The preview is late, but so is the Friday night game. It'll be Baylor in Austin tonight at 8 PM, then heading to Waco for Saturday and Sunday. The bats came alive on Tuesday against a Texas State team that is 31-10 including two wins against Baylor, so hopefully that's a sign of big things to come. The Horns have 9 games left. If they can take care of business in the non-conference games and take two of three in each of the next two series, we like the chances of winning the conference and having a pretty good shot at a national seed. Tonight's big. Of note, either Workman or Jungmann is slated to start on Sunday, suggesting Taylor may be rejoining the starting rotation afterall.

[UPDATE] The Statesman is reporting that Jungmann will in fact join the rotation and take the spot of the recently ineffective Brandon Workman.

Starting pitching
This would be a great time to start Jungmann, to allow a few starts (Baylor, Texas Southern, A&M, conference tournament) to build stamina in his outings. Most of his appearances have been 3-4 innings, and we need to get him stretched out to 7-8 innings by regionals.
With Workman giving up 3-4 runs by the 4th inning, this would be a killer against a great pitcher in the playoffs. Maybe he’d be better in relief, or as the 1st regional starter against a 4 seed, assuming they don’t have a stud pitcher also, as this year’s team has shown that they can be handled offensively.

40AS - May 1, 2009
Whew, that was fun
Interesting night at the Disch. Box scores aren’t out yet, but I’m pretty sure Connor Rowe ended up 3-5 with 5 RBIs, an outfield assist, and a beautiful diving catch in centerfield. He did miss home on Tucker’s squeeze bunt, but he more than made up for that small error.
Speaking of errors, Baylor committed a touchdown worth of them. I’m not sure how many of Texas’ runs were unearned, but a healthy chunk of them came after or as a direct result of Bear defensive miscues.
Chance Ruffin, while not at his best, battled through 6 innings giving up 4 runs(again, not sure how many were unearned; the Horns committed 2 errors of their own), and quite a few hits. Austin Wood was back to his usual dominant self after a sub-standard weekend against K-State. He went 3 innings, no runs, and scattered a few hits.
The weekend is off to a good start: Texas takes the opener, and OU drops a 5-4 decision to Kansas at home, moving the Horns back in front of the Sooners for the moment. Texas travels to Waco for Saturday’s and Sunday’s contests. First pitch tomorrow is 6:30, and 1:30 on Sunday
