Postgame Celebration Thread: Texas Beats A&M 49-39, Finishes 12-0

To the postseason we go... Undefeated, with two titles to win.

Tonight, we celebrate Texas' 12-0 regular season. There is much to be thankful for.

Hook 'em...

Colt made sure Heisman voters took notice tonight.

OH THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU!
Anyone want to help me finish that?
All the livelong day.
Sounds like "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad"
It's a classic though.
the eyes of Texas are upon you!

you cannot get away!

Do not think you can escape them,

at night or early in the morn…

The eyes of Texas are upon you...
Till Gabriel blows his horn!
that was sweet
Favorite part of the game perhaps:

Colt’s 2 yard loss on the final kneel put him I believe to 476 yards (VY’s Rose Bowl total)

Not to be that guy

But it was 467 yards :)

Damnit

You’re entirely right. I should’ve known that.

also not to be that guy, but according to ESPN

Colt had 479 total

This is the worst night of my life!!!!

Heh

Could be worse

You could be an aggy.

I wish Colt could play defense.
He Did Once in a Very Important Situation
Tackle of the year!
Defense has become an issue

Dline struggled greatly tonight against below avg aggie oline. Inconsistent plays of secondary almost cost us. Muck had the worst game I’ve ever seen him play.

Since we got that out of the way. Colt was phenomenal Malcolm was awesome(although he has some drops..) receivers were great and props to j Johnson he had a career game.

Let’s celebrate but time for coach boom to get to work

Defense

It seems as if Curtis Brown has been exposed the last two weeks. And for some reason we are no longer able to get any pressure on the QB and that’s been an issue.

I agree. I think curtis gambles too much at times

Chykies miscue is absolutely inexcusable. Gideon can’t cover anyone in slot.
I dunno what’s happening w our dline. we are no longer able to put good enough pressure w 4 men rush, which we were able to do earlier in the season. Again Jarod played excellent he threw good balls and didn’t make many errors

Gideon was way too slow

and it was hard to understand what happened with Chykie. Dude, when a defensive back blitzes, you probably aren’t going to have help over the top. He needs to get it together mentally because this has happened far too many times this year.

I agree. I think curtis gambles too much at times

Chykies miscue is absolutely inexcusable. Gideon can’t cover anyone in slot.

I don't think Nebraska's offense will give you that much trouble, honestly.
More of a problem

against Florida/Alabama. The good thing is that neither team has the same depth at receiver or quarterbacks who can stand in the pocket and deliver the ball downfield like Johnson did tonight.

They may not have to

if they can just line up and run the ball.

?

Besides Johnson on some designed runs and some scrambles, Texas didn’t give up much on the ground besides the TD run to Michael.

Tebow the runner doesn't scare me nearly as much as Johnson

Johnson was just incredible tonight, he played lights out

I suspect Johnson

is quite a bit faster. The thing is that Texas wouldn’t have to divert the resources to the perimeter to deal with Florida because they don’t have much passing except for Cooper, so that leaves more players who can take the middle of the field away from Tebow. In other words, exactly what Tennessee did.

More concerned

about Bama getting in pro with MUCH better offensive lineman and a better back in Ingram and just moving the football. A&M is good on offense, but Bama is much, much more physical.

This.

I am significantly more afraid of Bama than Florida.

Their I-Formation scares the living daylights out of me, especially with the lack of pressure and penetration that the D-line seems to be getting here lately.

I wouldnt worry about it

A&M spread the field and shows lots of 4/5 WRs sets. Obviously you cant do that with I formation. Muck and Keenan had way too much ground to cover as well as spying on their QB.

Yea

Neither team throws like Johnson…it’ll be a totally different challenge

Nor does either team have a tandem like Tannehill and Fuller
Plus EZ

Impressed with him tonight.

Strange to think A&M is in the conversation for best top three receivers in the conference
Though I think Kirkendoll, Williams and Shipley have that honor in hand. ;) nt
Nor do I

They present the opposite problem of A&M: Great defense, especially up front and little offense

Yep, I wasn't expecting the defense to be so exposed tonight...

Atleast it happened this week and not in the National Championship game. Boom should be able to get their attention now for the rest of the season. Could be the best thing that happened to them. I still think we are tough against the run but can be beat with a good passing game.

Colt running
Colt outrunning entire aggie defense that's just pure awesome!
My Aggie friends are flooding my facebook feed

with declarations of how ‘proud’ they are of their team.

lol little brother mentality.

This is a time

for moral victories in the Aggie football program.

What percentage of the BCS do moral victories count?
If I'm an Aggie

fan I’m pretty excited about this team. Clearly moving in the right direction. They need players and right now they have NOTHING on defense

Yes and no

A&M has a history of playing UT exceptionally well, particularly at Kyle, but they don’t seem to be able to carry that progress over.

Their offense will be very good next year though

They’ll still have Johnson and their RBs and Fuller and Tannehill. Just need a defense.

My point

was that their issue is personnel based. If they can recruit and it looks promising thus far, they seem to have the staff in place to make some headway.

Maybe, I'm cynical about Aggie long term success when their rivals are at least competent
Von Miller

who might leave after this season. Had a better game than Sergio.

He has better pass rush moves than Kindle also

That seems to be the major difference in their games

Might have a better first step as well.
He could go before Kindle in the draft, and aggies will take that as vindication of their entire defense
That's what Charlie weis said after they beat Hawaii last yr

Lmao

I agree

This very young team could have a great year in 2010. This will help the Big 12 overall. But damn, I sure don’t want to play that game again.

I said this very thing to my brother

This will be just like 2005 when they were so amped about coming within 11 of us and acted like they won. Same old Aggie.

How long before they start talking about winning the MNC next year?
Hard to celebrate right now

after the stress of that game. Boom is gonna be angry in the film room tomorrow or whenever they watch it.

Here to eat my crow about A&M's offense

I didn’t think they had a prayer of getting close to 40 yards, but they did. Still feels damn good to beat the Gomers after all the shit they’ve been talking. I was forced to watch this game with a couple of Aggies and one marveled incessantly about Colt outrunning the Aggie D.

Even though my prediction on the A&M offense was wrong, Nebraska doesn’t have near the offense A&M does. And I feel certain Will Muschamp is about to lay down the law when the team returns to Austin.

A great ending to a great Thanksgiving. Hook ’em.

40 points I mean
All negativity aside...

I’m relieved we get 10ish days to prepare for the Big 12 game. We should be ready, rested, and healthy so no excuses for that one.

There may be no 'great" teams this year

…just several good ones. When UT played USC, UT had just beaten CO in the Big 12 Ch game, 70-3. USC had beaten 10th ranked UCLA 69 to something on the same day. Both those teams have over 20 alums playing for pay.
There are no teams like that this year, and FSU could make a rough finish for FL while Auburn could be tough for AL.

Ironic

Last year you’d say there were at least 2 or 3 great teams but nobody in the BCS conferences went udefeated. This year we may see 4 BCS teams go undefeated but nobody really is that great

It's a down year in college football

Some of these teams might be great, but we don’t know because after Georgia Tech and maybe Pitt, it’s a sh!tshow of suck.

The Secondary Needs To Get Healthy
I Was Shocked D Never Stepped Up in 4th Qtr
Me too

Actually, I was shocked that there were no halftime adjustments, at least none that I could see. But I’ll say this, the defense has carried this team all year. For once, it was the offense’s turn, and they got it done.

Yep, I was waiting for the D to flip the "On" switch...

Unfortunately, it was one of those days where they had nothing in the tank.

Me too

I was shocked D didn’t turn up the heat in the second half. Much credit to A&M offense. They overperformed.

Don't think Muschamp

trusted the coverage from the defensive backs. Especially Gideon I don’t think he wanted to put on an island against anyone.

Holy shit.

Flew 10 hours today. Landed at 8 pm east coast time. Went to dinner with inlaws at a restaraunt with no TV. Got home in 3rd Q. Had to watch the game in charleston sc with drunk ahole brother in law who just happens to like the aggies . Holy shit.

you weren't in south carolina

your plane crashed and you are in hell… but the horns win there too. Even hell isn’t that terrible.

Anyone else concerned with Muschamp's ability to ready the troops?

They weren’t that great against KU and tonight they were freaking HORRIBLE. JJ had a magnificent game and threw the ball brilliantly, but guys were wide open and he faced very little pressure in the 2nd half. Something is up.

I'm more concerned about special teams

Our punting sucks, and our coverage is awful.

And Ship has been unreliable on punt returns lately
Really Not His Fault Tonight Though
Yeah. Initially, I thought he messed up

But it was just a flukey play. You can’t prepare for 15 yard punts.

New Plan=Block Everything

Joking. Maybe.

I'm down with that.

even Brewster almost got to one today.

Terrible

The kickoff coverage was beyond bad tonight. I’m surprised Mack didn’t try some squib kicks or just onside kick the damn thing. Even if A&M recovered it wouldn’t have been much of a different in field position (not totally serious about the onside kicks, but man the coverage was bad).

And that's 2 games in a row
Defense

was a huge problem tonight. Luckily Nebraska does not have the offense to hang with the ’Horns.

After getting through last season

I can’t say I ever thought this Texas team would ever have problems like that against any team but the elite in the country. After this game, though, I think the Aggies clearly have the capability to be an elite offensive team.

They're 11th

in the country in total offense. I’m surprised they scored 39 points, but I thought they could get into the mid-20’s. They have some guys.

Looking at the drive chart, they really took advantage of field position

And having a guy like Fuller to win some jump balls makes them very dangerous in the red zone.

That may have been

the most shocking thing. Until the TD return, A&M (who’s special teams are awful was handling Texas in that department).

Greg Davis

Earned his keep tonight. Game plan was more or less fantastic and execution was solid nearly the entire game

Agreed

Save some stalling in the second half when he got away from the run game, I thought GD was fine all night.

Yup.

Didn’t like the empty set either — I was worried about using that and A&M did exactly what I would do by blitzing just about every time and forcing short passes.

Good Point

Those first 2 drives after the smash the ball down your throat Newton TD drive was a little ridiculous. However, he was near perfect.

And if GD was the DC he'd be getting murdered

So he deserves credit tonight while Muschamp should be questioned.

Someone

will comment about GD screwing something up. Just wait. It’s like clockwork around here.

Correct. When ever he screws up

we comment on it. Like clockwork.

The offense leads the nation in points or is near it and

and the guy is 2nd guessed more than anybody.

True on both counts

But he earns the scrutiny. Watch the games.

I guess if

you call the plays, the UT offense will be much better.

Great response. nt
I think it's a fine response

Because Greg Davis does not deserve half the criticism he gets in here.

I disagree

I think he did a great job tonight, however, I think he deserves more than half of the criticism he gets here. But even if I didn’t think that… the “You think you can do better” response is not what I would call “fine”.

Well

the point is what makes you qualified to determine Greg Davis suitability for the job? Did you watch 30 hours of Aggie film this week? Do you watch the kids practice?

He makes mistakes. So does everyone else in every game that’s played. You think you’re going to get one coverage out of a certain set and you get another. You get through the play and move on.

By that line of reasoning

we shouldn’t criticize anyone for anything.

Should I

criticize a lawyer’s work because I’ve watched a few episodes of Law and Order?

The results are what you should be judged by. His results are continually excellent.

So we just shouldn't criticize anyone

about anything… until we lose? Seems like it would be too late then. But hey, whatever you say.

Fact is

Many on here make the assumption that Davis is the one makinga ll the calls on offense, determining whether to go conservative or aggressive in certain situations, etc. Also, few give Davis any credit for offensive success, while most criticize him for any offensive shortcomings. That’s the opposite of how it is with Muschamp, and it’s ridiculous.

Agreed that Muschamp is still

in a honeymoon period to some here. And I also believe that some can go too far in their criticism of GD. I think if you check the history, neither of those extreme views apply to me.

I disagree

Don't think that is extreme

I said he is not a “great” offensive mind. And I do think that VY’s greatness hid that. I also think if not for VY he would have been gone by now.

Never called him trash or implied a monkey could do better. Nothing too extreme. Just expressed rationally my opinion that he is a weak link on our great team. At least, that is the tone in which it was written.

In fact, these are great examples to prove my point. Read my responses and compare my statements to others on the thread.

A little surprised by you Wells.

Not a great offensive mind?

Even though Texas is very consistently among the top-scoring teams in the nation on offense?

Yes

Although again, I thought our offense was great at A&M. But yes, I think we have been great despite GD as often as because of him.

This is why the earlier post
What earlier post?

your reply with the links? I don’t understand.

What was Davis doing going away from the run in the second half? Only partially joking.

The difference is this is an aberration for Muschamp. There is not a pattern yet.

HIs plan

to cover the inside receivers in the first half was not good. Wonder if Aaron Williams was limited in the number of snaps he could play today.

Yep, GD finally decided to call plays like VY was at QB tonight

I guess this zone read was what they have been saving all season. They must of wanted to keep Colt healthy for most of the season before bringing it out of the garage. I thought the zone read offense gave us the best chance to win.

Based on what

Colt said after the game, I think they fell into it based on what A&M was doing.

This season has all been about keeping Colt healthy and doing just enough to make sure we win...

If we smoke A&M early, I doubt we run Colt much at all. Now, when we make it to the National Championship where we need to lay it all out on the line. I guarantee you will see a lot of zone read.

Big Part of This

Was a talented team, making one game their entire season, and playing absolutely out of their minds, on a short preparation week.

No worries – beat Nebraska and it all works out.

Yeah, but

many of JJ’s throws were lollipops that should have been knocked down or intercepted. That is the one thing I don’t get about our D.

defense

To everyone complaining about not getting pressure with 4, I think the D line was really told to maintain their lanes rather than aggressively pursue JJ to limit the scramble yardage. TAMU was able to run off the LBs though leaving the middle open for a few big runs by JJ. I wouldn’t be too concerned. Against less mobile QBs from the SEC (I include Tebow here) expect more blitzes and more domination.

Tebow not mobile?

Tebow is a very effective runner.

Thankful

So thankful for this win.

i know its blasphemy to question Coach Boom

and i know you want to drop as many as possible to defend the pass and johnson from running, but it seemed like most times when we brought more than 3 rushers we had some success…

it doesnt matter now, we got the win, but just saying…we were getting marched on, so why not try something new

Defense Was Clueless and Powerless Against Aggie - Nuff Said
How close to 70-3 will we come next week?
Not Sure AJ Was 100% Tonight
not even close IMHO
Nope, I don't think so....

He looked a step slower than usual.

my favorite thing about this team might be...

our ability to get non offensive TDs when we need them the most

it seems to really crush the opposing teams morale

plus they are awesome to watch

Goodwin Return = Thing of Beauty
Nice to see Goodwin

get up in the wedge after trying to bust everything outside. Thought that was by far the best wedge blocking in quite some time and the results speak for themselves. Plus, watching that fat little kicker try to chase Marquise was pretty awesome.

doughboy

haha

Kicker

A friend of mine made the comment that at least he doesn’t have to be worried about being harassed because being that short and chunky no one will believe he plays football

Love Texas Recruiting of the "3 Star Athlete"

McCoy, Goodwin, Achos, Newton, Gideon etc.

Kind of ridiculous

that Goodwin was three stars, especially how he came in and did so well running routes, catching the football, and overall doing what he need to do.

We Need An Adjustment in Secondary

No use having 27 and 21 on field at the same time. Time to get Marcus Davis minutes?

Really disappointed in Nolan Brewster

on that touchdown to Morrow, he didn’t even go for the ball. Nice job wrapping up, but that doesn’t mean much in the end zone.

Exactly what I was thinking. nt whills
Injuries and Academic problems are what puts those two on the field...

If things went according to plan this season, they would both be capable backups. If we knew ahead of time Scott would of been out for the season, I bet we move AJ to safety before the season.

AJ

probably too valuable as a nickel back prototype. But he could definitely play safety and that’s something Muschamp might look at next season if Earl leaves and Marcus Davis steps up.

makes me freak out a little to think of life without Earl

but i realize this is a very real reality

I'm trying to prepare myself.
Robert Joseph may have helped too
we have so many good kickers on this team

is there not one of them that can consistently blast the ball into the endzone? not sure if we are TRYING to place the kick inside the 10 and limit the return but if so thats really coming back to bite us in the ass

Did Marcus Davis Burn His Shirt This Year?
Yep, they have given him some work at corner in blowouts.

Is he capable of playing safety?

Loved the drive to close the game

Was afraid GD would run straight up the middle 3 times and punt. Agros apparently thought so too. Pass to Williams all but guaranteed another set of downs and almost sealed the deal. Surprising aggressiveness.

So is this where everyone bashes Muschamp?

I imagine it’s unlikely. I think it’s just a fact of life that on the best teams, each side of the ball, or even special teams, are able to bail out another unit and come away with the win.

Good game, fellas. atm sure came to play. It shouldn’t have been that close, but it was, and I hope it’s a wakeup call for some things they need to address in the next nine days.

Statistics Are For Losers - We Won
Recognizing that a game was too close for comfort?

That’s not even getting into statistics. That’s something winners have to do.

WM’s quote would seem unfitting.

Does nebraska play this weekend?
Colorado

tomorrow

Yes. Against Colorado.
Saw us only rush 3 more times than I ever have

What was that about?

Colt On ESPN - Great Representative for Great University
Kirkendoll

Last four games:

23 catches, 248 yards, 5 tds…Losing Shipley is gonna hurt, but the young WRs are really stepping up (to say nothing of Malcolm Williams)

That's been huge.

He’s really stepped up to the challenge from the coaches after his horrific performance in the OU game. Great to see.

Losing Shipley is going to REALLY hurt

The Kirkendoll TD was nice, but I’m not sure he gets the 1st down against a competent secondary.

I Thought I Saw Ship Return
Agree

Cannot stress how much I dread losing Shipley…shouldn’t he get a seventh year due to the hardship of the first six?

His roommate won't be there.

According to logic, he will only be half as productive without his roommate.

I'll take 700+ yds. and 6+ TDs from the slot receiver...

which I imagine will end up being half of Ship’s final production.

Not to undervalue Ship

but I’m thinking him going at the same time as McCoy won’t hurt as much because it’s their chemistry that is so dangerous. GG will hopefully develop chemistry with the new guys. If Colt was coming back without Ship I would be a lot more worried.

But I will miss him a lot.

GG hearts Marquise
If he can find a way to heart Malcolm and Kirk we could be in business
Spring and summer work will be big.
And don't forget Collins coming back
I don't disagree

but I think he’s just a much better pure WR than the other guys. He also takes pressure off of those guys to give them more space.

Anyone Notice if Lamar Returned?

It didn’t look too bad.

Didn't have a defensive snap after that.
Didn't have a chance

Missed FG then never went on defense…looked like the wind was knocked out of him.

I Thought Ship Came Back?
We are A/M's big rival so we have to expect they will bring their best

Hard to do our best against a team we are expected to beat by 3 tds. We won but identified some flaws. Always best that that happens against lesser competition. We have a big one coming up against Alabama soon. We have to be ready to tackle their RB. I hear he is ok.

Beat Nebraska!

3rd down conversions by atm were an abomination.

Great catches in traffic
Great catches along the sideline
Great runnning and throwing by Johnson

3rd down situations and kickoffs were responsible for more facepalms tonight...
JJ was right on the money all night
From here out

If NU, UF, or Alabama has WRs and a QB on their roster who can do that (and they’ve been hiding it extremely well if they do), we’re completely screwed against any of them. But in the real world our future opponents are all defensive-based. Jerrod Johnson played as well as any Texas opposing QB has played in the 17 years I’ve been following the team. Fortunately, A+Ms corners are just about as bad as their WRs are good.

I’ve already booked my MNC tix. The team is 12-0 Big XII South Champs, and beat OU and A+M. I’m very thankful tonight.

HOOK EM HORNS!

Julio Jones

He’s not as otherworldly as some make him out to be, but he’s at least very talented, and he has made big performances at times. Nebraska has a couple of guys who can make a team pay, particularly Niles Paul. UF has the same old story: lots of quick role-players.

but McElroy is no JJ.

That's for sure

McElroy is one of the worst starting QBs for a national title contender I have ever seen.

great game

Keep the focus on next opponent (nebraska) and we will be in Pasadena. It is all about the wins baby!!

Hook em

Fuck it

we won, however ugly it might have been. the defensive performance was an anamoly. let’s regroup for the huskers. happy thanksgiving everybody; we’re 12-0!

so it sounds like it might be 50/50

mix between longhorn and husker fans next weekend in Dallas? not sure how much this matters

This will be the biggest Nebraska game

in 8 years and they almost always travel well.

I am so glad this happened tonight

Besides the fact I think I had more heart attacks than I want to have in one game, “that makes a bakeers dozen, todd” and that I think I may have invented a whole bunch of new cuss words. Texas’ D needed to have a bad game, it never fails no matter how good you are you always have to have that one bad game, you just gotta hope that you can come out on top. They did and this defense is still one of the tops in the nation, I guarantee you that Muschamp will have the D ready to play against Nebraska

The third-team defense

and walk ons should be able to hold an offense like Nebraska out of the end zone.

2nd team couldn't hold Baylor out
Baylor O might be better than Nebraska's

it’s the husker D that is scary.

Helu

They have Helu, who is pretty good, but Pelini’s showing little confidence in the QB situation since the week he first started pulling Lee. Also, they’re a lot less dangerous at running the ball since losing Castille. He wasn’t a workhorse, but he provided power that no one else on the offense has.

Baylor's offense might be better than Nebraska.

I am exaggerating a little bit, though.

Agreed

Just expressing my concern over the D from the last couple games. Seems like we’re playing a lot more bend but don’t break recently and it hasn’t worked as well.

Boom is worried about giving up big plays

if he blitzes. Against Nebraska it will be much more about stopping the running game.

I don't think that's

an exaggeration at all. I’ve seen them twice. They stink on offense. They might have the worst QB situation of any BCS team (even Colorado)

I would take Hansen over Lee.
D will be ready in Dallas

The "Champ will get their attention this week – be assured of that. They will knock that freaking N off of nebraska’s helmet. Lee may get decapitated.

Hadn't seen any previous games from aggie

I wonder if there were many new wrinkles to thier offense. Thier execution was undeniably a step up i’m sure.

They were so hot and cold all year

Everyone forgets they torched Texas Tech earlier in the year and remember their debacles against KState and Oklahoma.

They were hot tonight

like they have been off and on all year. Glad we held them off. Also glad we get them in Austin next year.

nothing I saw

Just better execution. Not at all like 2007 where they completely changed their offense on us.

"Moral victory" posts already appearing on texags.com

What a bunch of flaming losers.

They have a lot to be happy about tonight

Next year’s game is in Austin, but that offense is worrying to me. Especially if Johnson can continue to play well and Sherman starts getting the offensive line into better shape, which he has clearly already done.

Agreed

39 points, Johnson was very efficient. a lot to be excited about for a 6-6 team. not to mention unsuspecting livestock.

Aggie showed a lot of speed on the field

They were fast. I’m going to be wondering about this game next year, they’ve got a talented group.

I don’t think our defense had seen anything like it. I’m glad they got the wake up call.

Our offense answered when they had to, makes up for earlier in the season when the D was holding games down.

don't really agree

Only EZ is fast — even Johnson was more shifty than fast.

oops Michael is fast too
Fuller is fast

Michael is fast. Gray is fast. They have speed on offense — that’s not their problem. The speed on defense is a much bigger problem and lack of bodies in the trenches.

That's what surprised me the most

There was a hell of a lot of speed on A&M’s offense. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like it this year and it had our guys taking bad angles and missing ankle tackles in the backfield all night.

I'm not sure that defense could compete

against a quality I-AA outfit. That Kirkendoll TD—they didn’t touch him. No speed and no hips. It explains why their special teams suck. They don’t have any decent athletes and if they don’t execute nearly perfectly they are screwed.

What's the deal with the CBs?

Aaron Williams is starting to look very, very human. The Browns are making a lot of mistakes. It almost seems as though they’re regressed.

Not sure

With Williams it’s probably because he’s a bit dinged up. With the Browns — it’s clearly mental with Chykie, who didn’t give up much other than the big play. Curtis, not sure about him. Having some trouble tackling and getting caught in between, but also giving a bit too big of a cushion and not closing on the ball particularly well.

It could be regression or it could be that these two groups of receivers are the best Texas has faced this season.

curtis seems to be questioning himself

go for the interception or play the man.

Chykie definitely improved after that first big play he surrendered

With AW, he just seems to mis-time his jumps a lot recently. Curtis has been whiffing on tackles all over the place, which really hurts. Here’s hoping they figure out some of these issues soon.

They were not helped out much

by our lack of pass rush.

Injuries and Different cut of receiver

Briscoe and Fuller both got the guys to bite on double moves with some regularity. Keep in mind, as gifted as A Will is, he’s a banged up sophomore matching up against future NFL guys for the first time all season.

Was this UT's first 100yd. rushing performance?

Or didn’t CJ have one earlier, like against Mizzou or Okie Lite?

The problem with Aggy

Is that it’s kinda hard to really hate these guys. Fran was a douche, same with Tellus, McGee, and the lot of those guys. But this team? Sherman seems like a generally likeable individual, Johnson is compelling, I like the way Michael plays, etc. Screw them for that.

Absolutely

What a difference in how the team acted toward the Beasley injury from how the 2006 and 2007 Aggies acted in similar situations. Good on Sherman for cleaning up some of that garbage.

Amazing

What happens when you get rid of trash like the Bennetts, Kellen Heard, and Bush League Stephen McGee.

I really wanted to try and like McGee, but he made it really hard

Agree.

Really impressed with Johnson tonight — he was every bit as good as Colt. Definitely would have been nice to have recruited Michael and EZ was a guy we took a hard look at as well but decided to stick with Timmons because of the numbers on the roster.

Bite Your Tongue - Colt No Interceptions - Minor Point But the Difference Maker
who is "EZ"?
Uzoma Nwachukwu
You're just doing that to make him try to spell the name aren't you
Uzoma Nwachukwu
I've been calling him "Uzi"

Kid is just explosive.

Michael's recruitment

In another thread I was talking with a fellow about Michael. I was under the impression that a big reason Mack didn’t recruit him was the academics, with the promise to Whaley another factor, but not as big. What was the situation there?

Promise to Whaley the biggest.

Other than that, there are rumors about academics or something but nothing substantiated as far as I can tell.

Mack Did Promise Whaley He Would Be Only RB - Bad Move IMHO
Especially if Newton hangs on to the job
I Really Do Think Newton is the answer if we give him 20+ carries a game
I'm afraid Mack might give Whaley every chance to win the job next year.
See A Lot of Henry Melton in him
I agree

Plus my overall fan experiences with aggies have been so much better – good-natured ribbing but always nice. I sat in the aggie student section in an orange VY jersey in 2005 and everyone was so nice and friendly to me. Compare that to being pushed out of a taxi by OU fans after the loss in 2007 and told “I guess y’all are losing a lot of things today” or the way a Tech fan in my law school class sought me out to talk trash and mock me after last year’s game. Or watching the Fiesta Bowl with the Cincinnati Texas Exes in a BW3’s that was split between tOSU fans and Texas Exes – tOSU fans are possibly the worst.

Agreed ...

very exciting team to watch. They’ll be playing a lot of great shootouts next year.

Wonder What Tebow Rushing Yardage Record Is
For a game?
Yes - trying to check
166 for a game against Ole Miss in 07
Is that the one they lost? Or was that last year?
They won the game, that was a 9 win season for florida
Ah, yes

The Heisman season for Tim “he just wins” Tebow.

Got It - Looks like before last week 26 yd was career long
Tebow is a lot less VY and a lot more Dan Kendra
Wow, good analogy.

Has there been an SI article about how his team leg press record will help them win the MNC?

I'm glad someone knows who that is
No matter the yardage . . .

. . . Tebow was more impressive because he did it on water.

That one made me choke on my coffee...

…very good! And SO TRUE!

random thoughts...

1. Defense looked out of gas tonight………I know we all pray it was the short turnaround. The defense had 10 straight lights out performances…..but last 2 have been not so good. Lack of pressure and secondary has not been up to snub. Must trust Muschamp to make corrections.

2. Kickoff return coverage is a major problem right now, it needs to be addressed and a different tactic needs to be made…..squib kick or the pop up kickoff.

3. Offense is just en fuego right now….and at the right time.

Nebraska game will be complete opposite of game tonight. Give 2 good defenses extra time to rest and prepare…and the result will be a low scoring game. I’m thinking 23-10 kind of game.

Will Be Difficult without Ship - Anyone have status?
Where is this stuff coming from about Shipley?

He had his ankle taped but I didn’t see anything wrong at the end of the game.

Great News - I Thought He Returned
Shipley is fine
Anyone?

Are these (Reesing and JJ) the first 2 true dual threat QBs Muschamp has defensed? SEC never had any, and NFL is a different game. Maybe he’s trying to figure a scheme to contain dual-threat guys.

And Robinson.

I imagine he has before. I think the pass rush was working to keep contain but didn’t always do a great job and Kindle missed Johnson a couple times in space.

Yeah not Kindle's best night
Really Think It Was Amped Rival + Short Week Aberration Type of thing
Total yards and championship

Has any team ever given up this many yards and won a national championship in same season?

?

The Longhorns had the top-ranked defense in total yardage in the country coming into this game.

I think the poster meant for one game
Imagine someone has
2005

USC put up 574 on us

LSU 2007

513 yard and 50 points to Arkansas. Not the team you want to emulate, as they were the biggest skin of your teeth winner perhaps ever. As I recall, leading up to the 2006 Rose Bowl it was noted that no team had as bad a defensive performance as USC vs. Fresno State and gone on to win the national title. So that LSU team is a big outlier.

I know it's A&M's defense

but how about two straight solid rushing games? Loved the zone reads. Colt said to Craig Way after the game he’s never ran this much even in high school. Tre Newton single-handedly scored a TD on that one drive that got us to 35 points.

We will not face an offense better than A&M’s the rest of the season. I feel sorry for what Nebraska will have to face.

Get well soon Beasley. Seeing him on the UT bench smiling in the 4th quarter felt almost as good as the win.

I can definitely understand being worried about A&M next year. Can we win by outscoring them with a young Garrett Gilbert? Then again, they are the Aggies, and it’s at DKR. As good as they looked today, keep in mind how pathetic they looked against OU and KSU. Oh, and despite losing Shipley, I think we’ll be fine with a matured M. Williams, Buckner, Kirkendoll, Goodwin, and Monroe (it’ll be good to have Brandon Collins back too). I think our running game will better next year as well, not only with Newton, but GG is even faster than Colt I believe. Don’t forget, we’ll actually have a tight end in Irby that can make some plays for us! We could be another machine next year.

Think Irby is Done

He is really, really struggling with recovery.

Yeah, don’t expect to see Irby next year or any other year for that matter. Where are you getting that Gilbert is faster than McCoy? McCoy was pretty fast out there last night. What I’ve seen of Gilbert running looks much less fluid than McCoy, even if his top end speed is faster (which I doubt).

Would be surprised if Colt does not win Heisman

Just too many records that are really, really significant. Got to believe at last minute voters will remember he is the all time winningnest and most accurate college QB of all time.

I thought he won it tonight

Unless the SEC title game is a real barnburner.

Hope You R Right!
Ingraham might still have a slight lead

depending on what he does against Auburn. But that run by Colt is a Heisman type of moment, but that drive before the end of the first half.

Not Sure Ingram has had 170 yd game
He's had two

172 against Ole Miss and 246 against South Carolina.

+ three 150-yard games.

Damn - 2 Pretty Good Teams Too
Just a feeling

that it’s a great performance on national TV and that they’ll give it to him as a career achievement thing as much as anything else.

Ingram is on pace for 1600 yards and maybe 15 TDs this season, I can’t think of a back that hasn’t hit the 2,000 yard range and won the Heisman.

Ron Dayne for one
He Had the Lifetime Achievement of All Time Leading Rusher

Yeah, most years stats like that wouldn’t even have Ingram’s name in the conversation for Heisman. If Colt hadn’t struggled a little early he would have this thing sewn up.

GatorPride

from the game thread in case people don’t read it:

this is his wife excuse my husband he has been drinking and is a die hard gator fan as you can tell just ignore him

happy thanksgiving have a good weekend
Nothing like using alcohol as an excuse.

I was drunk therefore I can be an ass.

Nothing like having the wife kick you off the computer and apologize for you

He must have been equally amusing in the house for her to notice

Unless he's the Norman Bates of his house...
Whoa!

no way that happened……….I’m going back to that thread.

Five Wide?

Did we implement the five-wide formation this week? I can’t say we did, and I was pretty happy with our offensive production. Then again, 2 3 & outs to start the second half was not good.

Defense will need some work, but I have faith in Muschamp.

if it isn't obvious...

I HATE the five-wide formation.

+1 Imagine Colt Does Too
BTW - Big Shout Out to Much Maligned OL

Especially Uli

I thought the OL played really well in the pass protection today. Von Miller got a low shot in on McCoy though. I wish this bunch had the attitude that Studdard and co. had where they’d put defenders on their back and make them eat crap for trying something like that, but they did good tonight.

Alright boys

I’m out. Great win. I’m sure I’ll feel even better about it tomorrow and Saturday as I get to watch everyone else play knowing we’re already 12-0 and heading for the Big XII Championship game.

Happy Thanksgiving and Hook ’em!

Big 12 Championship

I have a feeling we won’t see the screaming lady against Nebraska.

How Much Has Mack Improved

Since starting the 2nd best QB on the team for the Big XII championship vs. Colorado. God Bless Him

I will take a win any day

but that was ugly.
A great game but too close.
Out everyone and hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.
41 days till NC

Props to little brother

That game was a lot closer than i would have liked. Props to the Aggies O… they made our D look silly a few times tonight. Johnson is for real and next year may be a really good year for the Ags.

That said, this is OUR year. I want Muschamp to chomp on the D but good this week. I think they needed to have a game like that to bring them down to earth and get their attention focused on the home stretch. Tonight reminded me of 2005 a little bit, huge offensive performances and just enough D. Now if Muschmap can straighten that out, we are gonna be wicked to play against in the next two games. McCoy deserves the Heisman and if he does not win it, that will be a robbery. I love that kid. What a great QB and leader!!! We are so blessed to have him. It is a year to be thankful for the Horns as well as some amny other things. Now Hook’em Horns… Beat Nebraska!!!

Great Perspective
"So many other things"...
It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings....

…or until the fat kicker shanks a field goal!

How Bout That Drive to End the Half

Even after the dreadful tying score with 1:11 left, I honestly had no doubt we would march down and score. Clutch clutch clutch.

Big

Looking back that could be the difference maker!

In /my opion that end of the half TD; the the 1st 3rd down by ATM, the missed FG were all BIG!
Why you ask 1st 3rd Down?

Set the tone for the game IMHO.

Special Teams.

Wish we had DJ and Marquise in the backfield

Well we did with Goodwin

and you saw what happened.

What is going on with Shipley and muffing punts?

That punt was not on Shipley. It was so short the blocker was engaged and couldn’t get away from it and it hit his leg. Shipley would have had to go through the blocker and the defender to try and field it.

Anyone go to to kyle field tonite?

What was the atm crowd like?

John Chiles

I like the guy, and I admire his willingness to try to help the team after not cutting it at QB, but it’s safe to say we didn’t exactly miss him at WR. He should only really play if someone gets hurt or in blowout situations.

Injury update

Houston said he just had leg cramps.
Beas is fine, but says his neck is sore.

this is all per halliburton.

I was at Kyle with my son

We were in the Texas section next to our band but the atm crowd was loud all night until the end of the game. Great weather, got so see an offensive show on both sides of the ball and the good guys won. Life is good…..
