I wonder how things would happen if TCU were 2 and Cincy were 5 behind Bama and Florida in the human polls. Would that make up for their computer scores? Of course, this is in the scenario of Texas, Cincy, and TCU winning out, Bama losing today, but beating Floriday.
Are the Bama and Florida games this weekend irrelevant?
Most “experts” seem to believe that a one-loss Bama or one-loss Florida, if they wind up winning next week, is still in the championship game. So does today’s Bama-Auburn game really matter?
Perhaps if Bama and Florida both lost this weekend…
Really, after 11 games they have been insanely awesome … but they are struggling with an in state rival on a holiday weekend on the road so those 11 games must mean NOTHING and their defense is being exposed!
1. Florida
1. Alabama
3. Tebow
4. LSU
5. Whoever Florida is playing
6. Alabama’s opponent
7. Team that miraculously beat an SEC team last week
8. TCU (the fly in the ointment)
9. Texas
10. Cincinnati
He actually came back to the ball and made the CB hit him to get the PI call. When a defender has his back turned I don’t understand why every receiver doesn’t do it
A&M has arguably the best skill talent UT could face this season, and Nebraska’s offense is a true blight. Our offense may struggle, but I’ll consider the game in hand after the first touchdown.
Watched the game with an Aggie buddy of mine. It was a little tense. Food was excellent (I smoked a turkey) & and I found out that the wife is having twins on Monday, so everyone was in a celebratory mood.
The Texas game yesterday was terrible. It shouldn’t have even been close. A top 5 team vs an unranked team should be a blowout. But this game is AWESOME!!!!! Alabama vs Auburn… they both have amazing defense!!!! OH my GAWD I love the SEC!!!!!!!!
But it seems to me that Auburn is zoning in on Ingram, kinda like we did against Bush in the National title. Doesn’t mean he isn’t good, but when you have an entire “SEC” defense zoning in on you, its bound to stop even the best of players.
Well did you expect A&M to play the game this close?
It’s a championship game against arguably the best team on UT’s schedule. They have holes (all on offense), but that defense has been good enough to give teams problems.
Who would you rather play given last night’s defensive effort? I’d actually say I’m rooting for the Tide because Tebow scares me based on what JJ did last night.
Of course if Bama drops this one and beats the Gators, then do we get TCU? Or Cincy?
All assuming we take care of business against the huskers next week, of course.
kills off the time for Auburn to have a scoring drive. I dont know whats worse, settling for 3 with 40 seconds less, or going down 6-7 with 40 seconds more.
That every team on UT’s schedule, except for UTEP, Colorado, and Kansas is bowl eligible this year? (And KU can become eligible if they can beat Mizzou.) I thought we had a weak schedule?
Man, I'm still really upset about the way Auburn finished that game
Malzahn turned into a giant wimp the last few drives for Auburn, and that two minute drill, if you can even call of that, was an abomination. Do coaches not learn basic math?
Until the very end of the Auburn/Alabama game, I didn’t hear anything about TCU or Cincinnati watching this game with glee (we heard that ALL GAME LONG yesterday). I didn’t hear the CBS announcers hope that the Auburn defense takes out the Alabama QB (almost a quote from the ESPN guys – hoping that Colt would get taken out of the game). I didn’t hear that Auburn’s quarterback was the greatest in the history of football (cf. ESPN’s constant yammering that Johnson was the next coming of Tebow, who is, in fact, Christ).
After Texas wins, I heard two basic things: (1) Texas should drop in the polls, because they should have really blown A&M out, and (2) if it weren’t for McCoy, Texas would have lost. I guess the people suggesting that Texas should drop just pushed us to #2 since the Auburn/Alabama game was much closer than the Texas game (and Texas was only behind for a couple of minutes in the first quarter) — especially since Alabama had to come from behind. I also guess that quarterbacks aren’t an integral part of anyone’s team, so having the most accurate QB in the history of the game (with the most wins) is pure happenstance.
Is this simple anti-Texas BS, or can any of this be justified?
CBS and ESPN is really banking on Texas falling giving TCU or Cincy a shot at the title game. We’re in the way right now and it’s eating at them. A heavily favored Texas struggles against an in-state rival on their home turf for a 10 point victory. On the flip side Alabama was also heavily favored, but they showed grit and determination coming back from 14 down to beat their in-state rival by 6 when their Heisman candidate RB is held to 32 yards. I guess in the SEC those 32 yards = 155 yards and 3 TDs in the Big 12 so it’s all good, bleh.
Let the haters hate, as long as the Horns handle their business and keep winning they can’t do anything about it.
On the bright side, the ESPN team for the Backyard Brawl said the Heisman is Colt's
The flashed the numbers for Ingram and McCoy up on the screen, and even without looking at Colt’s rushing numbers (which were almost six times those of Ingram’s), they reached the obvious conclusion that Colt wins out over Ingram at this point. Of course there’s another week to go, but I think Colt can definitely wrap it up with at least a solid performance and victory next Saturday. Ingram would have to carry the Tide on his back with a huge game-winning performance to wrest control back.
The one troubling factor is that the SEC love right now is currently split between Tebow and Ingram. If Ingram fades, Tebow gets more of it, so he could actually become the weakest Heisman winner in more than a decade.
2 teams fighting their in-state rival. Both teams on the road in a hostile environment. Both teams receiving a fight tougher than they ever imagined. Stakes incredibly high – a loss costing them a shot at the MNC. One Heisman contender passes, runs, punts, and leads his team to victory with a passion. The other Heisman contender sits on the bench with his 2 ypc while his backup tries to pull out the game. Now who should win the Heisman? Obviously Colt is the Heisman winner.
Can’t believe WVU pulled off the win. I had been hoping for a 10-1 Pitt vs. 11-0 Cincinnati next week, but no such luck. Congrats to Bill Stewart, who doesn’t have his team playing quite like Rodriguez did, but is really a much better guy to have working with those kids. It’s always nice to see him do well.
Enjoyed the neutral take on the Bama-au game. I know this thread is 2 days dead, but I thought I would throw a couple of things out there:
1) Ingram was not ‘pulled in the clutch’ as suggested by some. He was injured late in the 4th.
2) Richardson has seen significant playing time pretty much all season long no matter the situation. You are correct, though-there is not that much of a drop-off, if any, when Richardson is spelling Ingram.
3) Concerning the ‘Alabama is just a little better than Nebraska’ comment. I had the same thought about y’all while watching the TX-A&M game (very Arkansas-like: can score points, but no running game or defense). I guess it all depends on which games you watch.
Hopefully, we’ll find out for sure in Pasadena. Good luck with the ’huskers! Roll Tide!

Looks like they may be short of the 1st. Would give the ball to Auburn in prime field position
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Colt's winning the Heisman!
40AS - November 27, 2009
Is this Chizik's last thanks to Texas for the head coaching jobs?
mattyj - November 27, 2009
ingram giving the heisman to colt
Ohio Horn - November 27, 2009
there's an awful lot of game left...
longhornscardinals - November 27, 2009
31 yards on 15 carries
Ohio Horn - November 27, 2009

and hypothetically next run he breaks a 50 yarder?
That’s 81 yards on 16 carries.
longhornscardinals - November 27, 2009
Well, well. This is getting interesting
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
This is beautiful
kcmorse - November 27, 2009

What the hell was that? A WR screen on 3rd and long
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
they literally got nothing on that drive
kcmorse - November 27, 2009
Geez
Stopping running a screen every single time it’s 3rd and long. You don’t think ’bama notices?

Good lord these Auburn return teams make Texas look amazing
40AS - November 27, 2009
15 yarder coming up against Auburn
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
I do not know if Alabama is this dominating (losing by 7, I know)
or if Auburn is just choking.
We Are Texas - November 27, 2009
Auburn's special teams is killing them
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Thanks goodness Jones dropped that
mattyj - November 27, 2009

INcomplete HB Pass

Auburn has some good field position here. Lets see if they take advantage
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009

mattyj - November 27, 2009
Bama had only had one real sustained drive today

kcmorse - November 27, 2009
My goodness
Think what Malzahn could do with a good QB. That was incredibly bad.
TheElusiveShadow - November 27, 2009
He's been overthrowing people all day. That play looked weird with the fake handoff to nobody
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Not good and will they stop saying oooh turning the tide
kcmorse - November 27, 2009
Damn Auburn, shooting yourselves in the foot here
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
I can't believe Mike Leach recruited that kid to Tech.....
Good thing he didn’t stay, he could’ve been a good QB, hahaha!!!
allhailcale - November 27, 2009
How bad is it that Bama has trailed all day but I've never thought they would lose?
mattyj - November 27, 2009
richardson having a much better day than ingram

kcmorse - November 27, 2009
They gotta get a stop here and make them kick another field goal
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Richardson might be better than Ingram
mattyj - November 27, 2009
I agree, I think he is
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Certainly playing better today
Ingram’s a heck of a back though
40AS - November 27, 2009
Agreed
but Richardson is a stud. I know there was a little talk of him being interested in Texas, but he never came to visit. He could have been nice
mattyj - November 27, 2009
I don't think Richardson is better...
But it seems to me that Auburn is zoning in on Ingram, kinda like we did against Bush in the National title. Doesn’t mean he isn’t good, but when you have an entire “SEC” defense zoning in on you, its bound to stop even the best of players.
We Are Texas - November 27, 2009
Ingram getting pulled on a critical drive
How’s that for a Heisman contender?
mattyj - November 27, 2009
He wasn't in on their earlier TD drive
40AS - November 27, 2009

SEC officiating
We Are Texas - November 27, 2009
Why does everyone expect an unranked Nebraska to give us a great shot?
I know their D is good, but they haven’t played a good offense outside of Tech and they got beat 31-10.
mattyj - November 27, 2009
to get viewers
Ohio Horn - November 27, 2009
And with the exception of Kansas (31)
They haven’t scored more than 20 against a BCS team
mattyj - November 27, 2009
Well did you expect A&M to play the game this close?
It’s a championship game against arguably the best team on UT’s schedule. They have holes (all on offense), but that defense has been good enough to give teams problems.
DoubleB - November 27, 2009
I didn't expect last night to be close
but wasn’t that surprised because of rivalry game at Kyle and A&M has playmakers on offense. Nebraska does not.
mattyj - November 27, 2009
Let's remember
those playmakers lost by 55 to Oklahoma (Johnson was something like 12-31 in the game) and 48 to Kansas State.
Nebraska’s playmakers are on defense and today is a great example. Up 14 at the half despite having less than 100 yards of total offense.
DoubleB - November 27, 2009
I agree.
I don’t think we blow them out, but it seems like we should be getting a little more credit for our offense.
mattyj - November 27, 2009
It could be a 31-10 type of game
that’s never close. Nebraska’s offense is pathetic. But if they can play the game like Oklahoma did against Texas then it’s going to be a close one.
DoubleB - November 27, 2009
1st and 20 is never good
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Auburn needs to get something together they are very much in this game

Auburn QB pulled a Colt
Ohio Horn - November 27, 2009
Wowzer
Great play
40AS - November 27, 2009
Expected him to throw another pick. Nice play to pull it down and run the ball
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Seems like 'Bama falls for the GD type plays.
98horn - November 27, 2009
So for the past 12 years he's been setting everything up for a MNC match-up with Bama. Genius!!
mattyj - November 27, 2009
More referring to the bubble screen/quick outs/running it for 0 yards
98horn - November 27, 2009

Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Why didnt he run

mattyj - November 27, 2009
Chris Johnson has been money for me this year and Vince has certainly helped him
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Absolutely love when they run the option. You know it's going far if either VY or CJ takes it
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
I pray they kick this ball out of bounds or rugby style kick it but neither will happen
kcmorse - November 27, 2009

Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Gators or Tide?
Who would you rather play given last night’s defensive effort? I’d actually say I’m rooting for the Tide because Tebow scares me based on what JJ did last night.
Of course if Bama drops this one and beats the Gators, then do we get TCU? Or Cincy?
All assuming we take care of business against the huskers next week, of course.
hoogs - November 27, 2009
Johnson > Tebow
Tebow is a Fullback playing QB.
98horn - November 27, 2009
Don't be so sure
Tebow, as much as I hate him, is a pure winner.
And he and JJ actually have the same 40 time according to multiple websites.
hoogs - November 27, 2009
And according to thsoe same websites there are dozens of sub-4.4 kids coming into college every year
mattyj - November 27, 2009
No, it's nfldraftscout.com, rivals, etc.
they have both at 4.59
tebow’s 55 yard run last week was impressive.
and to be clear, i’m not a gator fan. just realistic. i’d rather play the tide.
hoogs - November 27, 2009
they played a d2 school last week ... come on
abcdmetrius - November 27, 2009
Colt's 65 yarder was more impressive.
98horn - November 27, 2009
did you watch the game? aggie has better offense than both
abcdmetrius - November 27, 2009
It looks like Bama knows what's coming based on formations

mattyj - November 27, 2009
Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt the offense supposed to go forward?
Hook_'em_Horns - November 27, 2009
Sorry. Pathetic playcalls those first two downs.
Wow. Talk about playing scared.
TheElusiveShadow - November 27, 2009
Yeah I know they would mange to screw it up
kcmorse - November 27, 2009
I think Auburn's offensive coordinator has lost it...
That was terrible play calling
JYarbs - November 27, 2009
Agreed.
I have no idea what he was doing there. Definition of playing not to lose rather than go for the win.
TheElusiveShadow - November 27, 2009
Truly sucks
DreadedOne - November 27, 2009 via mobile
3 and out is gonna be needed to win this for Auburn.
We Are Texas - November 27, 2009
I think they need a turnover...
weird to say since they currently have the lead, but ’Bama seems to have them figured out.
JYarbs - November 27, 2009
Auburn gets the ball back 1 more time maybe twice hardly doubt it
kcmorse - November 27, 2009
Why would you call play action on 3rd and 18?
Everyone knows your going to throw, it just gives the defense more time to get to you.

Colorado threatening to make a game of it

You have to
throw the ball down the field for at least 10 yards (or make sure your WR can get 10 on his own)

1:30 is an eternity for a good team that knows how to run a hurry up offense. Chizik looking very flustered over there.

Did you know...
That every team on UT’s schedule, except for UTEP, Colorado, and Kansas is bowl eligible this year? (And KU can become eligible if they can beat Mizzou.) I thought we had a weak schedule?

Both Florida and Bama have played 4 teams who aren't bowl eligible. (Ok, I'm bored...)

One more lackluster performance by Ingram vs Florida
and it’s back to Colt vs Tebow for the Heisman. A part of me hopes Tebow wins it ala 2005.

Man, I'm still really upset about the way Auburn finished that game
Malzahn turned into a giant wimp the last few drives for Auburn, and that two minute drill, if you can even call of that, was an abomination. Do coaches not learn basic math?
TheElusiveShadow - November 27, 2009
Forgive me, I'm confused
Hook ’em, dammit.
maddoc - November 27, 2009
JaySim - November 27, 2009
If Ingram fades, Tebow gets more of it, so he could actually become the weakest Heisman winner in more than a decade.
burntorangehorn - November 27, 2009
Case (for his brother) Closed!

Wow
Can’t believe WVU pulled off the win. I had been hoping for a 10-1 Pitt vs. 11-0 Cincinnati next week, but no such luck. Congrats to Bill Stewart, who doesn’t have his team playing quite like Rodriguez did, but is really a much better guy to have working with those kids. It’s always nice to see him do well.

goingforthecorner - November 27, 2009
Greetings, Horns fans!
Roll Tide!
