Ohio State collectively puts their hands around their necks and proceed to choke themselves, as they cannot convert a first down in the red zone after driving the field. Then to top it off, the miss the easy FG. Tied 0-0 against Minny Soda
They’ve been relying on him to the point that as goes Pryor, so goes Ohio State. He’s physically talented and all that, but he doesn’t know what to do with his current weapons, and he makes a lot of mistakes.
I’ll take “Failed Vince Comparisons” for $200, Alex.
Iowa and Cincinnati and TCU and Boise to keep winning . . .maybe it’s a longshot, but if 2-3 of them are perfect and the SECs all collect a loss, your MNC game could be Texas-Iowa or Texas-Cincy.
I ain’t proud. I think we could beat the SEC champ, but I’d rather play for the title against one of those others.
Nice pickoff of Juice after that. A week ago I was thinking that Illinois was playing football like they’d rather not even be on the field. Juice and a few others don’t look like that today, although they’ll still be hard-pressed to knock off Elliott and Co. today.
PS: Arrelious Benn is NOT going to be the first-round pick he was proclaimed to be.
Tressel found the way to establish the pass with Pryor: isolate the receiver downfield with no one within 15yds. of him, and let Pryor loft it like he’s using a bubble wand.
I think the main problem is indeed the loss of Griffin
But I do think that if there were a QB at all similar to Griffin—fast, good decision-maker—the offense would’ve taken much less of a step back than it has. Put Sherrod Harris on that team right now, and I think they’d be much more competitive.
Looks like a 3-way tie in the ACC Coastal since neither Ga Tech nor MIami are likely to lose again. With no one dominating the Atlantic it looks like Miami will end up in the Orange Bowl and Ga Tech will miss the BCS. Tough to figure out the ACC. Ga Tech loses to Miami who loses to Va Tech who loses to Ga Tech. Sound familiar?
Maybe calls for a new O-coordinator. More than that though, I think the calls may be for fewer than 8 turnovers in a game. Not a typo. 8.
Plus, I think in 2003 Nebraska had an inflated sense of their self-worth. They saw themselves slipping a bit under Solich and thought, “We are elite, we are just as good as UT and OU.” So they made a change. A&M did the same thing with Slocum. Then, Callahan just never meshed personality-wise (plus his teams got even worse). I think at this point, NU is going to be a bit more patient as they realize they can’t go 11-1 every year.
It’s a shame really. Such a proud tradition, and it’s been years since they’ve been relevant. But given we are playing them the next two seasons I guess I should be pleased at the mediocrity.
The reason Callahan was run out of town was that he lost control of the team after completely changing the culture of Nebraska football. He tried to turn it into a finesse team, and he was an outsider. Many thought Pelini was the right hire when Callahan was chosen, and Callahan’s lack of success and change in philosophy only drove more people into that camp.
Really, the Pelini hire was just righting a past wrong. I think people know he needs time to fix those issues.
They've got at least 2 more losses on their schedule.
But 5-3 might be good enough. Kansas has probably 3 more losses (OU, Texas, Tech), Missouri could win out after tonight and finish with 3 losses. Nebraska has at least 1 more loss too, which will give them 3. Iowa State actually has a pretty favorable schedule (they miss UT, OU and Tech and get OSU at home). But it’s Iowa State.
It’s possible that only 1 North team ends with as few as 3 conference losses.
SEC and Pac 10 really seem to have the worst crews
Not that I don’t despise OU with every fiber of my being, but I still can’t get over how obviously screwed-over they were in Eugene a couple years ago.
Thing is, that's indicative of how well their units are playing
Their one problem has been once their offense sniffs the red zone. Otherwise they’re doing very well against the OU offense and moving the ball fairly well on the defense.
He stepped back and took off like it was a draw, and once he got past the LOS, he fired it laterally to the sideline. It looked like a pocket pass, but past the LOS. Yet it was legal because it was lateral. I haven’t seen a lateral employed with that much distance and zip on it. I think Oregon’s cooking up something sort of new.
It’s not super-exciting, because the result is it’s just a lateral out of bounds (technically a fumble), but I think it’s interesting just because it looks like Chip Kelly’s trying to cook up a new bit of grabassery for the offense.
Miami scores to take the lead just before halftime, but forgets that CJ Spiller is one of the best return men in the country and allows Clemson to go in to the locker room with a 14-10 lead and the momentum.
SEC games are praised for their defensive struggles. If they hold off a 9-3 victory, everyone will pat them on the back for winning the defensive grudge match, which CLEARLY deserves the number one ranking
This is what separates the good teams from trash that is Tennessee
This is like the third time Tennessee has driven down on ‘bama and come out with nothing, simply because of stupid penalties, pathetic execution, and poor playcalls. It’s amazing watching some teams just crumble when it’s pressure time.
I have to wonder whether or not pollsters would be able to get over the SEC long enough to let an unbeaten Cincinnati or Boise State go to the championship game over a one- or two-loss SEC team.
I am so glad, after watch McElroy high step celebrate after that hideous run, and having been home the past 3 days with the flu watching The replay of Arkie-FLA and Tebow getting 5 yards on one play and jumping around screaming, that Colt doesnt do that. Maybe its just me and my “anti-tebow” love, but I just cant stand it.
Wow, Jermie Calhoun finally gets to touch the football for the first time (at least that I’ve seen) and promptly fumbles it away. Remember when BON’ers were jumping off rooftops when he picked the Land Thieves over the Good Guys?
I think Texas fans were in a panic because OU signed the #1 and #3 players in Texas that year – Johnson and Calhoun. Neither has made much of an impact yet.
And will not have had to play a team like Bama all season. Remember the trouble Wells gave us for a half last season? Same issue, except two backs and Saban won’t go away from the run.
And that defense may be better than OU, even without Hightower. UT-Bama would be an ugly, low scoring game. The team with the best kicker wins.
a more balanced team. The problem is that there really isn’t a real balanced team on their schedule. LSU is god awful on O, Miss St is out matched. Does that make @Aurburn the best chance of a loss after this?
But his line couldn’t block and his kicker missed a short one and couldn’t get the ball high. It was just a bad idea all around to settle for a 44 yarder.
I’m not entirely sure that Kiffin is playing the upper echelon of the SEC to win. I’m certainly overly cynical, but I think there’s a chane he’s playing to manage expectations until he can recruit/train a decent QB.
His dad’s defense and Eric Berry et. al. will ensure that any losses are respectable and the expectations low, whereas any win against UF or Bama would eliminate what little slack he has in Knoxville. That’s not to say he didn’t want to make the kick, but I think he’ll likely be the least upset person in Knoxville that it wasn’t made.
Wow, lets put the game in our kicker’s hands after he already had one blocked and missed one short because he could not put enough ass into the ball. Tennessee defense played their hearts out and the Tennessee offense completely sucked balls, Bama’s D did not win that game, the Vols offense completely self destructed all day long.
do you let the fattest man in all of college football block that kick? My two year old son has a bigger vertical than his fat ass. Oh wait he probably thought the football was an entire chicken.
Unfreakinbelievable. Its not like Tenn has anything to lose...
Go for the freaking win and play the percentages. Stopping and having that FG kicker do a 44 year kick is not playing the percentages. Especially after he can up short from 47 and had another blocked for not getting any air under the ball.
I know I am not going to get it on in VA., but with the game supposedly half empty I was just wondering if they got enough people to fill the stands or not.
Thank ya Peter

Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Baylor beat OSU, Miss State beat Florida, Oregon State over USC. I think these are far fetched but crazier things have happened.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
I dont think Miss St over UF is that far-fetched.
MSU is 3rd in rushing in the SEC, and UF gave up some decent runs to Arky last week. UF is also missing 3 starters on D, which could spell, U-P-S-E-T.
The Fighting Zooks just took a 7-0 lead on Buckeye Beatin’ Powerhouse Purdue.
kriess - October 24, 2009
I have no confidence in MSU's passing game...
I would load the box if I was UF. UF should of been upset last week. At least the officials have been suspended so hopefully MSU won’t have to contend with them also.

I’ll take “Failed Vince Comparisons” for $200, Alex.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Trying to run a passing offense with Pryor is the first mistake..
He needs to be in a running based offense such as the zone read.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
That would certainly help.
Tressel’s rarely been very good at establishing a passing offense anyway, so you’d think he wouldn’t bother with it with Pryor in there.

At about 1:50 or 1:45 remaining in the first half
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
1:47, actually
It’s not super-exciting, because the result is it’s just a lateral out of bounds (technically a fumble), but I think it’s interesting just because it looks like Chip Kelly’s trying to cook up a new bit of grabassery for the offense.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
nice idea
that would have been a straight dead sprint up the sidelines if that would have worked
Makes team not be able to pinch in their corners on a QB draw
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
Yeah, Interesting...
Had the sideline if they could of executed it. Its a high risk play though, isn’t the ball live if they don’t catch it since it’s a backwards pass?
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Yep, but I guess the sideline mitigates some of that risk
ball’s likely to travel OOB if it doesn’t hit the WR
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
I think that was the reason behind the veloicty
one, it gets the ball there before they can recover and 2 if it goes off his hands or is a miss it will be out of bounds
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
Jayhawks finally on the board. 14-3 now
7Swords of Salat - October 24, 2009
And another FG for Branstetter...14-6.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
57 yarder at that
even he was surprised.
horndude - October 24, 2009
Miami scores to take the lead just before halftime, but forgets that CJ Spiller is one of the best return men in the country and allows Clemson to go in to the locker room with a 14-10 lead and the momentum.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
Awesome
Down with the U
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
kid from KU just kicked a 57yd FG aginst OU to end he half 14-6 OU
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
A little momentum for KU going into the half.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
kinda torn on who I want to win that game
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
always good to see OU go down...but I get your drift...doesnt it suck what college football has come to?
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
They’re hanging in there, that’s for sure.
I’d love to see KU hand OU another conference loss, and then have Nebraska, Okie State, and maybe someone else draw a flag for piling on.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Bama looks OK today...not the juggernaut in the first half we have come to expect
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
For all the hoopla over college QBs from Texas high schools...
…it’s almost embarrassing that McElroy’s one of them.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Bama looks vulnerable to me
I think they lose a game before the SEC championship. Either against LSU or Auburn.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Which, of course, won't diminish 'Bama's rep so much as augment LSU/Auburn's
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Throats get tighter the more games you win.....
TXStampede - October 24, 2009
Gazelles!!!!
Already up 10-1 on the lowly Buffs, Destinee Hooker is a serving machine.
Ashley didn’t start again tonight, that’s really worrying.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
5 service aces for Hooker in the first 10 points. That’s dom i na shun.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
Wow
Bad passing and a ton of service errors and Texas barely squeaks out the first set 25-23.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
Much better: 25-12 in the second set.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
25-15 for the sweep
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
Lets just say bama doesnt win big tonight do you guys think they fall or they stay at top of the bcs
KingMack - October 24, 2009
Depends what Florida does tonight...
If Florida blows out MSU, then they move up. Otherwise, Alabama stays where they are with a win.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
the jockeying of teams based on ONE WEEK is pathetic. The polls are a sham IMHO. I HATE them...seriously.
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
unfortunately,
SEC games are praised for their defensive struggles. If they hold off a 9-3 victory, everyone will pat them on the back for winning the defensive grudge match, which CLEARLY deserves the number one ranking
ArcticLonghorn - October 24, 2009
Tenn in FG range
want to bet Crompton gets sacked again to push them out….
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
Looking for TD
from the fake UT right here…
Horns98 - October 24, 2009
That would put the pressure on bama
Let’s hope…Then put the game on McElroy’s shoulders.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
would love to see it
them watch for 3 PI and a Personal Foul on the last drive of the game to see Bama win 12-10
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
lol....
Watch out how the official crews ruin the game here….
Horns98 - October 24, 2009
Then have Lunquist and Daniels talk about...
How great Bama is for pulling it out at the end with the assistance of the officials to keep the drive alive.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
1st down!!!
Horns98 - October 24, 2009
I hate CBS SEC jerkfests...so annoying.
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009

realmccoy - October 24, 2009
Outstanding run there by Hardesty
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Two UTenn penalties in 3 plays
why wait for the Bama drive?
horndude - October 24, 2009

realmccoy - October 24, 2009

Horns98 - October 24, 2009
Please note...the refs will no longer be calling penalties on Alabama for the rest of the game.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
lol….
Horns98 - October 24, 2009
would be interesting to see if any are called on them...
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Some other top teams looking solid today...
Cincy up 41-10; Oregon up 36-12; PennSt up 32-10. Horns can’t afford to start slow or look sloppy.
ArcticLonghorn - October 24, 2009
OU now up 35-6
ArcticLonghorn - October 24, 2009
good grief!
ArcticLonghorn - October 24, 2009
that is a big fella!
ArcticLonghorn - October 24, 2009
This is what separates the good teams from trash that is Tennessee
This is like the third time Tennessee has driven down on ‘bama and come out with nothing, simply because of stupid penalties, pathetic execution, and poor playcalls. It’s amazing watching some teams just crumble when it’s pressure time.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
If Alabama and Florida have one loss at the end of the season and
we win out. You think us vs. Cincy in the Championship? I don’t see Iowa winning out.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
I've been wondering about that.
I have to wonder whether or not pollsters would be able to get over the SEC long enough to let an unbeaten Cincinnati or Boise State go to the championship game over a one- or two-loss SEC team.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Did the announcer just say
that Alabama just picked up their first first down of the ballgame? Surely that’s not right.
adt2 - October 24, 2009 via mobile
Of the half
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
Its Lunquist, I don't know if he is even watching the game half the time..
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Nice Block by the Officials there...lol..
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Nice tackle by the umpire
adt2 - October 24, 2009 via mobile
HAHAHA!!!!
I am so glad, after watch McElroy high step celebrate after that hideous run, and having been home the past 3 days with the flu watching The replay of Arkie-FLA and Tebow getting 5 yards on one play and jumping around screaming, that Colt doesnt do that. Maybe its just me and my “anti-tebow” love, but I just cant stand it.
kirk1005 - October 24, 2009
I don't see Tennessee putting up 9 points here in the 4th...
Looks like the field goal fest is over.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Yeah, I think that's it
Tennessee blew three really good chances to get closer or take the lead. I feel bad for Monte Kiffin’s defense.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
Yep, would be a 3 point game if Tennessse had a field goal kicker..
cj43 - October 24, 2009
so...
4 FG’s…
Think they will be lauded as a great offense held down by a great Ten defense?
I sure do. To bad Ten has no QB.
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
I'm no football genius...
…but it appears to me that Alabama sort of sucks.
adt2 - October 24, 2009 via mobile
how about a nice quick strike here...bama has poor pass defense
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Wow, Jermie Calhoun finally gets to touch the football for the first time (at least that I’ve seen) and promptly fumbles it away. Remember when BON’ers were jumping off rooftops when he picked the Land Thieves over the Good Guys?
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
UT didn't even offer him, right?
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Correct
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
I think Texas fans were in a panic because OU signed the #1 and #3 players in Texas that year – Johnson and Calhoun. Neither has made much of an impact yet.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
Man Bama is hard to watch...just blue collar trenches football...boring, but effective
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Guess it depends on your taste
I’m a fan, but I would like them to lose enough there’s no chance UT has to play them.
learned hand - October 24, 2009
I would love to play them...
Our Defense is stout…bring on Ingram
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Our defense is stout, but slightly undersized
And will not have had to play a team like Bama all season. Remember the trouble Wells gave us for a half last season? Same issue, except two backs and Saban won’t go away from the run.
And that defense may be better than OU, even without Hightower. UT-Bama would be an ugly, low scoring game. The team with the best kicker wins.
learned hand - October 24, 2009
I think they will struggle aginst
a more balanced team. The problem is that there really isn’t a real balanced team on their schedule. LSU is god awful on O, Miss St is out matched. Does that make @Aurburn the best chance of a loss after this?
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
If "blue collar" means "stagnant," then yes.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
ND stopped at the 1 after deciding not to go for tie
Ohio Horn - October 24, 2009

BrooklynHorn - October 24, 2009

Ohio Horn - October 24, 2009

Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
roughing the Kicker
lol
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
they did and I am over kickers and their oscars...hit em hard next time...real hard
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
The blocked punt seems to me the least profitable risk in football
I’ve never seen any numbers, but I could swear for every block you get, you incur like 4 roughing penalties.
BrooklynHorn - October 24, 2009
Yeah, if the punter falls its a penalty no matter if they are touched or not..
cj43 - October 24, 2009
FUMBLE!!!
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
good heavens...their oline is deplorable or just dead tired
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
I love hardesty...
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Receiver has first and goes backwards... tick tick, tick tick
Not a lot of smart players for the Vols, huh,
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
I'm still amazed by the improvement over last season
Tenn was a terrible team last year, and this year the defense is stout and disciplined. Crompton almost looks marginal, which is a huge improvement.
learned hand - October 24, 2009
They play at home and no TD for Bama for the whole game….Who would have thought that?
Horns98 - October 24, 2009
and the only TD comes from a lackluster Tenn team
Ohio Horn - October 24, 2009
Monte Kiffin?
horndude - October 24, 2009

Miami game is a slugfest
Clemson scores to take back the lead, then Harris unleashes a bomb to put the Canes up 34-31.
patienthornsfan - October 24, 2009
I fricking despise Miami
Clemson shouldn’t be having this kind of problem against a mediocre QB like that.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
TD TENN!!! 1:20 left
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
TD!!!!
Please get the on side kick!!!!
Horns98 - October 24, 2009

15-20 yds more
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
they ned to get to the 20 at the very leasdt
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Wow, this is crazy.
Can the kicker redeem himself.
Of course, that false start doesn’t help… another one.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
false start... amazing. Who would have thought that

laxtonto - October 24, 2009

Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Official crews @ work once again!
Horns98 - October 24, 2009
They need to get to the 20 get in the range of this kicker.
He is awful. Even then its a crap shoot.

kirk1005 - October 24, 2009

Horns98 - October 24, 2009
why on earth did they set up a 44 yarder
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
Atrocious clock management from Kiffin
Awful. Just stupid.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
for the win....
don’t miss this one
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
They should of ran another 2 plays to get it closer
I question that decision..
cj43 - October 24, 2009
makes no sense...
Mulliganville - October 24, 2009
They are acting like they have an All American Field Goal kicker...
This guy sucks. Has Kiffin not seen him kick today?
cj43 - October 24, 2009
I agree
Unless he’s that scared of a pick.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009

wow blocked again by cody
EYESOFTEJAS - October 24, 2009

Sounds about right in the rock’em, sock’em, too-tough-for-anyone SEC.
burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
Good kicker
Just amazing SEC defense. Hunter would not even be able to hit extra points.
JohnsonUT - October 24, 2009
Stupid stupid

ryanlionrah - October 24, 2009
I had a feeling that was going to happen
That was happens when you’re a pathetic, worthless coward Lane Kiffin. What a fool, what a fool.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
Haha, tell us how you really feel TES
learned hand - October 24, 2009
Sorry, I'm just annoyed
Kiffin goes into the SEC talking big and acting tough, and he managed the end of that game in the most scared manner possible, and it cost his team.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
I think it's a no win, trust crompton or special teams
But yeah, he squandered one of his dad’s finer performances
learned hand - October 24, 2009
I would agree with it if he had a good kicker
But his line couldn’t block and his kicker missed a short one and couldn’t get the ball high. It was just a bad idea all around to settle for a 44 yarder.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
I tend to agree with Meyer on Kiffin right now
I’m not entirely sure that Kiffin is playing the upper echelon of the SEC to win.
That’s not to say he didn’t want to make the kick, but I think he’ll likely be the least upset person in Knoxville that it wasn’t made.
learned hand - October 24, 2009
Makes you think how big H. Lawrence was last week.
EYESOFTEJAS - October 24, 2009
so... once again
Does Bama get credit for their dominating D? To me i looked like lackluster O on Tenn part
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
I was thinking the same thing thank God for Lawrence
IbleedBurntorange - October 24, 2009
Yep, he was clutch against OU.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
That should have been a penalty too
On Cody for taking his helmet off. But of course that won’t happen with these SEC officials.
TheElusiveShadow - October 24, 2009
They will just get suspended next week and a slap on the wrist.
EYESOFTEJAS - October 24, 2009

laxtonto - October 24, 2009
Yeah
South may miss announcing several of the Pirate TDs. Just not the same as watching the misery. Reading along on TexAgs helps though.
horndude - October 24, 2009
7-0 Tech
3 minutes in…
40AS - October 24, 2009
Is Lane Kiffin even more stupid that Greg Davis?
Wow, lets put the game in our kicker’s hands after he already had one blocked and missed one short because he could not put enough ass into the ball. Tennessee defense played their hearts out and the Tennessee offense completely sucked balls, Bama’s D did not win that game, the Vols offense completely self destructed all day long.
HornsRiverine - October 24, 2009
Kiffin is a flippin idiot
7Swords of Salat - October 24, 2009
Tenn misses 3 FG's to give Alabama the win..
That’s the real headline but you’ll just hear how tough the SEC is and how great their special teams is.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Listening to Holtz and Mays
crediting the defense, no words about the O
laxtonto - October 24, 2009

Its the SEC…
kirk1005 - October 24, 2009

seth78 - October 24, 2009
How the hell
do you let the fattest man in all of college football block that kick? My two year old son has a bigger vertical than his fat ass. Oh wait he probably thought the football was an entire chicken.
HornsRiverine - October 24, 2009
should have cut him at the snap
laxtonto - October 24, 2009
You can blame that loss on Lane Kiffin
No way do you shut down the offense with 30 seconds left that far out with that FG kicker. That has to be the stupidest thing I have ever seen.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
I do blame the loss on Kiffin,
him and his self destructing offense. His dad should bend him over his knee and whoop his ass for blowing the game for his defense.
HornsRiverine - October 24, 2009
Unfreakinbelievable. Its not like Tenn has anything to lose...
Go for the freaking win and play the percentages. Stopping and having that FG kicker do a 44 year kick is not playing the percentages. Especially after he can up short from 47 and had another blocked for not getting any air under the ball.
cj43 - October 24, 2009
Lane "Play to lose close" Kiffin
Iam beginning to think Urban Meyer was right saying Kiffin isn’t playing to win.
cj43 - October 24, 2009

burntorangehorn - October 24, 2009
