Rivals just put out their top 100, I thought people might like to have a look.

Our man, Mr. Raulerson checks in at 51, but there will be plenty of movement, and I see quite a few Longhorn targets on their. Any OOSers on this list we should throw our hat in on? I personally would like to get my hat in on Derrick Griffin, although there are some grade issues there. I need four more words for this to be legitimate.

Damn Harris is ranked low
STLaw - February 9, 2012
#39
STLaw - February 9, 2012
He's rated a 6.0 on Rivals
That’s not bad at all. Rankings are fluid at this point, and while I’m not sure where Harris should be relative to the other guys at 6.0, but that rating means he’s a guy they think could easily add a fifth star his senior season.

Some services
Are afraid he’ll eventually be an OLB. Watching his film, I don’t really know why. I think he’s a solid athlete for a safety.

The QB...
Swoopes…hes got good genes, but I really do worry about the 2A level of competition. If he comes to the 40 acres, I hope we don’t start calling him VY2 and stuff because there is NO chance the kid lives up to a VY comparison
ACnDaHorns - February 9, 2012
I was surprised to see that he was ranked so high on this list...
because he plays for a 2A
LonghorninRaiderland - February 9, 2012
steve edmond was from a 2a school!!
not every good player in this state has to play 5A ball.
spakastu - February 17, 2012
let us all...
go back and look at what rivals ranked many of our recruits through the years…they really are just throwing darts at the board…Colt was a 3star, Vince was a 5…Garrett Gilbert was a…well you get the point
ACnDaHorns - February 9, 2012
Gideon was a 2
TowerPower - February 9, 2012
As he should have been.
Sorry, that was mean, I know it.
40A - February 9, 2012
still can't let it go can u?
TowerPower - February 9, 2012
Sadly, no.
Maybe soon.
40A - February 10, 2012
They're not throwing darts
Recruiting isn’t really a science, let alone an exact one. Maybe the hypothesis is sound, but when tested, it proves untrue. That’s just how it goes. But these guys are professionals, and aren’t just pulling names out of the air and assigning random ratings to them. That’s absurd.

Colt was ranked exactly where he should have been
Recruiting rankings aren’t generally based on production in high school, they’re based on physical gifts. Colt didn’t/doesn’t possess those gifts that allow you to stand out amongst thousands of other high school players with similar stats. Texas obviously agreed with Rivals, which is why they took Colt as a secondary QB to Ryan.
GoHornsGo90 - February 11, 2012
What Ryan was that?
I don’t remember a Ryan in that class or among the targets, but I really don’t rememember what other QB’s UT reportedly targeted that class, so I may have missed this. Who was Ryan?
What’s insane, and that I hadn’t realized, was that Colt was the first QB to sign his LOI with Texas since Vince Young. Equally crazy is that Colt was the #15-rated pro-style QB recruit in the nation per Rivals, but not only did he out-perform all 27 of the others in that ranking, but I believe he was also one of only four drafted (Mark Sanchez – 1st, Jonathan Crompton – 5th, Bill Stull – 7th). That was one disappointing QB class.
burntorangehorn - February 12, 2012
Apologies if it was a rhetorical/sarcastic question, but Perrilloux
That is nuts about Colt being the first QB since Vince. I remember how people were freaking out about our QB woes for those years. We didn’t get Perrilloux, so we were gonna get Stafford. We didn’t get Stafford, so we were gonna get Mallett. Painful cycle.
GoHornsGo90 - February 12, 2012
Yeah, that was looking dire
Oh, no, it wasn’t sarcastic. Wow, can’t believe I had successfully blocked it from my mind.
There seems to be at least one QB every class now, which is a good cycle, so now the trick is to hit big on one or more of them.

So Alabama.....
…… already has commitments from 2 of the Top-20.
HornChamps - February 9, 2012
Big leader
For the number one player in the country as well.
GoHornsGo90 - February 11, 2012

Saban has a fucking dynasty going on over there
ACnDaHorns - February 10, 2012
Things will change
They always do.
SpiritOfTheFedora - February 10, 2012
Is the Swoopes QB by chance related to Sherryl Swoopes the basketball player?
goingforthecorner - February 12, 2012
yes
ACnDaHorns - February 12, 2012
Nephew
I believe
GoHornsGo90 - February 12, 2012
Auntie Sherryl
TowerPower - February 13, 2012
I don't like...
that his 2A (!!!) team went 7-4 and lost in the FIRST round of the playoffs…that isn’t exactly all his fault, but at the 2A level, one would think he would just take over games. Does this worry anyone else? He went 7-5 last year
ACnDaHorns - February 14, 2012
Usually a mega-talented, dual-threat QB should be able to will his team further than the first round in 2A, right?
I get what you’re saying. I mean, there was definitely a supporting cast with Vince when he was leading the team to consecutive Rose Bowl wins, and sometimes that cast did pick up when VY was faltering a little, but VY also showed that he could will his team to win most of the time. That’s an “it” factor that should be even more evident at the 2A level, which is why it’s a head-scratcher that Swoopes’ team was bounced so early.
burntorangehorn - February 14, 2012
yep...
how awful is the rest of his team? i mean come on! you have a 5 star qb that can run wild and you go 7-5? that coach should be fired on principal alone
