my senior year in football crazy storms blew over the area suspending all the games in the area in like the 3rd and 4th quarters. had to finish the game on a saturday and we won in triple overtime.
I was listening to a talk radio show after a local AA game and they mentioned Austin’s 10+ innings of no-hit relief. I had no idea the game was still on. This is f-ing amazing. Go Horns!!!
This game is now tied for the longest game in the history of Division I baseball. There have been two other 22-inning games: Baylor vs. Houston in 1999 and Nebraska vs. Colorado in 1974.
We’re one inning shy of the longest game in college baseball history, period — regardless of division — 23 innings, by Louisiana-Lafayette and McNeese State in 1971.
It wasn’t a D1 game. The record book is confusing, but look further in the book, (pg. 27 in my copy) and you’ll see the 22-inning games listed as the longest in D1. Then if you look up La-Lafayette’s baseball history on their website, you’ll see they became D1 the following year.

TB - May 30, 2009
If we win this game.
I would wager that BC never scores another run in the history of their program.
And I looked and saw a pale horse.
And his name who sat on him…
…was Austin Wood.
Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
After 20 innings of this same commercial, I am officially not doing drugs
acho81 - May 30, 2009
The question is, why not?
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - May 30, 2009
I started doing drugs because the Longhorns couldn't finish the baseball game...
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - May 30, 2009
Win the thread!
Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
You have got to be kidding me!
This is crazy!!! Austin Wood is a man!!! But he’s not forty. Although, he may throw forty innings.

Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - May 30, 2009

Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
I'll say it again
Does anyone even remember that Ruffin pitched a great game as well…? LOL
kriess - May 30, 2009
I've been very impressed with Wood all season

EddieTheAlbinoSquirrel - May 30, 2009

uwill1der - May 30, 2009
Inspiring me to wish Keyes had a few more at bats.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - May 30, 2009

Hopkins Horn - May 30, 2009
F. knock on wood, please?
the1austin - May 30, 2009
how many pitchers has BC used? When do they run out?

Inside the park home run.
That’s how it happens.
Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
Nice.
kriess - May 30, 2009
But BC would still get to bat
Hopkins Horn - May 30, 2009

way to look at the positives... the glass is half full.
the1austin - May 30, 2009
How many runners has Torres stranded? I have 6 in my head

the1austin - May 30, 2009
this has got to be statistically impossible right?
HornsRiverine - May 30, 2009
Unfortunately
It’s only “almost surely” impossible that the game lasts forever.
Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
somebody on here took statistics in school right, start doing your calculations
HornsRiverine - May 30, 2009

More pitching detils
To answer the question more thoroughly, BC’s pitchers have done:
- 9.2 innings
- 7 innings
- 1.1
- 0.2
- 2
- 0.2
- 0.1
EddieTheAlbinoSquirrel - May 30, 2009
and the batter is ejected
lnghrnchad - May 30, 2009
Probably wanted to go to sleep
Johngo - May 30, 2009
Can't blame the guy
I’d argue with the ump right now. I’m sure the ump is just as pissed.
kriess - May 30, 2009
Yay!
Now we can really clamp down on their offense!
Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
I think this is part of the strategy.,,
Wait them out 21 innings and then hope their batters start losing it….
the1austin - May 30, 2009
ahhh auggie is planning the psychological strike
HornsRiverine - May 30, 2009
for arguing a drop 3rd strike
lnghrnchad - May 30, 2009
Someone call the Okies
See if we can get them to do a rain dance for runs.
I’m that desperate.
Horn Brain - May 30, 2009
i say implement the international rules now, not sure how good it would do
the horns have left god knows how many guys in scoring position during extra innings
HornsRiverine - May 30, 2009
enlighten us.

Search that dancing dude
He’s got a flask or a beer belly or something.
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
This feels like a 5-OT playoff NHL game
It’s not must-see TV, but once you’ve committed to a game like this, you can’t give up
Hopkins Horn - May 31, 2009
half of it was must see.
Wood pitched that half.
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
Well, only half of that was seen...
…given the streaming problems
Hopkins Horn - May 31, 2009
FYI....
JudenSmithFan - May 31, 2009
I looked at NCAA.org...
…and I couldn’t find the D-II or D-III records, just the D-I referenced above for longest game at 23
Hopkins Horn - May 31, 2009
yeah the lafayette mcneese game is listed under d1
uwill1der - May 31, 2009
Nope.
It wasn’t a D1 game. The record book is confusing, but look further in the book, (pg. 27 in my copy) and you’ll see the 22-inning games listed as the longest in D1. Then if you look up La-Lafayette’s baseball history on their website, you’ll see they became D1 the following year.
JudenSmithFan - May 31, 2009
Yes!
lnghrnchad - May 31, 2009
Now...bunt
lnghrnchad - May 31, 2009

Huckleberry won't blame me for this...
BUNT BUNT BUNT BUNT BUNT!
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
Most likely not.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - May 31, 2009
Lead-off runner on!
Rupp finally gets a hit. Time for a Loy sac bunt.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - May 31, 2009
even the west coast games are done

HornsRiverine - May 31, 2009
Sac bunt...perfect
lnghrnchad - May 31, 2009
Nicely bunted.
Rupp to second.
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
What would be the baseball equivalent of a shoot-out?
I would say a homerun derby, but I don’t think either team could get it over the wall.

There is NADA good on any of the ESPN channels right now … yet no Texas game
EddieTheAlbinoSquirrel - May 31, 2009

When does calling this game a picking it up tomorrow become an option? Anyone know?
JeffTweedyIsGod - May 31, 2009
With games tomorrow at 1 and 6 I think they'll stay as long as it takes.
Johngo - May 31, 2009
I'd guess if both coaches agreed
Hopkins Horn - May 31, 2009
What was that sound and extra voice?
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009

kriess - May 31, 2009
Nice play by a very tired Loy, I'm sure.
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
I'm sure he's tired
But I’m tired of him making errors. His 2 on the day cost us those runs.
kriess - May 31, 2009
He just needed 18 innings to warm up.
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
Does each team go strike out and say "Oh good, defense again! Comfortable!"
Horn Brain - May 31, 2009
between both threads we are over 1100 comments.... is trying a new thread worth the effort?
the1austin - May 31, 2009
One thread per "7th inning" stretch?
Hopkins Horn - May 31, 2009
WTF with the 4 pitch walk?
bfaut86 - May 31, 2009
