After a tough mid-week loss to second-ranked Rice, Texas hopes to get back in the Win column to which we had grown accustomed this weekend. It will be a rematch of last year's Big XII Tournament title game, in which the Longhorns prevailed 15-7.
The Wildcats are coming off a 2-1 series loss to Mizzou last weekend in Manhattan. K-State held a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning on Friday night and blew it, lost on Saturday, and salvaged Game Three. At 8-7 in the conference, KSU sits tied for fourth place right now.
Texas seems to be peaking at just the right time. The pitching has not been quite as dominant lately as it was to start the season, but it has still been the best staff in the Big XII. There has been a marked improvement in the team's defensive performance as compared to 2008. Meanwhile, the Longhorn offense has woken up with a vengeance. In winning 13 of their last 15 games, Texas has been held under four runs only once--a 7-1 loss at Oklahoma State on April 1. Over the same stretch, Texas has scored at least eight runs in seven different games.
The sweep over Oklahoma last weekend was just huge, as it put Texas in the conference driver's seat and right in the middle of the discussion for one of the coveted top eight national seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
You can watch all 3 games for free at Texas Sports. Game One is tonight at 6 PM (although there is a chance of thunderstorms) and this will be your open thread. Game Two is tomorrow at 2 and Game Three is Sunday at 1.
