It’s tough as a tackler to not just grab whatever is out there to stop him. Incidental facemask…no harm no foul. It’s only the more egregious twisting of the neck that they’re trying to prevent.
in the past, you grasp it, you let it go…five yards. now, you grasp it, you may as well yank it as there’s no incentive for releasing it. perhaps more dangerous?
do you go into a blue chip’s living room at age 88 and be convincing? then there’s the whole question of discipline issues. being a bowden ain’t what it used to be.
Any thoughts on a rule change to not allow tackling below the knee from the front or side? I’d apply it to the NFL too. Some serious knee injuries that can wipe out careers.
Find something to do with Chiles other than mop up quarterback and ill-formed Q package meanderings. Colt is the QB – end of story. I really feel bad that the defense got scored on after Chiles’ fumble. Sure, Chiles should have been used more last year so he could be ready this year – but, guess what, he wasn’t and he isn’t. Leave Colt in the game as The Quarterback. Find something else to do with Chiles.
Great Defense and McCoy is on fire....
I say let him run up some stats.

zissou - September 20, 2008
I don't like it because it just went against us.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
I like it
It’s tough as a tackler to not just grab whatever is out there to stop him. Incidental facemask…no harm no foul. It’s only the more egregious twisting of the neck that they’re trying to prevent.
Talk about facemask…
longhorns1 - September 20, 2008

HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
that is buzzkill
zissou - September 20, 2008
Yep
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
What the frick is this guy talking about?
That building looks like an owl?
Super Saiyan Patrick - September 20, 2008
after UTEP, they're lusting for far away sights.
whills - September 20, 2008
lol That was a catch by the camera crew in UTEP.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
I don't know, but he's mentioned it at least 3 times tonight.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
I sorta see it
Cyrus - September 20, 2008
It does look like an owl (Frost Bank Tower at an angle)
Picture Here (wouldn’t let me embed for some reason).
the1austin - September 20, 2008
It's a maliciously snide remark
about the economic prestige of being Rice grads. Subtle and not so subtle at the same time.
whills - September 20, 2008
It is supposed to look like an Owl
Some guy from Kansas state designed it.
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
Here
the1austin - September 20, 2008
looks kind of like
the cover of fly by night by rush…maybe it’s just the blue
zissou - September 20, 2008

Cyrus - September 20, 2008

40AS - September 20, 2008
id like to know if clement thinks its worth it to get destroyed by RAK for a 15 yard pass?
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
If he doesn't even question it, he's a tough SOB. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
he almost got the 1st down
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
getting back to the TE real quick
do we have any other TE that can stretch the field like Irby.
kcc28 - September 20, 2008

Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
clement

zissou - September 20, 2008

girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008

zissou - September 20, 2008
Miller will get some hefty sack yards maybe. nt
whills - September 20, 2008

Poll: Would you (as a db) take and tackle Cody Johnson head on?
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
No thanks
Super Saiyan Patrick - September 20, 2008
No sir.
I would run and cry.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008

Bchildress - September 20, 2008

Would you rather answer to Muschamp?
longhorns1 - September 20, 2008

Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008

adamluo - September 20, 2008
Viva Chiles!
the1austin - September 20, 2008

Bchildress - September 20, 2008
which of the espn family is telecasting this barnburner?
zissou - September 20, 2008
espn 2
Bchildress - September 20, 2008
we don't have a reliable back up QB.
This season rest in Colt and Colt alone.
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
Chiles just needs some confidence - he does not have to be better than Colt
krelldoggy - September 20, 2008
I want to see what Harris can do
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
agreed
zissou - September 20, 2008
In light of all our arguments here, that's pretty damn funny. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
You got your reliablity meter running, 2? nt
whills - September 20, 2008
espn 2
Bchildress - September 20, 2008
wow
Remember when FSU was a quarterback factory? Now, they can’t find one anywhere….it’s been that way for several years now
junglerules - September 20, 2008
how?
do you go into a blue chip’s living room at age 88 and be convincing? then there’s the whole question of discipline issues. being a bowden ain’t what it used to be.
zissou - September 20, 2008
Dammit, Meltons in!
I can’t wait for his eligibility to expire.
the1austin - September 20, 2008
He just made a sack. He's earning his keep. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
He's my Longhorn Pinata.
the1austin - September 20, 2008
He's big enough to take it. heh
whills - September 20, 2008
agreed!
He is still doing the reverse!
Cyrus - September 20, 2008
If I was the
Rice coaching staff, I’d get Clement out of the game.
longhorn543 - September 20, 2008
agree. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
Ummm, there was just a shot of Muschamp and something in his pants was glowing...
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
acho's damn good
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
Sack again.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Rice's O-line has just given up. Clement deserves better.
How many sacks is that?
the1austin - September 20, 2008
clement's fine
he’ll get his mensa certification and a great job after graduation.
zissou - September 20, 2008
How many sacks does Orakpo has on the season?
4?
Cyrus - September 20, 2008
clement needs to get out before he gets hurt....
junglerules - September 20, 2008
This game needs a backup QB pass TD
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008

SEC: League of the idiot qb's
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
What happened?
the1austin - September 20, 2008
Todd threw a dumbass pass near the red zone
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008

Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
NAH-UH THEY HAVE suCh gud offenzez in da SEC
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Auburn is going out of their way to lose that game.
the1austin - September 20, 2008
It's what they do best.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Auburn's QB is awful
the1austin - September 20, 2008
We need a Muschamp Cam and a Pom Squad Cam.
the1austin - September 20, 2008
Just toss the Pom Squad cam up.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
amen.
zissou - September 20, 2008
did you just see chiles steel that ball from hils?
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
Nope
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
id like to see chiles use the tebow jump pass. anyone?
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
Would be funny, if nothing else.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
throw the dang ball
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Super Saiyan Patrick - September 20, 2008
it's not about fixing it
It’s about giving Chiles some real reps at QB
Cyrus - September 20, 2008
Yea but you need to give Chiles some confidence in the passing game.
And to keep the defense honest when he is in.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
+2
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
exactly
Cyrus - September 20, 2008
Yeah, we know he can run!
krelldoggy - September 20, 2008

There's only 4,000 students at Tulsa?
I had that many in my Geology class at UT>
the1austin - September 20, 2008
Half of them are just sediment. nt
whills - September 20, 2008

Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
600 yards of total offense so far for Texas.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
whats our record, 692?
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
Not sure.
Somebody needs to look this up!
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
611. Vs. SMU, 1969.
All four backs had 100 yards rushing, too. I listened to that game. SMU had it coming.
whills - September 20, 2008
Oh and LSU on top at the start of the 4th quarter 17-14
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Rule change?
Any thoughts on a rule change to not allow tackling below the knee from the front or side? I’d apply it to the NFL too. Some serious knee injuries that can wipe out careers.
longhorns1 - September 20, 2008
agree
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
that guy could have pulled up.
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
Easily. You have to think he saw Irby miss that catch and still came at him.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
I thought it looked dirty
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
I don't think he meant to hurt him.
Maybe just wanted to get a tackle in without getting a flag.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Sorry dirty wasn't the right word
It was a textbook low tackle but man its unfortunate for Blaine.
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
Agreed. He was looking really promising in his development.
It’s a setback but he’ll recover.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Ouch, Keenan Robinson makes a play
the1austin - September 20, 2008
That's what LBs are supposed to do. Keenan Robinson has some chops. ch
whills - September 20, 2008
Rice: 22 Rushes for 12 yards
the1austin - September 20, 2008
Make it 23 for 17
the1austin - September 20, 2008
Yeah, that 26 yard run by Clement went to hell. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
what position is Aaron williams playing, db/ lb?
Texas_Fight - September 20, 2008
When did Ole Miss and Vandy play? lol
I missed everything from that entire game – haven’t even heard it mentioned today…
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Ugh, and Snead played awful. 12/25 with 4 interceptions...
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
Please do not let them score
Super Saiyan Patrick - September 20, 2008
What are those damn horns? They were there at the start of the game, too.
whills - September 20, 2008
Megaphones
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
Maybe they sound better in the stadium than through TV. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
sound like owls
hoo—hoo…we—lose
zissou - September 20, 2008
Male cheerleaders I think.
girlslikefootball2 - September 20, 2008
Maybe someone will report from the game when they get home.
Wonder if it echoed in the north section.
whills - September 20, 2008
Solid game
Night, folks
Super Saiyan Patrick - September 20, 2008
That's the game!
A good showing, but TO’s were a problem.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
last question
too much to drink or does emily jones look good in that vest?
zissou - September 20, 2008
Colt Season Stats: 63/81, 833 yards, 11 TD, 1 INT, 78% Completion %
Rushing, 25 Carries for 194 yards, 2 TD’s, 7.8 yards per carry.
He’s over the sophomore slump.

good night…great week to everybody!
zissou - September 20, 2008
I could stand some barbecue ribs, I could. Have a good one, zissou. nt
whills - September 20, 2008
Oh, Colt had a passer rating of 260.15 for this game. Insane.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
He's a dark horse in the Hesiman, everything would have to break just right.
I think they did do a little stat chasing tonight.
whills - September 20, 2008
Just trying to put him on the radar perhaps.
HornPossessed - September 20, 2008
That's a good way to put it. This definitely kept him in the chase
and a prelude to 2009 at the very least.
whills - September 20, 2008
Ruuudy Carpenter is in Holiday Bowl form
the1austin - September 20, 2008
Screw the "Q"
Find something to do with Chiles other than mop up quarterback and ill-formed Q package meanderings. Colt is the QB – end of story. I really feel bad that the defense got scored on after Chiles’ fumble. Sure, Chiles should have been used more last year so he could be ready this year – but, guess what, he wasn’t and he isn’t. Leave Colt in the game as The Quarterback. Find something else to do with Chiles.
bfaut86 - September 20, 2008
Agree, we don't need it. We need a decent backup though that can come in should Colt go down.
And Chiles doesn’t look like he fits the bill.
