It's #5 Texas vs. #8 Oklahoma. A Texas win could make the difference between hosting and playing somewhere hostile in the first round. Kenn Kasparek takes the mound for the Horns.
[Note by Horn Brain, 05/24/08 9:12 AM CDT ] It's 9:12 in TEXAS....
[Note by Horn Brain, 05/24/08 1:09 PM CDT ] ... And OU still sucks! Texas wins 11-10 by coming back from a 10-8 deficit in the bottom of the ninth. David Hernandez is a god today. See comments for details.

And OU Still Sucks
Torres reaches on an error by the OU second baseman (oh the irony) and scores on a Jordan Danks double. KK ran into trouble in the top half but struck out the last two hitters
40AS - May 24, 2008
2-0 Horns through 1
Brandon Belt singles in Danks.
40AS - May 24, 2008
OU continues to suck - Bot 1st
Danks advanced to third on a ground out by Moldenhauer, then scores on a single by Belt. 2-0 Guys that buy their land through accepted channels.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Sooners get zero again in the 2nd...
Probably karma from all that land they stole in the 1800’s.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Horns go quietly
Top 3, 2-0 Texas
40AS - May 24, 2008
3-0 Horns
Danks singles, caught stealing in pitchout
Russell singles, Moldenhauer doubles him home
40AS - May 24, 2008
Top of the order is deadly today.
If Danks hadn’t gotten caught, it’s 4-0 right now.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
5-0, rather
Clark doubles to left to score Kyle.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Clark!
Ripped it.
horndude - May 24, 2008
Nice...
Texas into the OU bullpen early. Let’s score two more.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Keep the comments coming!
I appreciate this. I can’t get the Big 12 site to load.

Hernandez grounds to p to end the rally.
Good guys 4, disgusting trash-folk 0.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Where were these bats against Mizzou?
I know, the worst Tigers pitcher is a whole level better than the best of the Sooners’ rotation. But man it’s frustrating to watch this firepower when all we needed was two more runs…
OU with runners at 2nd and 3rd, one out.
NYCHorn, did you try launching GameTracker from texassports.com?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Bingo!
thanks, phf.
NYCHorn - May 24, 2008
Big Bird Struggling?
Just walked the batter to load the bases after Sooners score their first run.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
KK gets out of a huge jam
Gives up one run in the top of the fourth. Texas 4, vomitous heathen currs 1.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Tucker with a homer!
wow.
horndude - May 24, 2008
6-1 now, no outs, bottom 4th
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Travis Tucker launches one!
Rupp was at first, 2-run homer gives Texas a 6-1 lead!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
New pitcher.
... hmm, I wonder if Travis had anything to do with that?
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
heh heh
our .228 hitter sends a full count pitch over the LF fence.
OU Sux.
horndude - May 24, 2008
Torres doubles to right
Excellent…
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
6-1!
I go get Quizno’s when it’s 3-0 and I see we’ve put up three more, well done everybody!
40AS - May 24, 2008
Mmm... Toasty! .nt whills
Did you know that whills consistently takes an extra toothpick from restaurants to keep in his console for later use? Save some for us, man.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Torres steals third.
Small ball for the WIN!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Torres stranded, inning over
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
3 up 3 down
KK gets back on track. 6-1 good guys.
horndude - May 24, 2008
3 up, 3 down
Much better Kenn
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
3 up 3 down for the good guys too :-(
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Nothing doing in the fifth.
top of the 6th, still 6-1.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
3 up 3 down again for Big Bird
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Interesting stat...
Discounting the two Alabama A&M games, Texas starters have averaged 7 2/3 innings since being swept by Okie State. That, ladies and gentlemen, is why this team is winning.
40AS - May 24, 2008
Also
Only once (Cole Green in the 4-1 lost to KSU) has a starter gone fewer than 5 innings.
40AS - May 24, 2008
Kenn's wobbling again
Think Augie’s gonna pull him?
Runners at 1st and 2nd, no outs.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Even worse...
Bases loaded, no outs.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Cole in for Kenn
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
.... and he promptly walks in a run
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Big first out
Fly out to Danks. If Texas can get out of this up 6-3 or 6-4, it’ll be a good thing
40AS - May 24, 2008
Wild pitch, another run
Think Green is a little rattled by coming in with bases loaded?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Huge K, 2 away
40AS - May 24, 2008
6-6 Dammit!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
And another hit.... another run. 7-6
Shades of Okie State series?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Green's done, Workman in
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Thank God for Kyle Russell!
Russell throws out a runner at the plate to end the inning and keep the deficit at 1 run. Kyle has an absolute cannon for an arm.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Let's hope he's got a cannon for a bat in this inning too!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Nice double.
Little OU dude on game tracker had to run into the stands to catch it.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
LOL
They need an animation that shows the fielders leaping at the fence. This animation is lame!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Russell to third on a ground-out.
Plate him for God’s sake.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Yes!
Belt singles Russell home, tie game.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
God listened
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
I was pleading on God's behalf.
Belt heard the voice of God and obeyed.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008

patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008

Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
K to start the 8th
40AS - May 24, 2008
Clark's not having his best game today either...
Did he have any shot at that triple that plated 3 runs in the 6th?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Uh oh.
Error bug bites Clark. Let’s hope it’s not contagious.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Bot 8, 7-7
Foul out then fly out to end the threat
40AS - May 24, 2008
Yes! Sac fly, 8-7 Texas
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Oh wait, now it's a single?
The little OU dude appeared to catch it the first time…..
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Travis Tucker = Hero
Rupp walks, advances to second on a failed pickoff, scores on a Tucker single. 8-7 good guys!
40AS - May 24, 2008
Yeah, but Wrokman's gotta be a hero in the top of the 9th now
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Tucker singles to plate Rupp!
Holy Warriors back out in front of the Demon Red, 8-7.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
How's this - Crusaders 8, Saracens 7?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Bad comparison...
... Crusaders
A.) Weren’t the good guys all the time
B.) Generally got their asses handed to them.
If we score again we’ll have to come up with something else.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
New pitcher.
I hear dinner bells. His ERA is like 6.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Damnit
Double play. I need a HERO!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Will Belt be your hero?
He’s in for Workman now. Let’s hope he’s about to earn his 3rd save.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Double play
Come on Brandon, 3 outs and I can go to the pub
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Bastards bunted for a hit.
Runners on the corners no one out.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Infield fail.
muffed throw by short (?) allows an easy out to reach base.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
oh yeah, and tie game.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Horn Brain
can you teleport your girlfriend to OKC?
horndude - May 24, 2008
Sometimes it works if she watches the game...
But I just called her and she’s in the shower.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Pitching shuffle
Belt out, Thomas in. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to leave Workman in for the last inning? Or is Augie getting his guys ready for NCAA-type pressure?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
I don't know what he's doing...
... but he sure rubbed the wrong crystals together before the top of the 9th…
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Crap.....
Now we need 2 in the bottom of the 9th! At least!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Ugh....
Thomas beans the go-ahead run home. Bases loaded, two out.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
And another pitching change
This sure looks like the Keystone Kops all of a sudden. Where’s Augie’s magic?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Good god
This is embarassing!!! Is Augie going to empty the ‘pen this morning?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Shinaberry's ERA? 8.10!!!!!!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
in 10 innings.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Doesn't exactly leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling....
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Left all the lucky crystals in Austin, I suppose. .nt whills
This is all whills’ fault. All of it.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
That's about enough absentee abuse.
I come strolling through for some catch-up and here I find somewhat more than my fair share of abuse. Somehow I missed the start of this particular episode and find myself in a free floating piece of continuity.
However, in the end, the Horns triumph in spectacular fashion, everything falls into place for the Big 12 Tourney Championship, so I guess that it is all my
faultpowerful mystical personal mojo that gets the job done when the neuron impaired run low on inspiration. You can’t do that with an absentee girlfriend, you know.
whills - May 24, 2008
Walked home another run.
Now Shinaberry’s in. Augie is saying we have to win this game in the ninth, because Shinny can’t pitch more than 3 outs.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Shinaberry throws a K
After about 10 foul balls. Geez.
Ok, if Danks can get on, Russell can tie it.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
How the hell does the OU pitcher...
... have a 2-0 record and 9 saves with a 6.5 ERA?
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Now, Danks,
don’t get thrown out.
horndude - May 24, 2008
Kyle walk stoo
Guess that’s how the guy has ended up with 6.5 ERA?
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Not an ER if they walk.
Boggles the mind.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
It is an earned
run if they walk.
vyrexall - May 24, 2008
Holy shit.

Horn Brain - May 24, 2008

Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
No problem
vyrexall - May 24, 2008
And OU pitching carousel starts.....
Russell M, a HR right now and you replace David Maroul on my “man crush” list.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Walked Danks and Russell.
Winning run at the plate. Come on, guys!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Fouled out to 3b on a bunt?
WHY CAN’T AN AUGIE GARRIDO TEAM BUNT?
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
I hate small ball
Why not go for it all at that point? You have two more outs to play with!!!!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
If it had worked, Belt would have just tied the game.
That’s why small ball.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
YES!
Belt singles, drives in Danks. Russell moves to third with one out. Sac fly for the tie, baby!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Aren't you going to appeal to God again?
Or your girlfriend?? We need some help here!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Sooners suck.
There’s your help!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
You strike out looking?
Honestly, what have we learned from the Aggies?
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Or should I say what have we caught.... .nt whills
Seriously whills, I’m coming to your house if we don’t win this game.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Geez, Brain, I guess you ain't coming.
Damn, i missed your lucky girlfriend.
And this game, too, obviously.
whills - May 24, 2008
Ack! He reads my subject!
I was wondering when you would say something about my ”.nt whills” campaign. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback about it, all positive. Maybe if it catches on we can turn this into a BON tradition!
Horn Brain - May 25, 2008
Haven't been around to read much.
Then I discovered this “campaign.”
So, what is your logic?
whills - May 25, 2008
Just poking at your ".nt" for "no text"
You’re the only one I remember using it, so I started putting ”.nt, whills” after my no text posts. Wells thought it was funny, and now some other people do it, too. You’re famous!

Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Hold your horses there HB
We’re not in the CG yet!
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Well I can't do anything about it at this point...
... So I’m assuming we are.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
BTW, is anyone watching this live on TV?
Belt must have some serious wheels on him to score the winning run from 2nd on a single.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
dooo dooo rooo dooo doo
hehe, now i go back to sleep. honestly, it’s hard to root for the aggies, but i will root for them HARD.
Cyrus - May 24, 2008
Was that the weird nintendo-style song they play when we score?
Freaking love that song, but what they heck is it?
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Not bad for a day's work.
Shinaberry get’s one K and gets the win.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Holy shit Horns Fans
Has there ever been a BASEBALL thread with over 100 comments before???
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Not sure...
... Will check.
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Wow...
I think the most we’ve had is 31 for one of the Aggie games this year. Before this year I think the most was like 12. This is definitely the winner! Yay baseball!
Horn Brain - May 24, 2008
Random thoughts
This was a great win for the Horns, obviously. Even if we don’t end up in the Big XII CG, a win like this should get the juices flowing. The team is carrying great momentum into the Regional round.
This win also should be more than enough to lock down a 2 seed, hopefully in one of the weaker Regionals like Ann Arbor or Hattiesburg.
As for the next game, I wouldn’t put it past the Aggies to pull off the upset. I clearly know next to nothing about baseball – are they a lock to host a Regional? If they don’t win this afternoon, does this knock them into some other school’s Regional? At a minimum, I would think it puts them at risk of having a very strong non-hosting team assigned to College Station, effectively killing their chances to advance.
patienthornsfan - May 24, 2008
Thoughts
We’ll try to post some expanded thoughts once we know if Texas is done for the weekend or not. Either way, Texas should have sowed up a 2-seed and should have as good a chance as any 2-seed of hosting. This team has to have great confidence heading into postseason play.
40AS - May 24, 2008
Hosting
On the radio, the opinion was generally that win = regional host. If we advance from pool play, we’d have to, right? With things going as they have, it seems to be a reasonable bet. St. John’s played themselves out. Has ATM’s eight game skid, coupled with a poor tournament, done the same for them? Rice had a poor CUSA tournament (but they should still host, no?). Baseball America says San Diego wouldn’t host if they’re a regional top seed, but I don’t know how they finished and if this is even an issue.
Let’s hope we can get one in Austin and really get out the crowd.

Nebraska-Okie State to follow
How we fared against them:
Swept at home by Okie St in a series where we lost every way possible, despite Chance Ruffin’s 10 inning performance on Friday’s game (if I remember the day right).
Salvaged the Sunday game to avoid a sweep in Austin vs. Nebraska. Nebraska looked pretty solid that weekend, aside from Sunday’s game.
It’s going to be a tough matchup either way. Most importantly, who is going to pitch for us? Can Chance go on 3 days’ rest? Would that even be worth it?
Only the Shadow knows the mind of Augie Garrido.
