If Texas had played a little better on Friday, Chance Ruffin would be on the mound today against Rice with a chance to assume command of the subregional. Some would prefer a team start with its best pitcher first; others like aligning the rotation the way Augie has. There are good cases to be made either way.
Regardless, we are where we are, and it'll be four straight wins or the season's end. At the very least, if an inspired rally's about to get started, the right guy's on the mound for Texas today.
Ruffin masterpiece rally thread.
One at a time, Texas. Win today and go from there.

Video
Neither Texas Sports nor the Rice athletics website say there is video of the game available, but CSTV indicates there will be. If so, it’s going to be here.

Torres has led off with a single. We are the visiting team.

DANKS OMGWTFBBQFBI!
2 run HR. KA-RUSHED.
amorphous - May 31, 2008
Russell back to back.
Where was this yesterday? 3-0!

Beautiful
Bats are alive…

You Know Who flies into a DP
Obviously not his fault on the DP, but for reals Hernandez.
5 hits in the inning nearly matches yesterday’s output (6).
amorphous - May 31, 2008
Pop up to second - for a hit.
Hernandez called it(?), moved to the 1B side, then backed off, and Tucker didn’t play it. Drops in for a single.
amorphous - May 31, 2008
They redeem themselves by turning two on a ball hit hard to Tucker

With a 4-0 lead in the 2nd
Sam changes pitchers.
I’m glad I’m a UT fan watching these last two games, considering CSTV is using KVET’s audio. I hate listening to homerism from opponents announcers, but love it when they’re my own.

Russell a 3R shot to center
2nd of the day. Now 7-0!
Per KVET, that ties him for the UT all-time lead.

Ruffin
If the hitting onslaught continues, how long do they keep Ruffin in?
mattyj - May 31, 2008
I'm not sure that he should have started...
I’d get him out right about… now. Boening should have started this game. Yeah, if we lose we go home, but if we win and burn up Ruffin, we’re not getting out of the regional, anyway.
Horn Brain - May 31, 2008
With as long as our offensive halves are lasting, we very well could take him out.
It might as well be a rain delay out there.

10-0 Texas in the 2nd
Runners on the corners
ryanlionrah - May 31, 2008
12-0 Texas
Torres with the triple.
ryanlionrah - May 31, 2008
Goodness
Wish we could save some of this for the next elimination game
Peter Bean - May 31, 2008
We are on pace to win 65-0 in a ten hour game.
And Russell will have nine home runs.
amorphous - May 31, 2008
No, 54-0. I calculated before Russell's K.
amorphous - May 31, 2008
Seems like a waste of Ruffin
Augie should pull him now, maybe get some use out of him in another game?
ryanlionrah - May 31, 2008
Other games
Elon eliminated Mt St Mary’s
Mississippi eliminated Bethune-Cookman
East Carolina eliminated Columbia (take THAT Ivy League.)

Leaving Ruffin in the game...
...I guess the thought is that you know he will finish this game.
While I definitely would have preferred to pull him early for tomorrow or Monday, we’re not running the risk of seeing any other pitcher struggle and not be available tomorrow…
This is a nice problem to have, but I’m not sure I wouldn’t have pulled him…
txtwstr7 - May 31, 2008
Who should we start tomorrow?
Are we going to wait to see who wins between St John’s and Rice?
amorphous - May 31, 2008
And then we waste Thomas for two innings...
...I really don’t know how we benefitted from today’s pitching decisions. I’m really not sure how to justify using Thomas for 2 innings tonight, instead of Hunter Harris or Justin Street.
Don’t you have to save Thomas, Workman, and McCrory for tomorrow and Monday? Once you’ve committed to using Ruffin for six innings to sew up the victory, then why use your top reliever in such a lopsided game?
I’m just frustrated we used our top reliever for two innings in such a blow-out game…

Anyone else lurking and watching the Rice game?
No? I figured.
amorphous - May 31, 2008
10-2 Rice in the top of the 6th
I’m switching over to aTm/Houston.
amorphous - May 31, 2008
What tiimes the game tomorrow? What channel?
the1austin - May 31, 2008
St. John's game is at 2:00 PM
If Texas wins, they will play Rice at 6:00 PM, or 1 hour after the completion of the first game.
Neither game will not be on TV, but you can watch them online for free by going to the following webpage and clicking on the “Watch” links next to the games: http://riceowls.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/08-rice-ncaa-central.html

Bad day for the rest of the Big XII
Anteaters upend the Corn 3-2
Shockers upset the Cowboys 5-3
ASU demolishes the Land Thieves 15-3
Tigers nearly upset #1 Miami but fall 6-5
Aggies – who probably got the luckiest draw of the post-season – wipe out Houston 22-4
