Blah, these concept designs suck, the only tolerable one is the orange helmet since its just a tweak to the original. Anyway here's the link to the UT Co-Op's facebook page who introduced a few possibilities from the new UT Nike Pro Combat line on their wall today.
So without further ado...
The Horn with Numbers
and the Horn without Numbers
The Cartoon Bevo Helmet
The Tacky Motorcycle Style Helmet
And finally...
The Color Inverted Classic
But I would rather leave our uniforms/helmets alone. Don't Mess with a classic.

I know right?
I get that some schools use the edgy uniforms as a recruiting tool but that’s typically not any of the major powers…
TowerPower - February 8, 2012
The 2nd-to-last really isn't all that bad for 1 game a decade ...
… but it’s pointless to screw around w/ perfection. Sorry, Nike. Orange ’Horns-on-white is classic beauty.
robthecob - February 9, 2012
I agree...
It close enough to the classic style for most people to handle it for 1 game, I’m just scared what they’d do to the uniforms…
TowerPower - February 9, 2012
gwh65 - February 9, 2012
That would take some getting used to
But it’s actually a decent look. IMO

Not nearly enough nope's there
that picture requires that we hire a man to keep muttering “nope nope nope nope nope” incessantly until all of us are peacefully in our graves.

WHY FOZZY WHY
pleaseplaykindle - February 9, 2012
That would be MB1.
40A - February 10, 2012
I like it
I always like the charcoal gray with the burnt orange. Looks cool to me.
Wrangler86 - February 10, 2012
I don't mind these too much.
LonghorninRaiderland - February 10, 2012
Point stands
pleaseplaykindle - February 10, 2012
These helmets look like crap
We are going back to old school power football…the uniforms should stay old school.
STLaw - February 9, 2012
They should wear any helmet they want...
as long as its white with the orange logo.
VegasLonghorn - February 9, 2012
Exactly
Do not change helmets or unis – Texas is known for its classic uniforms.
texascfo - February 9, 2012
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Y’all dogging on the helmet really need to step off the ledge. Seriously. These helmets are freakin’ awesome.
The designs, however, suck balls (I like Schutt helmets).
GoHorns - February 9, 2012
Oh, and WAY off topic
But what’s up with the fanposts section being cut off now? If there are three posts that are rec’d to the top, not a single one is showing for me. It’s covered up by Wescot’s twitter feed. I definitely don’t like that. One of the greatest things about this site is the user generated content.
GoHorns - February 9, 2012
I'm getting the same thing, on two different operating systems
BrooklynHorn - February 9, 2012
I agree
I liked the old style
TowerPower - February 9, 2012
Yeah, this just happened today, I think
Maybe yesterday, but I wasn’t on much yesterday. GOBR’s twitter feed was there and not interfering before, so I don’t think that’s what’s causing it.
burntorangehorn - February 9, 2012
and its back up!

Just a glitch in the system.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - February 9, 2012
Sorry to derail the thread
Thanks for addressing it!

Color invert helmet is the only tolerable one...
The rest just suck.

Truth
TXinDC - February 10, 2012
The happy little longhorn emblem is so bad it's actually funny.
This belongs on the womens Hai Lai team!
Snide Aside - February 9, 2012
If you just glance it....
it looks like a set of eyeballs wearing a hat
Darth Bevo - February 9, 2012
Agreed
that’s the only one I can’t see even brain-washed 17-year-olds liking. What was Nike thinking?
BrooklynHorn - February 9, 2012
I'm not sure these are legit
Notice the “Charles Sollars Concept” in each image. A quick google search links Charles Sollars to Fourteen85 Photography and a Flickr stream.
“Downloaded the 30 day trial of Photoshop CS5 and this is what I came up with”
gwh65 - February 9, 2012
These designs weren't from Nike
Although there is some talk that Nike does have at least a prototype in the works.
Wescott Eberts (GoBR) - February 9, 2012
The Longhorns are the most recognized brand in college sports
We don’t need these flashy designs to feel relevant…. we’re not Oregon.
Darth Bevo - February 9, 2012
Or Georgia
Snide Aside - February 9, 2012
Agree
And we do not need a burnt orange field either!
texascfo - February 9, 2012
Uniformly terrible
White helmet. Burn orange longhorn logo. Numbers on the back.
Why is this complicated?
I’m not a fan.
windycityhorn - February 9, 2012
When did we get
a NASCAR team?
The Mosa Lisa doesn’t need to be “punched up”
JUST DON’T DO IT.
ole tnhorn - February 9, 2012
inverted color helmet
with same uniforms would be sick
MJY6087 - February 9, 2012
Yeah, would.be interesting.
robthecob - February 11, 2012 via mobile
I'm not a traditionalist
Not by any means, but I do understand the devotion our fanbase has to our current uniforms. Hell, our stormtrooper uni’s are quite possibly the best in college football.
But let me say this: Texas is not Oregon, and will never be. If Texas does something new, I’m sure it will be for one game to get the fans and players excited. Our classics are classics for a reason. We will not abandon them.
Personally, I like the black and white uniforms (for ONE game only!)
kriess - February 9, 2012
Man I Nike
Not everything needs to be flashy and slick. There is nothing wrong with classic. There is a reason that Texas, OU, Bama, Ohio State and even those things near Bryan have some of the better uniforms, and that is because no one touches them. Theres also a reason that Boise and Oregon often look lick crap…
Silentjay - February 10, 2012
Hate* Nike
Silentjay - February 10, 2012
The only acceptable one game change, in my opinion,
would be to have the team wear the black and orange quarterback practice jerseys, while leaving the helmet and pants the same classic white.
TxHorns247 - February 10, 2012
I really don't see why this is a big deal.
In no way do uni’s like this ever replace our classics. Same with the helmets. It’s somethng that’s fun for the kids and can be used sparingly.
40A - February 10, 2012
Its also a recruitng tool...as dumb as that sounds
so I could stomach it for one game a year, preferably not against OU or on Thanksgiving…
TowerPower - February 10, 2012
Exactly.
The kids like that stuff. It’s cool to them. That’s fine with me, it’s not like our old stuff would be threatened.
And I agree, let em out during an OOC game or something, could be fun.
40A - February 10, 2012
Bollocks.
zamm - February 10, 2012
Horrible
The cartoon helmet looks just like Tech. We are not Tech.
EddieTheAlbinoSquirrel - February 10, 2012
I have an old whiskey decanter of the cartoon Bevo
It is from the 60s. My friend had two of each from the SWC teams and gave me the Bevo. I gave it to my 5 year old nephew, and hardly would go for that on a helmet.
But, I think a lot of folks are naive on here if you don’t think we should continue to update our unis. Not go all Terps and Ducks, but keep it modern. I like the burnt orange helmet and one horn wtih MB1 pic.
Wrangler86 - February 10, 2012
I agree.
Our classics will NEVER go away, everybody should know that. It would be kinda fun to see a new uni every now and then.
40A - February 10, 2012
Coach said it best
Check my longtime signature line below…
Let me also take this opportunity to state my adversity to the incidious addition of black into our hallowed burnt orange and white uniforms.
ClassofEarl - February 10, 2012
Love it. +1
pleaseplaykindle - February 10, 2012
Well the QBs wear black unis during practices and in the spring game,
so the black has been there.
Now while Mr. Royal is correct, these boys put in plenty of hard work, that’s not the issue here.
40A - February 10, 2012
I duno about this
if I were 18 again I just might like that for a road uni.
It might really confuse Okie State.
Oregon is pulling in the recuits with thier hideous unis.
TCB Orange Dino - February 10, 2012
The Joneses are certainly a classic breed
But it doesn’t mean you don’t show off your style occassionally. Rolex and Rolls Royce update their styles periodically.
I’d really like to wow it up a game or two and you know what it means to the school…..Money, money, money.
Wrangler86 - February 10, 2012
I'm not a fan of these, but I'll tell you what
paint those suckers dept of correction orange, put a sticker of a Chippendale’s dude wearing chaps with a Pistol Pete tattoo, call up T Boone and you could probably sell 85 or so for $5,000 a pop. $250 would be for the helmet and the rest would go towards the eye surgery for the guy who painted them and got safety cone orange blindness :)
soonerspeak - February 10, 2012
hasn't this already happened?
divinebovine - February 12, 2012
This is an interesting concept, but not completely sold. I am a traditionalist when in comes to Texas sports though.
LonghorninRaiderland - February 10, 2012
Cartoon Bevo
I really can’t get behind anything with the cartoon bevo on it. And those helmets are just awful

pleaseplaykindle - February 10, 2012
I've seen this picture before
And it makes me wonder if it is pure CGI or if it is based on an actual picture of a player. If this is an actual player, from the knee down he has got to be one of the smallest football players ever. His wrists are bigger than his ankles. Heck, his wrists are almost bigger than his knees! His ankles look like toothpicks. Maybe it’s just some funky camera work throwing me off, but the proportions strike me as odd.
Andrew Wiggin - February 10, 2012
Over/Under 5 downs before he snaps his ankle
Silentjay - February 10, 2012
I take the under
Andrew Wiggin - February 13, 2012
he's an 18 year old male.
of course his wrists are larger.
divinebovine - February 12, 2012
I will enroll in Texas A&M University if this happens for even one game.
bevoluble - February 10, 2012
Leave the helmets alone.
But I could get on-board with wearing burnt orange pants for a home game now and then.
adt2 - February 12, 2012
You'll reap the fruit of your selfish ways! You gonna lose all your fancy foosball games!
No..seriously, I like the shiny burnt orange uniforms for one game a year or every other year. You can have tradition w/ a touch of modernism w/o disrespecting it. Which of course would occur if we went w/ the cartoon Bevo on the side!
Hook ’em!
Robertpz - February 12, 2012
What I think we should pay attention to now
is that this world of high school and college football revolves around Swag…..now, I love the classic look at much as anyone else, but getting to wear something like this one game a year would add a ton of sway votes in our favor. I really dont think anyone is going to be able to change the uniform for the whole season, but one game would be good.
future_longhorn_dad - February 12, 2012
No
Let me follow that with Hell No. These helmets do NOT belong at DKR. EVER. Not for one game. Not for one second. If ain’t broken..don’t fix it.
OnMySignal - February 12, 2012 via mobile
You bring me some more pictures of those Longhorn helmet designs,
maybe I’ll take ‘em off your hands. But I never said you can have the job. Meat. I’ll send you a nice box of Christmas meat. It’s the best I can do – now get out of here kid.
spinmonkey - February 13, 2012
Some people are so slow
Is everyone going to fall for the fake alternate uniforms every off-season?
CMDR - February 13, 2012
I dont know if they are fake or not..
but I really love the traditional look. I forget where, but I heard it best when someone said the Texas look is like the Tuxedo of the football uniforms. Its just a great, timeless look that could never be replicated. Texas is also not a team like Maryland or Oregon that needs to have fancy jerseys to attract more recognition and recruits.
All that being said, I do think that orange helmet is pretty cool looking and I could be talked into seeing that once or twice a year.
Brkroger - February 13, 2012
I love the traditional look as well...
But, there is a reason that Oregon and Oklahoma State decided to amp up their uniform arsenal. The product they are selling to is an 18 year old who probably likes new, modern looks as opposed to Alabama’s, Penn State’s and Texas’ traditional gear. Times evolve and Nike has a place at the table. Prefer it burnt orange and white? That is fine, but we better have an option that is edgy and going to attract top prospects on a national level.
Oklahoma State is an interesting example. Gundy clearly gets out recruited by Stoops and Mack, but he and his staff have developed the best talent over the past two to three years as as whole. Now, he has the matte finish helmets with gray, black and their vibrant orange to add into his arsenal. Don’t let the pride of “We are Texas” cloud the judgment here. Young kids are the market…not graduates with kids.
Mulliganville - February 14, 2012
Huh?
Followed by:
What does your second statement have to do with the first? You even said yourself that the product of OSUs success is in the development of their players and that they’re not as successful recruiting. No, flashy uniforms have not proven to recruit players at all. Oregon recruits with money and facilities. OSU also has gotten better because of their facilities. I’ve followed recruiting for quite a while and I’ve yet to hear a single athlete say: “I chose _______ because their jerseys are cool/awesome/off the chain/(insert colloquialism here)”
GoHorns - February 14, 2012
While no players say they chose Oregon solely for the uniforms...
You’re pretty naive to think it has no impact…
TowerPower - February 14, 2012
It is part of the vibe.
I would agree with Tower Power and take it one step further: no player will say I am not going to _ because they are boring. They do get coached up as to what to say and what not to say. Oregon has Autzen, a rabid fan base, and beautiful scenery of Eugene to compliment their program. Stillwater has none of that…but they do have T Boone and their facilities are second to none these days. They also have a coach who parents and kids alike adore. If Mack is the CEO, Gundy is the Division Manager. What I am saying is it takes the development of the package in a day where kids can point and click and see the inside of facilities of any school they desire. The uniform is becoming part of the attraction.
Mulliganville - February 15, 2012
One step further...
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/the_bonus/12/28/uniforms/index.html
Mulliganville - February 15, 2012
Tell Nike
To take those helments and shove them.
Texas77 - February 14, 2012
Do you think Nike is actually "leaking" all this
as a marketing ploy to try to get Texas to bite on new unis?
Wrangler86 - February 14, 2012
If you do not think uniforms attract kids, think again...
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/the_bonus/12/28/uniforms/index.html
Mulliganville - February 15, 2012
WOW
TowerPower - February 15, 2012
I was surprised by that quote as well...
CFB is evolving and when teams like Oregon, Pokes, Stanford, Boise St. (they are the real deal), TCU, etc. begin attracting recruits based on uni options, why not parlay the panache of Texas and take advantage? I really hope we are not hard headed here.
Mulliganville - February 15, 2012
Ugly, ugly, ugly
What are we, Oregon? Or Maryland?
iamjackburton - February 16, 2012
Unlike some other Nike schools
Texas has full control over what changes are made to uniforms. I believe Deloss is on record saying that any changes to the uniform aesthetic will be minimal.
orangeblood1 - February 19, 2012
No to any of those changes.
Absolutely not.
