Week 3 Wrap

2010 Texas commits

Connor Wood, Second Baptist quarterback: Second Baptist picked up their second win of the season, defeating Houston Lutheran , 25-9. Wood completed 16 of 28 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 56 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in the victory. A much more efficient performance for Wood, who will probably play better as Second Baptist moves through their district schedule against other private schools.

Case McCoy, Graham quarterback: The Steers raced out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter and remained undefeated in beating Glen Rose, 21-10. McCoy helped the cause by completing nine of 23 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, while also scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run.

John Harris, Naaman Forest quarterback: A fourth-quarter rally including three touchdowns helped Naaman Forest roll past Lakeview Centennial, 34-14. Harris threw a 28-yard touchdown pass and completed two other passes in six attempts for 114 yards and a touchdown, while gaining 66 yards and scoring another touchdown on 14 carries.

Traylon Shead, Cayuga running back: Suffering from the ankle injury sustained last week, Shead carried the ball only 10 times for 67 yards and a 47-yard touchdown catch against an overmatched Price Carlisle squad as Cayuga won easily, 23-2. Coach Tommy Allison limited Shead's carries in an attempt to help return the star running back to full health.

Chris Jones, Daingerfield wide receiver: 2A No. 1 Daingerfield fell to 3A no.1 Gilmer, 43-20, for their first loss of the season, but Jones contributed with a strong day running and catching the football, taking four carries for 66 yards and a touchdown (24) as well as catching five passes for another touchdown (42) and 73 yards.

Darius Terrell, DeSoto wide receiver/tight end: DeSoto came out on the winning end of an offensive shootout with Flower Mount, 56-35, keyed by four first-half touchdowns by junior receiver David Porter, including one after recovering Darius Terrell's fumble after a 37-yard catch-and-run by the Texas commit. Terrell finished with seven catches on the day for 121 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Adrian White, DeSoto cornerback: White recorded eight tackles and recovered a fumble.

Bryant Jackson, Sulphur Springs cornerback/wide receiver: Sulphur Springs bludgeoned Longview Pine Tree, 45-7, with Jackson catching three passes for 47 yards and returning five punts a total of 81 yards.

Adrian Phillips, Garland jack-of-all-trades: Garland edged South Garland, 17-13, behind two late touchdowns, as Phillips contributed mainly on defense with 10 tackles, but also carried once for two yards and caught two passes for 21 yards.

Tevin Jackson, Garland linebacker: Jackson reportedly recorded "double-digit" tackles in Garland's victory.

Reggie Wilson, Haltom defensive end: Haltom suffered another loss this week, falling to North Crowley, 21-14, but Wilson had a monster game ($), recording 4.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, a nearly-intercepted shovel pass, a forced fumble, and four quarterback hurries.

2010 targets

Darius White, Fort Worth Dunbar wide receiver: Four Texas assistant coaches, including Major Applewhite, Oscar Giles, Bobby Kennedy, and Bruce Chambers, all made the drive up to Arlington to see Fort Worth Dunbar and Arlington Heights face off ($). White did not have an overly impressive game in the 34-29 loss, but did catch three passes for 57 yards and scored on a two-point conversion.

2011 targets

Marquis Jackson, Arlington Heights receiver: While the four Texas coaches were surely in Arlington to watch star 2010 receiver Darius White, they instead witnessed an impressive performance by the 6-1, 200-pound Arlington Heights receiver Jackson, who scored three touchdowns on the night on four catches totaling 168 yards. It's probably safe to say he's on the radar now.

Herschel Sims, Abilene running back: Sims had a big night in Abilene's 37-3 destruction of Burleson, carrying 14 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns, one covering 63 yards and the other 71 yards.
