Update 9:40 a.m. - Per multiple reports on Twitter, LSU commit Torshiro Davis will make his decision at 10:30 am CST and it seems that Texas still has a chance. Also, A&M signee Matt Davis, a quarterback from Houston and one of the leaders of the so-called AggSwagg movement, put Texas on blast on Twitter today.

First, let's congratulate all of the 2012 Texas Longhorn commitments as they gather their pens to ink their LOI's today. This is shaping up to be arguably one of the best overall rated Texas classes in almost a decade.
Note to recruits: The next several months, and your first season or two, are known as probation period. Not a ton of expectations but should you choose to play out of your mind, rest assured internet heathens will work to make you heroes. However, not play to potential and you risk the scathing scorn of a fickle fan base played out on the www for all to see. I apologize in advance grown men and women (mostly the former) act this way but that is just the way it works.
Second, move over GBR, BLT, and GHG90. While we appreciate the untold volume of recruitnik updates you've bestowed upon us (emphasis on volume of appreciation), we're a little sick and tired of your play it straight drivel (soft ankles and supple hips...is that really necessary?). It's now time for the crazy, whacked out, unreasonable Longhorn fan to give it a go at the wheel.
This was supposed to be a DGB lottery open thread but it appears Texas was told late yesterday to move along. Coach Wyatt is to be congratulated for his tireless efforts in working to land the once-in-a-decade potential talent. However, DGB was considered a cherry on top for the 2012 class (although I'm sure we'll debate the what if to death over the coming seasons). Cherries are usually eaten well after the meat and potatoes portion of the meal. And yes, Longhorn fan, we've got the staples well dished up in this class.
We are already at 6 enrolled and 21 verbals going into the day with one firm card left in hand and maybe one in the hole depending on if the Howell transfer report yesterday is firm. At this time, there are no reports of any late flips or gets for the Longhorns but stranger things have happened.
Regardless, a big salute is in order to the Longhorn staff who worked tremendously hard in sewing up another top 5 rated class. They've been working tirelessly for weeks to secure the talent necessary to inch are way back to the top of the heap. I tip my cap to these gentlemen. It says a lot about the program especially given the one game over .500 performance the last two seasons thanks to Cal mailing it in. I guess the LHN is worth something afterall.

Our plan is to update this post throughout the day with takes on inbound LOI's and the like. But get in early as Coach Brown is a morning person and has emphasized to all prospects the importance of sending in their faxed commitments by 10:00 a.m. (Seriously, people still use a fax machine?).
We'll have a preview of Coach Brown's 3:30 p.m. press conference later today so please stay tuned for that.

It seems like we have an OOS spurn us almost every year on signing day.The TE from Washington,Westerman,Perriloux and now DGB.
I guess it’s all in how you look at it.It’s a compliment to our program that the top players in the nation consider us but then we get that stab in the heart when they decide to stay home.
There is tons of talent in this class.If our coaches are who we think they are they can coach em up to the BCS level.

The changes in philosophy have been long needed and obvious with this class. Taking more time to evaluate, going harder after OOS players, reaching out to selected juco players at positions of need, not settling for quick commitments all indicate a staff willing to go the extra mile.

The best rated TE in the state (Griffin Gilbert) is a spread TE weighing in at about 215. I think Texas is more interested in blocking first TEs that can get up the seam every now and then. Not a good year for TEs in state, IMO.

Pitt had messed up, and didn’t have enough scholarships for everyone who signed. They got a late commitment from Khem Birch. Maybe someone else as well, I am not quite sure. Anyway, there weren’t enough scholarships to go around, and Bond was the odd man out.
Birch just announced his transfer to UNLV.

My takeaway was that, if the athlete hasn’t enrolled and become a student, he’s not a member of the football team and there is no commitment. But that was just the context…I don’t know the rules. I understand that this signing period (for football) actually goes from today unitl April 1st?

Matt Davis, one of the nation’s top dual-threat quarterbacks, should fit in well at Texas A&M, judging by his dislike of Texas.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound quarterback blasted the Longhorns on his Twitter account, @That_DavisGuy.
“I hope one day these kids realize that if you play receiver and Texas ‘wants’ you, they’re gonna sign you and stash you for 4 years,” Davis tweeted, following the news that former Texas A&M commit Bralon Addison had signed with Oregon.
Davis went on to suggest that the school only recruits wide receivers to keep them away from rival schools.
“They have a pre-meditated roster, if you’re not on it, oh well have fun on 6th street cause that’s as far as you’ll go,” he tweeted.
He specifically called out Longhorns safety Blake Gideon.
“And again, EVERYTHING at Texas is political. It had to be because Blake Gideon should of NEVER touched the field! Lol. He’s Terrible,” Davis tweeted.
The opportunity to play against Texas was one of the big reasons that Davis chose to sign with Texas A&M.
“It’s not necessarily I don’t like them. I’m not saying I do. But I want to play them. I’ve always wanted to play them,” Davis told MaxPreps in the fall.

They were really strapped for defensive recruits. Depending on whether you count some athletes (Daniel Brooks, Devin Woods, and Zach Sanchez) as offense or defense, they had just four defensive guys (Brooks and Woods could play WR or DB), but have added two definite defensive recruits and an extra athlete (Sanchez from Killeen might play safety), giving them up to nine on defense. Note that two are juco guys.
Given that Striker is the only defensive Rivals gave more than three stars (Woods is listed as a four-star WR there), are rated higher than three stars on Rivals (Woods is considered a four-star safety and juco Kasseim Everett a four-star CB on Scout) , it still looks like a really, really lean defensive class for them.

Texas is second on Rivals (FSU #6) and first on Scout (FSU #15). The only one that’s close is 247, which has Texas second and FSU third. What is puzzling is why it’s so close, based on the breakdown:

we have only two WR’s, a position I think we really need some help in. Losing Johnson and DBG kind of shot that position. Don’t get me wrong. The two we have are very good, but we could have used a couple of more. I’m willing to bet a couple of the Ath’s will go offense rather than D.
