, 2008
but if they have to fill two spots this late who knows who they can get.
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
This year
OU had Middle TN State on the 2nd year of a contract, when they reneged on the contract, and OU had to scramble to get someone else who would come and play. TN Chattanooga was about the only ones who were interested….. No DIV I teams wanted a payday….
TexasSooner - December 6, 2008
OU is at Tech
where they have lost they two times. 0-3?
milevin - December 6, 2008
Actually it was Clemson that cancelled the series
Jon Woods - December 6, 2008
PINKEL IS A DUMBASS!
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
Maclin is such a punk
I cannot stand him. Worse than Harrell, IMO. He must catch that ball.
milevin - December 6, 2008
he did. Did you not see the replay.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
Ball popped out when he landed
No TD catch. Good call.
milevin - December 6, 2008
I can't believe he didn't challenge that.

see second half against Texas and 4th quarter against Kansas.

ESPN
I wish ESPN would stop feeding nonsense by predicting OU v Florida at NCG.
UTexasCPA - December 6, 2008
Why that is gonna be the matchup.
girlslikefootball2 - December 6, 2008
I think you're gonna be surprised tomorrow
it’s gonna be damn close between TX and Fl for #2.
froggiebaby - December 6, 2008
No it won't.
GAHorn - December 6, 2008
OK if you say so
TX is gonna be up in the computers .94 to .89
After OU’s 62 points they will probably get the majority of the 1st place votes. If TX can garner a few #1 votes, and split a few #2 votes with Fl, they have a shot.
