That was what we needed. Colt was the guy we thought he'd be all year, freshman DJ Monroe became the first player in Texas history (!) to return two kickoffs for a touchdown in a career, Vondrell McGee hit 100 yards on less than 10 carries, and we found out that Trevor Walker is the forth string QB. The Horns get a much needed week of rest before taking on Colorado. For now we can celebrate Colt's big day and the fact that the Horns remain undefeated while so many other top ten teams go down.

For keeping the score below 70?
If so, it should be a co-mvp award with Fitzhenry causing a fumble on Hills to keep him from going into the endzone.

I was wondering who that was.
It would have been a good strip if he was on defense.

Our offense and special teams
Are costing or D shutouts. We would have shut out Wyoming and UTEP without mistakes from other units of the team.
That being said, nice win. You know our expectations are high when we thrash a team 65-7 and fans are talking about our mistakes and missed opportunities.

Best defensive performance I've seen from a Texas team.
Just unreal.
Once Colt got his daily pick out of the way, he played lights out.
We have a lot of young, fast, undersized guys. The Garrett Gilbert era is gonna be a blast.
Mythical Fozzy Creature indeed.
ctex80 - September 26, 2009
the thing i like the most about gilbert is his upside, all the while being as polished as he is.
to top it off, he has a college level training program to get him into the shape he will need to be to be the field general at Texas. even though he is playing in limited time, he is definitely about as accurate as Colt.

Just enjoying the highlights after the game and Kordell Stewart with dumb ass crew all have ’Bama ahead of Texas. Why no respect?

well...
first off – does it really matter?
secondly – TX is yet to play any team that is the calibar of a VT, and Bama has.
andmyster - September 26, 2009
I honestly
on a neutral field would pick Texas Tech over VT. So in my eyes, Texas has played a team the “caliber” of Va Tech. Same Va Tech that needed a busted play to beat Nebraska in Blacksburgh.

TT beating #17 Houston at half
VT is overrated as usual. Is VT good now that they beat an un-proven Miami team? Miami beat Florida State who sucked today and GT showed what they have to offer in last years bowl game.
Longhorns84 - September 26, 2009
ou will destroy Miami
Longhorns84 - September 26, 2009
Its because
they all were so high on Miami after last week and Va Tech handed it to them today. The same Va Tech that got beat by Bama, so Stewart and the rest of those i dots at the worldwide leader have to try and save face somehow.
“Oh well, Va Tech’s only loss is to Alabama so Alabama must be EXTREMELY good if Va Tech beat Miami, a team that is top 10 because it beat Florida State and Georgia Tech.”
kirk1005 - September 26, 2009
Seriously
Kirk. This is CFB and your sarcastic layout of analyst logic is ironically accurate. I can say without cheek that I’m fine with the scenario you layot above. We’ve looked incredibly weak in many areas against much weaker teams than VA Tech and even Miami have played. So in my view those teams deserve their current rankings. In time, however, I believe things will work out for the serving team(s); the Horns will prevail.
DaGoose - September 27, 2009 via mobile
Big picture. Think big picture.
Either Bama or Florida will lose, in December if not before. One, I predict, WILL lose before the SEC title game.
Hard to say how impressive Longhorns were today — UTEP was utterly outclassed in both lines. Even the worst Big 12 team is far superior up front to what this team was. All those easy points won’t come so easy in the Big 12. But you gotta love the speed UT can trot out there; very different from last season.

they deserve to lose with dumb coaching like that
greenspointexas - September 27, 2009
Great quote, Ferentz!
Sideline bimbo: “What were you thinking when that happened?”
Ferentz: “Crap, quite frankly. Crap.”
Awesome.
adt2 - September 26, 2009
Holy Shit
these coogs can catch the damn ball. Even with PI.

Nice answer by Tech

Polls tomorrow
LSU #4? How many Big XII teams would bitch slap LSU?
And I guess ou is #6?
adt2 - September 26, 2009 via mobile
where's Boise gonna be?
7Swords of Salat - September 26, 2009
they gotta be #5 , right?
7Swords of Salat - September 26, 2009
I guess they are 5
But it gives me the willies. They’re too gimmicky. Leachy. Stoopsy. Ick.
adt2 - September 26, 2009 via mobile
I think Va.Tech is gonna jump OU
7Swords of Salat - September 26, 2009
I'd be okay with that
Better wins than anything ou has, and their loss doesn’t look so bad now.

Nice Thumping of the U.
It’s a shame the Hurricanes could’nt handle a little RAIN.
Ese-De-SA - September 26, 2009
Where do you rank....
….. Oregon?
Defeated #18 Utah
Defeated #6 Cal
Defeated Purdue
Lost to #14 Boise State (soon to be #5) in a season opener
Personally, I see their loss being better than any single loss team, except VaTech. I’ll take them all the way to #7. I fully expect the pollsters to mostly overlook their on-the-field success.
HornChamps - September 27, 2009
These announcers have never seen TT
Leach calls a timeout whenever the opposing team is getting into a rhythm. Has nothing to do with his defense being tired.
adt2 - September 26, 2009 via mobile
Yeah,
I doubt Craig James has seen much Red Raider football.
horndude - September 26, 2009
Didn't realize that's who was calling the game
“I’m Craig James, bitch!”

not trying to be a jerk, really.
welcome aboard.
horndude - September 26, 2009
Leach will go for it here on 4th..
cj43 - September 26, 2009

7Swords of Salat - September 26, 2009
Man. What a stop on 4th there..
cj43 - September 26, 2009
great stop...but should have kicked the FG. would have been up by 8
leach is a moron
7Swords of Salat - September 26, 2009
No kidding
Gotta kick that.
TheElusiveShadow - September 26, 2009
He doesn't think his defense can stop them..
cj43 - September 26, 2009
Well, he got lucky
Keenum had somebody else open and threw that one. Big mistake.
TheElusiveShadow - September 26, 2009
I have no problem with him going for it...
…but jeez what a terrible play call. His running backs have been running wild all night. Why not use them?

Muffin's boys are toasted
and an 8 point lead would be nice. Of course it will all be about Potts’ TD that wasn’t.
horndude - September 27, 2009
Even Tech fans at Double T Nation know that wasnt a score
He should have kicked it.
TheElusiveShadow - September 27, 2009
yep, I've been lurking over there too.
horndude - September 27, 2009
Did they leave Tech too much time left though?
They might be able to get in field goal range still.
cj43 - September 27, 2009

Charging the field after beating an unranked team? Really?
JohnsonUT - September 27, 2009
That's how they roll in Houston!
cj43 - September 27, 2009
I loved it!
although you can argue tech upsetting #1 texas deserved the fans storming the field, it was nice to see tech get a taste of what that feels like.
burrito - September 27, 2009
Shocker Nation takes it.
Doesn’t help us much. Won’t matter if we win ’em all.
Leach blew it, can’t wait to see how many apologists he still has.
horndude - September 27, 2009
Leach absolutely blew it
Poor clock management, poor decisions, poor play calling. He got away from the run in the second half too. Another choke job by Mike Leach on the road.
TheElusiveShadow - September 27, 2009
On the bright side it takes care of a potential tie-breaker in the South
seth78 - September 27, 2009
So much for that Tech blowout
seth78 - September 27, 2009
That is Leach's fault
Horrible coaching.
But bloody hell. Great game and awesome win for Houston.
jcbates - September 27, 2009
Houston Community College
is acting like they beat Florida, instead of an unranked team which now has, what, two wins in its last six tries?
adt2 - September 27, 2009 via mobile
Really?
A mid-major team that’s ranked for the first time in nearly twenty years has its second win over a BCS conference team this season and they shouldn’t be excited?
Not sure why it bothers you so much. They earned it.
gwh65 - September 27, 2009
I agree
Kudos for Houston.
I think that was a great fought game. If I had been a student there, I would have ran on the field too.
jcbates - September 27, 2009
Let 'em celebrate
I pulled my car in the garage and brought the couches in from the front yard.
Eat ’em up, coogs!
horndude - September 27, 2009
I think the fact that you have couches in your front yard speaks more about you than the need to bring them in does for the UH hans ;P

Trevor Walker
is a Civil Engineering student with me, and I’ve had a few classes with him the last couple of years. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met, and it was great to see him get in there as a Senior. What a cool feeling that must have been!
Prodigious Clout - September 27, 2009
I had him..
…for ME210 a couple years back. Seems like a nice kid. Also, I had classes w/ Clark Ford when he was a EE student. Cool guy who just got a scholarship (two tackles today on kick-off coverage). I love when these guys get PT.
