Burnt Orange Nation

Destiny???

LSU can have its 14-5 wins. Austin Wood gave up an RBI triple to give Arizona State a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. ASU's closer had been perfect through his first 7 batters, then he fell behind to Cameron Rupp, who launched a 3-1 pitch over the center field wall. Tie game. Preston Clark popped out. Then Connor Rowe bombed a walk off homer to left.

Texas has played an SEC team the last four times it has won a title. Bring on the Tigers. This team has some serious magic and tonight we celebrate.

FACT

my daughter was born on the first day of regionals

she is this team’s good luck charm

Was wondering where you've been

Can somebody get a screen shot of Lambson’s face after Rupp’s homer? It was classic

poopy diapers call FREQUENTLY
Is her name Austina or Vinceina?
at this point i should change it to jungwoman
How about Mike Leake?

I think we can add the “Mike Leake face” to the pantheon of great sports faces, right up there with the “Tim Duncan face” (after a foul) and the “Peyton Manning face” (any time he thinks a teammate messed up).

Don't forget

The Matt Leinart “My defense failed me again” face.

Ha! Nice.
Lambson's face after Rupp's homer was priceless

The very definition of shell shocked

Must have been at least 420-430 feet.... Lambson got rocked

But, on the flipside, it was nice to see the ASU coach giving him some life lessons immediately after the game…. Better than “storming off into the locker room” Yeah, I am talking about you LeBron, what

Well, as was clearly stated, they were- and still are- the better team.

I went back to rewatch it on my DVR, but couldnt record it, so I got the camcorder out to record it that way, I’ll see what I can pull off of that

Congratulations.

We’re honored to have her as a good luck charm.

Lets recap

Regional
-Beat Army 3-1 in first game
-Beat BC in a 25 inning game
-Beat Army with an 8 run 9th and a walk off Gradslam

Super Regional
-Play almost a perfect game against TCU and win with 7 sac bunts
-Get beat in a pitchers duel 3-2
- Have a very good performance from Jungmann to win the deciding game

College World Series
-Beat a scrappy Southern Miss team on a walk off walk.
-Comeback from being down 6-0 against ASU, have a 6 run 4th
-Another pitchers duel, trail in the bottom of the 9th, two Solo Homeruns to win the game

And the little small ball team scored all its runs via the long ball tonight

I love it.

En Garde, ESPN! Go find more junk filler talk!
No more small ball talk, this team can hit a little bit.
small ball

Some how or other they will work in the small ball talk. Of course these guys still think the Horns run the wishbone.

Baseball is won in the trenches.

Celtics-Lakers '08?

The team in purple and yellow blow through the competition to get to the finals and we have to fight hard for every win. Hopefully it ends the same way

might I add..

…the purple and gold team that I hate..so maybe there’s something there…hopefully

Coolest Shit Since The Quan Dive
Don't you think it's a tie

between this game and last? So much good baseball.

I gotta say, this beats the last game...somehow
Both had there moments

When you could not do anything but say ‘WOW’

Rupp’s going to be very highly coveted in next year’s draft, I believe.

lsu has not had a game for aver month
By the Way...

Living in Southern California…any sport, they loathe the Horns…and I absolutely freaking love every minute of it.

why Erin was not there tonight?

does she just work on the weekend game?

she only does the espn baseball games I think....

so she should be there for the finals..

oh.... i thought i saw Augie

talked to her on tues. night game?

I am just now catching my breath. Glad you guys were here. No one else in my family has been following this

I would be freaking insane if I couldn’t vent, cheer and YELL with other fans.

likewise

my dog jumps up and down with me, but i’m not sure if he really knows what is going on.

We’re Texas.

My dog is burnt orange

With a white stripe down the nose and white paws and socks. Seriously.

pics or it didn't happen
I'm off to find one! Gotta switch machines.
I'm waiting on that one..!

Post it as a fanshot, I doubt people would mind…

Here's my burnt orange Drake

Not the best photo – wanted to work fast.

all I see is a red X in a box.
where is it?

My wife had me paint our new kitchen burnt orange. White trim.

WOOOOO!

I was so nervous at the beginning of Rupp’s at-bat. Then, I stopped and asked myself why I wasn’t spending my energy believing in this baseball team. It didn’t take long for them to reward my faith. Wow, Rupp absolutely crushed that ball. It had to have been about 430-440 feet. Then, Connor Rowe. That one swing surpassed anything that Drew Stubbs ever did in the CWS. Wow. I love this baseball team.

Damn it feels good to be a Horn.
some farmer in south dakota got a free souvenir tonight.

that is, once rupp’s ball lands.

hardest ball i've seen hit by a horn

since keyes went over the ufcudff monster

I've never seen a ball hit that hard

I keep saying it and it’s still true

he actually hit it OVER souvenir city
this is an accurate statement

to deep center was 408, the wall is 10’, meaning the backdrop has to be 30’ at least, that ball probably went at least 450’.

God

He murdered that ball, f-ing ridiculous

Little league coaches should show that

As evidence of how important it is to get ahead of hitters

when a kid says, "what do you mean by sit on a pitch?"

just press play.

And Pat Murphy says in the postgame presser ...

a baseball tournament doesn’t tell you who the best team is.

Just go home dude.

where did you see this?

espn2 is covering the US Open now…

Listening on the radio
oh wow...

what a douche…being gracious is not something he does…

Yeah

I know it’s hard, but you just lost to Texas twice. I realize both games were close. Both required comeback wins. But you lost. Twice. Stop with the “it doesn’t mean they’re better” crap.

Moreover, twice you threw your ace

And your ace reliever

What I'm wondering is

if losing to team twice in a row doesn’t mean they’re better than you what does it mean?

Matt Leinart disagrees..nt
Would he

have rather had a “BCS Style” game where ASU had NO chance because it would have been Texas v Fullerton? Those were the top two seeds…

Pat Murphy needs to go away, now…

you keep using that word

i do not think it means what you think it means

Did I miss something

what word? Not attacking, just think I miss something?

"better"
that comment was made in my inigo montoya voice
Oh, okay...HA

Sounds like another sore loser from the PAC-10 from around the 2005 time frame….

So nice to wake up to good news yet again.

So we’ve got Ruffin on Monday and Jungmann hopefully in yet another “game of his life” possibly Tuesday. If we go to three does Workman pitch? Or Green again?

i'd think green
Augie said its going to be like any 3 game series

Ruffin, Green, Jungmann

Probably Ruffin, Green, Jungmann

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jungmann held out for long relief in one of the first two games. If we get to a third game then Workman might be the starter if Jungmann has seen significant action.

Green on 2 days’ rest? How many pitches did he throw tonight?

The series starts Monday

So green would go Tuesday that would be 3 Full days rest, should be enough

Right, I keep forgetting it’s still Friday where you are!

Earth?...jk..nt
the last time green pitched on three days rest

he started the tuesday game in austin v rice and did not do well

I was thinking the same. I don’t think three days is sufficient after a 105 pitch performance. Maybe keep him ready for relief in game two if UT wins game one, but plan on starting him in game three?

BTW, totally off topic, but what ever happened to Riley Boening? Wasn’t he the next big thing after his freshman year?

Couple of shoulder surgeries, might be able to pitch again next year.

I think at least one of them was a torn labrum. Not good news, he might have come back too quickly from the first one because he pitched a couple of games and just didn’t have it.

Medical redshirt then I assume? He’s listed as a senior.

hopefully we can learn to field in 2 days on grass
Rupp

“Yea, When I hit it I knew it was gone, yea.”

He flipped his bat

I need video!

i got video, just loading it

how to I put it up

Looks like the game will be re-broadcast on ESPNU if you have it

but we shall see if they change their mind

Just hit record
sweet!

lord knows i’ll be up

I don't have ESPNU, and really just want to watch the last...three or so batters
espn360 replay?
No 360

Woe is me

Its not on yet?
Should be the ESPN 360 replay

http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/player?gameId=5403&sportCode=&league=undefined

Unfortunately Comcast doesn't carry ESPN 360 :(
I am uploading what I got on to my computer and then to YouTube

It is a little shaky, but you can see what happens

Sorry to hear that

I keep replaying the last 5minutes of the game over and over.
I still cannot believe it.

can we get new annoucers?
amen.

The ones for CWS are awful.

Probably get Mike Patrick

He’s good

We should get the best for this series

I am guessing we get Oral and Mike Patrick

I like Patrick

nice
I am guessing we get Oral
hard to complain about that.
I know I am a UT homer but espn has been horrible this year
if you did not have a significant # of players drafted you are not worth commenting on even if you are the #1 seed
especially if the bulk of your players who get pt

aren’t eligible

Yea, the CWS is all about looking at the next Pro players

Texas has some young Pros and then they have some solid seniors that should have been drafted.

But ESPN banks on this being an audience that wants to see the up and coming starts

i am old proud longhorn HOOKEM!!
i missed it...

i f_ing missed it.

This is the 1st time the got the match-up they wanted, this s/b fun
the matchup is actually 1 vs 2 or 3
or pitching vs hitting
games like this are why I love sports

what a feeling when rowe let it rip. i jumped up immediately and knew it was gone. thank you to the 2009 longhorn baseball team for some great memories, now let’s put the icing on the cake and make this a truly unforgettable season.

This next series

Do you think Texas can actually go win a game 7-3 and just put some runs on the board through out the night, instead of making us sweat it out

Winning a game convincingly just isn't how this team rolls,
i don't put anything past this team
just heard craig's call of the 9th.

prodigious clout? awesome.

Where'd you hear it?
I need that audio feed!

I can only imagine how cracked his voice got

Its gone!!!! It's gone!!!!

some really good calls.

I got chills

Great stuff!

They need to get Craig to do the ESPN broadcast of the CWS.

+1

And any other Texas broadcast (football, basketball, baseball, etc.)

wouldnt make sense...

to have someone that actually follows and cares about the sport to call the games.

That's ture,

I mean we really do need to know what everybody in the booth’s favorite sports movies are, That’s important stuff.

streaming the zone

they played the calls of all the HRs.

1 AM is my bed time

Fun night everyone

BTW, what’s with the Homecoming Queen sash?

A buddy of ours was the LSU homecoming king

He brought the sash to a new year’s eve party, somehow I got a hold of it and we took a picture putting our ‘Ls’ up for LSU (mine was for L for loser…heh)

Now I’m going to bed

BTW

First walk off homer in Omaha since…Chance Wheeless did it in ’05

Walk off homer against a talented team that sent us into the championship series against an SEC team. History repeats?

forget espn

just finished watching news 8 austin channel for highlight… or ch.408 non-stop….. i found Lesley McCaslin just as cute as Erin!

Let

After watching that entire telecast, chock full of buxom blondes flashing the shocker and cheering for Arizona State, I have zero sympathy for anyone heading back to AZ.

i definitely agree w/ you there. espn was so pro asu it was incredible. it was the same way the last time we played them. hookem
Whats wrong with buxom blondes flashing the shocker?

Even if they’re ASU girls. ASU has the hottest co-eds west of the Rio Grande

That's what I'm saying

ASU can be sad all they want, but I saw what they’re coming home to, and I don’t feel bad for them.

I feel old. To me, “Shocker” was just the Wichita State mascot, as I grew up in Wichita. But after this chick performing at a comedy club in Baltimore kept saying something about it, and now this, I had to look it up.

any reference to wichitat state does show age. i remeber they were a perenial baseball power.

I was in fourth grade when they won it all with Gene Stephenson. Many kids at my school had t-shirts with the image of the front page of the Wichita Eagle (then the Wichita Eagle-Beacon). Awesome image, btw. It was of the big dogpile on the mound, with “CHAMPS!” in enormous letters.

wsu

my brother was born in witchita and claims he wasn’t. i just tell him we moved to Texas as fast as we could.

any idea the last ime ut vs lsu in baseball?
So far

Game 4, 2000 CWS, LSU 13, UT 5

highlight about to be on espn

I think it’s coming up soon.
Man, I left home after 7th inning. I did this knowing Texas will win if I stop watching. You’re welcome…

I have no words.

I think the moment that I saw Conner Rowe hit that ball, and heard Posse East around me erupt in joy, all I could do was hold my head in my hands and try to believe what had just happened around me. This Texas team will not quit. And I don’t care how many runs LSU put up on whoever they played. There is something to be said for destiny, and there is a story waiting to be written in front of us.

Omaha

will be a madhouse. UT and LSU both have tons of fans there. The place will be packed with actual fans of the schools for the series.

I was there for the Sunday through Tuesday games and thought I had seen the best of it. Now I’m mad I had to come home on Wednesday.

I only wish I could be there.
ESPN writers better than ESPN live coverage.
• Texas, which won its CWS opener against Southern Miss on a walkoff walk, picked up its third victory in its last at-bat in the NCAA Tournament.

• Arizona State closer Michael Lambson lost for the second time in the CWS when he surrendered the two homers after retiring the first seven batters he faced in the game.

• Cameron Rupp hit his third homer of the CWS, all against the Sun Devils.

• The Longhorns, in their first trip to Omaha since they won the national title in 2005, advanced to their fourth CWS finals this decade (won in 2002 and 2005, lost in 2004).

The ESPN articles are here and here with video.

No matter what happens in the College World Series finals, it’ll be tough for Texas to top this finish.

Wanna bet?

I agree. Hookem!
More cool stats
Texas …now leads the country in ERA heading into the CWS championship series (2.88 for Texas; 2.89 for Arizona State).
Augie Garrido collected his 37th CWS win on Friday, moving past Arizona State’s Jim Brock and Stanford’s Mark Marquess for third place all-time. His .698 winning percentage now ranks fourth all-time.
Mitchell Lambson finished the year with an Arizona State freshman record with 99 strikeouts, including five strikeouts tonight.

The Longhorns improved to 81-53 all-time at the CWS, as Texas leads all programs in CWS wins (81) and games played (134).

The rest here

Link to Pat Murphy stupid quote

What an idiot. No, we would rather have a vote to pick the NC like what happened in football – right?

"A baseball tournament doesn’t necessarily indicate who the best team in the country is," ASU coach Pat Murphy said.

"A pitch here, a pitch there. A call here, a call there. We could have won it all. It tears you up. It doesn’t seem right."

http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/140759

Not terribly gracious, but probably true.

Its way too small a sample size to draw from to make any conclusions…but seriously, as the losing, just shut your effing mouth.

I agree. It’s probably true that a tournament doesn’t generally crown the best team. That’s why we see teams that aren’t even #1-seeds in their respective brackets win the basketball and/or baseball tournament many years. It’s why wild cards (which I hate worse than about anything in sports) sometimes win the Super Bowl or World Series. But UT beat ASU twice out of two tries, despite some major gifts from the defense, and was the #1-overall seed in the nation to boot. He’s fresh out of excuses.
