So far we've learned the Pac-10 is not very good, Michigan can't catch kickoffs, and Missouri might have this offense thing worked out. Most importantly, Tulane is tied with East Carolina at the half (Roll Wave!). On now:
Later tonight of interest (all times Central):
USC and Ohio State allegedly play tonight, although we haven't heard anything about it yet from ESPN.

Herbie on USC tOSU
I think it was last night, when he said Beanie is missing his biggest game ever!! More important that the MNC games. Give me a break!

Tulane
Tied at 21 late in the 3rd with the Wave driving…
40AS - September 13, 2008
24-21
Tulane up with the ball at their own 20, 12 minutes to play
40AS - September 13, 2008
28-24 :-(

Don't look now
but Notre Damn is ‘dominating’ a turnover-prone Michigan team that looks as if Sam McGuffie is the only college player out there.

Anyone see the UCLA-BYU game?
59-0 BYU in 4th quarter…Ouch.
HornPossessed - September 13, 2008
11 years later
BYU gives UCLA a shot of revenge on our behalf… Unfortunately, “66-3” will always live on by the guys yelling the score out of pure disgust on my wedding video.
Happy Anniverary to my wife.

Georgia v. South Carolnia
was a really good game. I dislike Spurrier, but his Gamecocks really should have won this game, with or without the horrible officiating.
The best game of the day by far so far was Buffalo v. Temple.
Anyone else crazy enough to join me in predicting osu in upset over usc? Yeah, I didn’t think so…

My picks for the week
have been horrible. That is all.

Rice leads Vandy
21-14 with 3+ left in 1st half
BigTexBD - September 13, 2008
and then vandy ties it
right before half at 21
BigTexBD - September 13, 2008
and we canceled the UT game again
WHY?
I think we actually saw 3 drops of rain today
JCHudson - September 13, 2008
Canceled because of
people evacuating to and through Austin (I think). I did not see any of this ‘evacuation’ they spoke of that would be causing major traffic.
No reason to cancel the game.
HornPossessed - September 13, 2008
I was at HEB on Thursday and people in Austin were going nuts...
Buying up batteries, all the bread, and all the water. It was a bit silly since we all knew at that point that the storm was passing us by….
I guess hindsight is 20/20. At the time, though, it seemed that delaying the game was the right thing to do.

USC vs OSU
I picked USC, but there is something inside of me that believes Terrelle Pryor can and will go Vince Young on USC. That would warm my heart and even though I hate OSU, I hate USC more.
HornPossessed - September 13, 2008
Pryor has looked good so far
but I doubt they’ll come back. I think both USC and OSU are overrated (I am totally not sold on Mark Sanchez, and that horribly underthrown pass that got picked off before halftime didn’t do much to change my mind), but in USC’s case, they are less overrated than the Buckeyes. I think they coast.

it appears..
that graham harrell is over his mini-hangover last week.

OSU Sucks!
Well for as horrible of a game this is shaping up to be, I am thankful of one thing for it. An embarassing ohio state loss, ensures that we will not have to watch jim tressel and his stupid vest in the national championshig game. i know one thing, if I am wearing that vest I start pryor in the second half and sit boeckman.

Have you guys seen MiZZOU?
There’s no guarantee that OU is even the best team in the conference. MiZZOU has been lights out.
the1austin - September 14, 2008
Mizzou needs to show a defense
before I’d say they’re the best team in the conference.
Nevada is a solid win for them, but Nevada doesn’t have a defense to speak of, either.
Beergut - September 14, 2008
herbstreit is so sad
his pred for this game was about as close as his ucla byu pred. way to go buddy.

Tressel announced that Wells was out on Friday.

this is a pretty thorough raping of that ohio team. i was almost doubled over laughing last week when they almost lost to the other ohio university. way to overlook them last week and almost lose, and way to stick your heads up your butts and play football this week.

Pryor
Doesn’t he look awfully like Vince?
Cyrus - September 13, 2008
Freshman Vince that is
Cyrus - September 13, 2008
No he doesn't
Remember this run, absolutely amazing. I didn’t see Pryor do anything close to that against a team of similar stature as OU in ‘03. Don’t get me wrong, Pryor is going to be good, but as soon as VY won the game against KSU, you knew the kid was going to be special. I don’t know if Pryor will be as special as VY. He looks like he can throw the ball better than VY, though.
Some more good times

I can’t believe I forgot this
longhornboy - September 14, 2008
Bob Toledo...
…. is doing some good work at Tulane!
Alabama couldn’t score an offensive TD.
E.Carolina won in the final moments.
I still remember 66-3 vs. Mackovic and 49-31 vs. Mack. I don’t know how UCLA ever let go of the guy. He should be coaching at a strong program, not trying to cure Tulane’s evils.

SEC can't play offense
I am so tired of this SEC crap and how superior the league is to everyone. I am tired of hearing how good the defenses are of the SEC. I was watching Auburn beating Mississippi St. 3-2, I repeat 3-2!!!!!!!!!!!, do you know how ridiculous and sad that is. Sure, Auburn and Mississippi State may have pretty decent defenses but that is just bad offense. Same thing with Georgia, the number two team in the country shouldn’t score only 14 points against South Carolina on the road. I don’t care how good the gamecocks’ defense is, there is no way that a team with Stafford and Moreno should only score 14 points. If Southern Cal or OU played South Carolina I guarantee you that they blow South Carolina out.
It seems to me that everybody in the SEC has bought in to just how “tough” their conference is (believe me it is pretty tough, but if you are the number two team in the country you shouldn’t be happy with surviving against South Carolina) that they accept just winning the game and accept playing poorly. If you are Auburn you shouldn’t be contempt with winning 3-2. Yet all I hear on the post game interviews is we are just happy to get out of here with a win, and any win in the SEC shouldn’t be taken for granted. It is ridiculous.
If the SEC is so tough, then how did Tennessee lose to a UCLA team with a 3rd string qb that lost to BYU 59-0? How did Alabama not score an offensive touchdown against Tulane at home? The SEC is just filled with bad offenses.
longhornboy - September 14, 2008
Some good points - Big 12 is better this year
realmccoy - September 14, 2008
Freudian slips
Is that ‘…should be held in contempt…’ or “…shouldn’t be content…”?
Number one fits the slant of your story but two is what you probably meant.
SEC apparently has more parity than suspected.
Last, it was a full moon weekend. Crazy shit happens.
It might be completely different next week.
whills - September 14, 2008
Apologize
Yeah it should have been content. I sometimes get those mixed up.

Stafford?
Seriously, why does it puzzle you that a team with Stafford at QB can’t score points? Stafford has to be the most over-hyped QB in the country this season. When was the last time he put up a complete passing game (300+ yds. 2+ TDs)? His passing stats are what you’d expect of a running quarterback, but contrary to what the ESPN guys would have us all believe after that scramble on Saturday, Stafford does NOT bring much of that dimension to the game. He’s like a running quarterback, minus the running. For crying out loud, he’s not even better than Casey Dick. His entire legend is based on his recruiting rating, as far as I can tell.
His stats through three games so far: 62.2 completion percentage, 4 touchdowns (1.33TD/game), 634yds. passing (211.3yds/gm),
His highest passing yardage game in his collegiate career has been 275yds. against Georgia Southern—one of only TWO times he’s ever eclipsed 250yds. as a passer. Some might think it’s just because he hasn’t had enough chances, consider that he’s also only averaging 7.23yds/att. Colt McCoy, on the other hand, has been averaging 7.97yds/att. Color me unimpressed by Stafford’s extremely ordinary college career thus far.
