Despite 14 Texas commits in the 2012 class participating in workouts this week preparing for the Under Armour game on Thursday night and the Army game that will take place on Saturday, no story has set the Longhorn Nation abuzz like the interest in JUCO quarterback Bo Wallace.
Since the news broke on Tuesday evening that Texas asked Wallace to come in for an official visit, which he will take on Saturday after visiting Baylor, there have been conflicting reports about whether or not Wallace has a Texas offer. At this point, it appears that he does not, but receiving one will merely be a formality upon his visit to Austin and sit-down with Mack Brown. The classic Texas procedure, in other words.
With that in mind, the next major question becomes where exactly the Longhorns stand with Wallace. Reports have Mississippi State pushing hard for a commitment in recent days and the sense is that the Bulldogs provide the major competition for Wallace. However, the Tennessee gunslinger whose given name is William Robert Wallace told Orangebloods on Tuesday that the Longhorns will be at the top of his list with an offer.
So when EMCC head coach Buddy Stephens told the Clarion-Ledger that he thinks Wallace's mind is made up, it ranks as quite a revelation. Stephens said that he didn't know what the decision would be, but the expectation is that Wallace will make an announcement soon after making his visit to Texas.

Stephens, who calls Wallace "Billy Bob," shared an amusing story about his quarterback's toughness:
One of the first or second practices we had (at EMCC), a linebacker comes in late and hit Bo. Bo didn't throw the ball, so he and Bo started having these words. Bo grabbed the linebacker by the facemask and started hitting him upside the head with the football. That's the kind of kid he is.
Not sure what exactly to make of that other than the fact that Wallace is smart enough not to try to bludgeon a defensive player about the head with his bare hand. That might be worth something, especially considering that Wallace is known for his gunslinger mentality that often results in him throwing into small windows, throws that often leave his coach ill at ease despite consistent success doing so at the junior college level.
In the end, what the Texas coaches tell Wallace about where they see him fitting in with the team could be a major factor in his final decision, despite the assertion from Stephens that Wallace has made up his mind. If Texas sells Wallace on being able to come in and at least compete for the starting job, Billy Bob could be a Longhorn by this time next week.

First!
We need this kid after seeing Connor last night and with Case being wishy-washy.
2th DK - January 6, 2012
We need him just so we can have a QB named Billy Bob Bo, besides Brewer showing his need for a redshirt. Hot Damn, go get him Mack !
MeatchickenHorn - January 6, 2012
need to settledown
On the Brewer talk. I am just amazed at people here.Myself and others have said all QBs need to shirt and have seen plenty disagree. You see him running and now he needs a redshirt. Like that performance was meaningful. Just amazing the mood swings on this board over QBs
codaxx - January 6, 2012 via mobile
I like Brewer BUT he needs to be groomed
We have been screwed since the GG experiment and we need to get our incoming QBs back to redshirting. Any notion that Brewer is the new savior as a freshman needs to stop. He can be a great player at Texas, but he will need to get in the traditional system of redshirting and after having his bell run repeatedly last night, I hope that he sees why this is to his own advantage. He needs the best chance to succeed, and Bo Wallace and Ash playing well are both to his own advantage.
Not bashing Brewer, but facing reality and he surely must know this.
Wrangler86 - January 6, 2012
just a lot
Of negativity over an exhibition game where the kid was running for his life. I just wanted to put it into its proper context
codaxx - January 6, 2012 via mobile
a pocket passer in a 4 day practice allstar game is toast
he never had a chance.
Wrangler86 - January 6, 2012
You shouldn't
be surprised by the mood swings.
greggym - January 7, 2012
Billy Bob Wallace?
Now that is a name.
LookinForIt - January 6, 2012
Thanks for the update ... great news!
What about the reports re: DGB being concerned about our QB’s, Ghost? Do you think this can help seal the deal?
Distributor of the Football - January 6, 2012
Long term
I don’t think OU or Arkansas have more proven quarterback situations than Texas. In fact, they don’t at all. Past 2012, assessing any of them requires projection and therefore falls into the realm of pure speculation, even if those opinions may be informed.
My take is that DGB is acknowledging that the Texas situation isn’t great and that he is concerned about it, but he basically needs to think about it some more and do some more research. I just don’t think that Wallace would seal the deal. It may help, but not to the extent that it would spark a commitment.
I think the underlying fact here is that DGB is playing things so close to the vest that the only thing that’s left is parsing every statement to the nth degree. At best, that isn’t going to be super valuable. In fact, it seems that DGB doesn’t really know what he’s going to do either.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - January 6, 2012
you still think we got a decent chance of getting DGB?
horns1025 - January 6, 2012 via mobile
I do
If we land Wallace it is proof that we are ON TOP of the QB situation.
Wrangler86 - January 6, 2012
Yeah,
but I think that anyone who wants to put a percentage on it is making nothing more than an educated guess.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - January 6, 2012
Thanks
Your points about thr OU and Ark QB situations is well-taken. I guess the question is whether the known long-term with Texas is better than the unknown elsewhere. I bet Mack will make a good argument here.
Distributor of the Football - January 7, 2012 via mobile
OU and Arkie's coaches have established histories of production at QB and WR
The same can’t be said for Texas at this point, much to my dismay.
That said, I completely agree that his playing things close is just resulting in some rather far-fetched, desperate attempts to interpret every little thing he says or does. Some of those things might have meaning, and many do not, and it’s anyone’s guess which is which. So you’re spot-on there, I think.
burntorangehorn - January 7, 2012
My feeling is - so what if Case is wishy washy?
He disobeyed a direct order to go into a game and that is enough for me to give him his walking papers. No big loss, in my opinion and there is no reason for UT to be hijacked by him OR his dad!
Snide Aside - January 6, 2012
+1
texascfo - January 6, 2012
you really believe that?
Is anyone stupid enough to not go into the game when ordered in the middle of a qb battle? I understand not liking case bc of his dad, his arm being weak. But not an incident that probably didn’t happen. And there has been no confirmation of.
Mclovin1035 - January 6, 2012 via mobile
Actually its been reported multiple times and by people I know close to the program. This is an old issue that has been pretty tightly verified.
BeeCaveHornFan - January 6, 2012 via mobile
I don't know about that.
Chip Brown has had sources that shot it down. I think there is reason to believe that it did happen, but I think there is also reason not to put it in the canon of absolute facts.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - January 6, 2012
Care to fill us in on your sources?
Because I’m officially questioning. It’s easy for anyone to say he has a source, but another to prove any reliability, credibility, or even actual existence of those sources.
burntorangehorn - January 7, 2012
People have been using this to bludgeon Case all year.
Sometimes I wonder what the kid ever did to any of you that makes some of you HATE him so much. Jesus Christ, he’s just a kid. Chill the hell out with the seething hatred for Case, it’s bordering on fanatical.
iamjackburton - January 6, 2012
He may have, or he might not have
Again, that’s one unconfirmed rumor, yet it’s repeated as fact for some weird reason
burntorangehorn - January 7, 2012
Should be a simple sell
“Billy Bob with you at the helm we could be BCS bound!” I don’t think any of the other suitors can say that.
SDG - January 6, 2012
Billy Bob Wallace has "Texas gunslinger" written all over it.
spinmonkey - January 6, 2012
Coach.
The coach was on Austin radio this morning and said he felt that it would come down to UT and MSU. No mention that “Billy Bob” had made a final decision.

OB reporting that WR Thomas Johnson has decommitted from Texas....
I freaking knew it was coming.
silky51 - January 6, 2012
sigh
silky51 - January 6, 2012
Hope Thomas Johnson report ends up false....
Of all the incoming WR’s, I was most looking forward to watching him play. From everything I have seen and read, I thought he was going to be an electric and exciting playmaker, sort of like DeSean Jackson.

it's not.....GOBR reporting on twitter that multiple sources confirming the news
Texas needs to respond quickly by offering Corey Coleman ASAP!

so mike davis and johnson possibly gone….. we better get dgb and mario edwards then

He is considering Oregon, Cal, and TCU…..Texas not even part of the conversation anymore….brutal.
silky51 - January 6, 2012
I have to think the Texas coaches put pressure on him about his visit to Oregon...
and the domino’s fell from there.

Mike Davis????
Did I miss something? Is he leaving too?
jwilson5ut - January 6, 2012
rumors that he might transfer

its only a Oregon visit. O wait, they have cool uni’s. Damn! Really though, I grew up in the Northwest and have been to Eugene many times. It’s cold and rainy in the winter and its NOT Austin..

Let him go if his heart is not with Texas
Better to find out now than in October that he does not have the Texas Fight in him. Not that I’m comparing their talent level, but we surely do not want a Marcus Dupree situation on our hands that he is physically at Texas but his heart is somewhere else. When the 4th quarter comes around and you are playing on fumes, more often than not, what pushes you to do more is the fox-hole mentality that you are playing for the guy next to you, not because you have a nuclear colored uniform or that your draft stock will go up with a certain team. If that is what is driving T.J., then frankly, I don’t want him to represent my university. I love it that we have so many guys that are “hard” commits that wear their burnt orange hearts on their sleeves. Those are the guys I’m thrilled about.
GOP Horn - January 6, 2012
WRs have been a source of utter frustration
I don’t know why Mike Davis would be mad that Ash kept bashing the ball into his hands and he still couldn’t catch it. I am so disappointed in our WRs that I only want to keep Goodwin and Shipley and let the rest run free. Ash stepped up as a true freshman with a less than stellar O Line and still Davis dropped passes. I really don’t care.
I want players that want to catch the ball and score TDs for Texas. Not guys that want to celebrate, not block, and not perform on game day.
I noticed both TJ and Cayle Jones watching the plays on O while they were still occuring and it pissed me off last night. Just because you didn’t get the catch, doesn’t mean your job is done. Learn to block for your fellow WR. You will get it back in return. They both quit on plays when the ball wasn’t to them. They both looked at the sideline as if the play was over while their teamate was fighting off the D. Very uncool.
Wrangler86 - January 6, 2012
Wallace mind may be made up, but that doesn't mean for MSU
Knowing he’ll get a scholarship offer when he gets here, he very well may already have his mind made…..for Texas. Even without having visited yet. He was quoted as saying that if Texas offered they’d go straight to the top of the list. Mullen and MSU still worry me, but I don’t take reports of his mind being made up as necessarily a bad thing.
I would love though for someone to be able to confirm that Wallace made his trip to Baylor today. If so, then we’ll know that Mullen wasn’t able to talk him out of taking his visits this weekend and committing to MSU.
Nunna Yo Bizness - January 6, 2012
The McCoys
Does anyone believe that it was Colt’s dad that kept him out of the MNC game against Bama rather a serious inability on his part to be able to throw?
Wrangler86 - January 6, 2012
i dont
if Colt had been able to play he would have been out there and his dad wouldnt have been able to do a damn thing to stop him
horns1025 - January 7, 2012
That's for sure.
It’s ludicrous to say that his Dad called that one. He’s a big boy and, by that time in his Texas career, he had a super-close relationship with the trainer and they made the decision together. I’m sure his Dad was there to lend some wisdom to the situation but Colt and/or the trainer ultimately makes that call. If there was any way Colt could have played, he would have.
robthecob - January 7, 2012
Bo Wallace,
Good luck man! You now have a seat at the table. It’s between you and Ash, and I don’t care who wins it. Just need a solid QB on the 40 acres…
Case – please transfer to a JUCO somewhere.
Free up a scholly…. thanks man!
chupita - January 6, 2012
You've now solidified it.
Case will start every game in 2012 … just to spite you. Ya never know …
robthecob - January 7, 2012
By the way, Mississippi State doesn't even throw the ball
I don’t know why a “gunslinger” would go there…
iamjackburton - January 6, 2012
Try checking out Mullen's development......
….of Nat’l Championship QBs Chris Leak and Cam Newton at Florida.
HornChamps - January 7, 2012
You're throwing me for a loop here, HornChamps
While Mullen didn’t really develop Newton at all, I fully agree that he has an established history of developing passers. Mullen has tutored a lot of top passers and/or NFL draft picks, including Josh Harris at BGSU, Alex Smith (#1-overall pick, of course) at Utah, and then Leak and Tebow at Florida. BTW, UF won the BCS championship on the shoulders of the Mullen-coached offense at UF in two of the three years he was there, and Tebow (wrongfully) won the Heisman the other year.
burntorangehorn - January 7, 2012
Given the loopiness of your posts to this board....
….I would say you were “thrown for a loop” long, long ago.
Given the fact that Dan Mullen coached at Florida from 2005 thru ‘08 and Cam Newton was a member of Florida’s 2007 recruiting class, I’ll assume you’d like to now retract your epic gaffe.
After being caught with a stolen notebook computer and attempting to hide the theft by throwing the computer out his dorm window, Cam Newton chose (was led) to transfer to Blinn C.C. in Brenham. He then entered Auburn’s 2010 recruiting class.
As for the other stuff. Give it up now. I know more about Urban Meyer’s history and the history of his players than you’ll ever hope to put to memory.
HornChamps - January 7, 2012
Of course you couldn't resist the loop quip
But then, you’re borderline insane, what with your never-ending praise for Muschamp, and ever-present criticism of Mack.
I’m fully aware that Cameron Newton was part of that class, but Newton didn’t really develop there. He fell to third on the depth chart behind the schlub John Brantley, and then was kicked off the team. Fact, kiddo. Go back to reading your WSJ now.
burntorangehorn - January 7, 2012
The actual facts would be....
….. that Cam Newton’s first choice coming out of Blinn was Dan Mullen and his MissState program. Didn’t you know? Only when daddy’s bid for cash did MSU disappear into the night. The reason was the quality of Mullen’s coaching while Cam Newton was at Florida. Seems you have swung and missed…..yet again.
HornChamps - January 9, 2012
Those aren't facts
Those are your guesses. You can call something a swing and a miss if you want, but it doesn’t matter when you’re so obviously not behind home plate.
Newton had fallen to third on the depth chart behind Brantley. You said Mullen developed Newton, when Newton was really just floundering there as a player and person.
burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
How do you know they aren't facts?
How do you know that HornChamps does not have first-hand knowledge? Supposition on your part?
Paleface Horn - January 9, 2012
Actually they are the facts.
HornChamps - January 27, 2012
Bo Wallace
So apparently he’s not visiting anymore…. This sucks. I really wanted Bo Wallace.
BJL3788 - January 7, 2012
Thanks Mack for dicking around and waiting until the last minute on a transfer
This is being reported on Orangebloods, so sounds like it’s accurate. If Mack had just admitted we needed help in December and gone after one of these transfers we probably could have gotten him on the spot. Instead Mack dicked around and waited. If Ash goes down next year we’re f****ed and may be even with Ash if he doesn’t make vast improvements. Oh, and of course we’ve lost Thomas Johnson, maybe Mike Davis, and probably DGB now as well. Way to close on the recruiting Mack.
Nunna Yo Bizness - January 7, 2012
what a bad, bad night for the Horns
puke!
silky51 - January 7, 2012
bad 2 nights...
shitty UA game with our future stars and now we get shuned for an SEC Junior College
longhorn35 - January 7, 2012
Yeah, Mack absolutely sucks as a recruiter.
Doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing in that area. You are so right!
robthecob - January 7, 2012
Obviously, Harsin never got the memo.....
…… about all recruits coming to kiss the ring, prior to getting the “offer.”
“…..there have been conflicting reports about whether or not Wallace has a Texas offer. At this point, it appears that he does not, but receiving one will merely be a formality upon his visit to Austin and sit-down with Mack Brown.”
HornChamps - January 7, 2012
Jacob Karam
if it is true that Wallace is now “out of the picture”,what about Karam? Has he committed any place? He seems to be the kid that was recruited more heavily anyway, so somebody thought he was hot stuff at schools that throw the ball.
and is it confirmed that Wallace is committed someplace else and not coming to Austin today?
Longhorn723 - January 7, 2012
No, no, no
If we were going to take another QB, it would have been Wallace. He was turn-key. There’s no telling why we pulled his offer, although speculation is that we pulled it because Case or Brewer threw a fit.
